So CS was asking for more money than what businesses were willing to pay? Who would've thunk it B59?!! And to think that CS got on here (Demonland) one day and made the comment "I'm glad some of you aren't negotiating for the Club". Are you still glad Cam? Looks like I knew a lot more about what our brand was worth than you, and the reported figures that the companies were happy to invest, I would've had them signed a long time ago.

Slightly off-topic, but thought I'd give Stuie another project to work on. Out of all the 18 club theme songs in teh AFL, "It's A Grand Old Flag" is the only club theme song that has no mention of the town/suburb of the team, nor its actual nickname. It's not until you get to the second verse that the word "Demons" is mentioned. So Stuie, can you please record a new version ensuring our "name" is mentioned. Cheers.

B: Garland Frawley <<insert small back>> HB: Grimes McDonald Terlich C: Blease Sylvia Trengove HF: Howe Dawes Watts F: Hogan Clark <<insert small forward>> R: <<NFI>> N Jones Viney I: Toumpas M Jones Kent S: * Providing he continues to work on playing both ways, Blease will be perfect on the wing. * Sylvia should start in the guts. * I have no idea about rucks - they all offer "something", but is that enough? * We need a small forward and a small defender. I still have hopes for Jetta to play the small defender. Whoever these 2 positions are, they need to be able to rotate through the midfield. * Sub could be a number of players, such as Evans, Taggert (hopefully), Clisby, etc. Again, needs to be a midfielder. I have also bolded the players that didn't play on the weekend. (Nb. Dawes got an appearance fee but was clearly underdone).

Has had a chance to make a physial impact on the game twice in a row now, and both times early in the first quarter (vs Cloke and Vs whoever that bloke was on Saturday). You hit a person running back with the flight hard, you make them hurt, do it early in the game and it sends an element of doubt through the opposition. P!ssed off that no-one jumped in with Dawes at half time too. When one of your leaders is having "words", you just jump in and help, then ask questions in the room. He's not going to do it for no reason, so there's obviously something that they needed to stand up for.

I'd imagine Nathan Jones would be in the Top 100, but I can't for the life of me think of anyone else that would be in double figures.

I am in no doubt that this is the last chance for the MFC. The AFL are putting all the right people in the right places to ensure we succeed. The only thing they don't have full control over is the attitudes and the mindset of the players. If in 3 years time, or whenever it is that the new TV rights are up, and given the assistance/direction that the AFL are offering/providing, and the players are still playing the way they are and have been, then it will be shut up shop time. The best part about the AFL being involved is that they will assist with funds, and ensuring we get the right people. The bad thing about the AFL being involved is that there is no doubt a time limit, and if we haven't shown significant improvement by then, we will be known as Melbourne North.

I'm quite sure if Roos were to accept the job he would be 100% in it. At the moment, I would want to see or be informed about the changes that will be made to the club before I decide if I am going to give 100% or not, so I can't question where Roos' thoughts/feelings are at. They need to get it right behind the scenes before they will get the right coach. I have never really wanted Roos to coach Melbourne, not sure why, just thought he was cocky rather than confident. The more I've watched/read, the more I am liking his attitude. If the MFC really want him, and let's face it, he's arguably the best candidate, he will be ensuring us our FD/Club are set up in the best possible way to ensure success.

One would presume that Tom Couch is feeling his short career at AFL level is coming to a close.
-
He didn't "click" with the coach because he didn't do what he was told. Obviously you are still at school Stuie, or you are unemployed, because if you were working, you would understand that if you did that to any boss you would get the arse.

You have taken Deeko's post (which was a reply to mine) totally the wrong way, and again have made yourself look like a fool. Read the entire "conversation" between Deeko and I, he had heard a similar comment about Neeld in the coaches box (neither of us were having a shot at Neeld). Our discussion was more about the relationship between Neeld and Craig, which Craig mentioned in his presser yesterday. As you often recommend to others, if you don't like what someone posts, then simply don't read it. It would be even better if you didn't feel the need to comment on everything too.

Dpositive, we will be headhunting our coach between now and the end of the season. I'd imagine we already have a shortlist (Roos, Clarkson, Eade, Williams and Worsfold), we will speak to them individually, show them what we are doing behind the scenes, find out what they want, will have a couple of meetings, finalise our order of preference, get Vlad to approve, then target them one by one until we get "our man". If we get to the bottom of our shortlist and are still coachless, then we open it up to the world. This will be a week or so after the Grand Final. The MFC/PJ/AFL will know very soon, if they don't already (which is entirely possible), who it is that they want to coach. They are not going to frig around putting an ad on seek.com to see who else is "out there". I don't think it's that difficult to understand that the above is the current situation we are in at the moment. Rightly or wrongly it won't happen any other way.

Expand on this please Stuie. My point was that Beamer played his own game plan, thinking that he knew what was best, rather than following the coach's instructions. It wasn't and it cost him his place on our list. Yet Tonatopia is saying that he isn't the silly one.

The only thing that has stopped me from ruling Craig out of the top job on a permanent basis is just what his involvement with Neeld was like. How much input did he have? How much did Neeld listen and take it on board? How much did Neeld value what Craig used to say to him? I recall a comment made by Neeld to an assistant, something like "you give me the stats, and leave the f***ing coaching to me" or similar (can't remember exactly what it was in regards). I think you can see from the Essendon set-up that Hird relies on Thompson for educated advice. I don't get the feeling from watching Neeld and Craig, but that's obviously not based on anything other than my view (with no evidence to support it!). The proof will absolutely come out over the next 11 weeks. I don't think we will beat St Kilda - imagine that press if the players managed to "find" something for this game that they haven't been able to "find" for Neeld in the past 18 months. They wouldn't be that stupid to show obvious signs of giving 100% for the next 3 months when there were obvious signs (according to the coach and some players) that they hadn't been putting in 100% so far. I'm expecting us to lose to the Saints, but probably win 2 or 3 for the rest of the year, and the floggings to be kept to a minimum. We will then hear some players say that the external pressure relief has helped, and that Craig has just freshened them up a bit (ie changing training times, etc). For many reasons, I, like most "potential" coaches (and no doubt a number of people on here) will be watching the next 11 weeks with great interest, as I feel it will tell us a lot about our players.

In 5 years there is no certainty that the Hawks won't be where we are now (ok, perhaps not that low but you get my drift). Players like Hodge, Mitchell, Sewell, Lewis, they aint getting any younger, so it will rely on their kids stepping up. Could happen, might not too.
-
Gillies is the only one on a 1 year contract isn't he? To get rid of the other players we would have to trade or pay out. Can't see the former being much chance, and the latter is probably not realistic, so brace yourself!

Cam Pedersen tweeted a nice farewell tweet the other day. (Nb. when I say "nice", I mean that it was a normal "thank you and good luck" message - nothing sinister).
-
If we had to obey those principles RP, Demonland would have 3 threads and 15 posts in each one.

If there is a potential saviour coach out there that hasn't heard we are crap and that we are now looking for a new coach, I don't think they need to apply, dpositve. Do you think Carlton "advertised" after Ratten got the arse? They knew the bloke they wanted, they got him. Of course there is going to be a conversation (probably a numebr), but a true "job interview" is not what I would call it.
-
You advertise when/if the coach you want don't want us. There are clear standouts that you would then work out the order of preference. You work down that shallow list (I think it only has 5 names on it), and if you don't have your coach by then, then you advertise.
-
Headhunt. We want the best that there is. To interview would generally imply that they have to apply. We don't want to sit back and wait to see who comes to us, we go out there and get them. Same tactic needs to be used during trade week.

Which other teams will be looking for a coach in 2014?
The Chazz replied to What's topic in Melbourne Demons
Any rumblings about a Woosha replacement? As I said above, I don't think it will be an experienced coach. That said, if Woosha goes, it just adds another candidate to our impressive list. -
So you encourage players to go against the instructions of the coach? The game plan the players played to was not successful. We have no idea if the game plan that Neeld, or Bailey for that matter, worked because the players didn't implement it how they were instructed. Given that we continually got flogged playing Beamer's game plan probably just confirms that your agrument is moot. He is a dumb ass, has no idea about structures on field, lacked leadership, couldn't motivate the players around him. All this time I thought it was Neeld and Brian Royal that were incompetent. I couldn't give a toss if a player won a Brownlow, was blood related, or was just a top bloke, if he thinks he is better than the team, he can [censored] off. Funny how the man in question said similar about Brock McLean.

I think it would be highly unlikely if West Coast were looking for a new coach that they would go for an experienced coach (unless it was Danihar). I look at how Geelong has worked with Scott coming in as a "freshman", and think that other successful clubs would follow a similar path. The Eagles have a solid group that would just need a slight tinkering initially, and a newbie is more likely to do that than someone that is a "career coach". I am doubtful that Voss will get the arse this year. GWS obviosuly has a new coach next year, with that change not hindering our search for obvious reasons. I can't see any other changes and would expect we have a free crack at the field. Could be perfect timing for us to going through this total football club rebuild. -
Oh dear... Just to amuse me "Tonatopia", if a soldier went to war with the sole purpose of disobeying his general's orders, do you think his fellow soldiers would survive?

Interested to hear from the OP clarify how the current one has an apparent "lack of direction", especially comparing it to the 2 or 3 alternatives that have been proposed.
