So you would rather prostitute yourself to Vlad and hope that your empty bucket is filled by other clubs, than actually doing something proactive so that we hopefully can reduce to reliance of said handouts? The NT contribution isn't THAT big? I'll give you a tip, it's a bloody sight bigger than playing that same match at the MCG in our current state. Also, I'm pretty sure that when you buy a membership that the NT game is "reimbursed" with an away game at the MCG. So, you're not really losing any value in your actual membership. Reserved seating price, yes, I acknowledge that it's one less game. But, I'm sure the Club appreciates all memberships. I know you love your sayings, etc, I'lll give you an old one..."you don't go broke making a profit". Playing all our home games at the MCG and performing poorly WILL NOT make us a profit. I'm happy for you to ignore my views on this, but the fact that you're ignoring Peter Jackson's view on it is laughable.

As I said earlier B59, which you continually ignore (which in turn makes your argument weak) - we play the Melbourne vs Freo game at the MCG on a Sunday twilight instead of the NT, we need some 25,000 crowd to break even. From what PJ mentioned earlier this year, if we have 15,000 turn up to that match (10,000 less than what we need), we lose $100k-$200k. By playing this game in the NT, we are getting over $300k for it - that's nearly 1/2 million $ difference. Does that make us whores because from a business perspective we are better with $300k in the hand rather than writing off $150k? I'm not surprised you don't understand the financial and business aspect of it given your history. Clearly out of your depth. You talk about this crap of giving fish or be taught to fish. We are selling 2 home games. We have 9 other home games that will be played on our turf. 9 games is ample time to be taught how to fish, especially given we will be able to buy the best gear thanks to the NT funding.

Fanciful trip down Jurrah lane? In a lot of ways I'm critical of the previous admin given that they tried to milk as many royalties as possible from playing Jurrah. These trips by Stynes, Schwab etc to Jurrah's homeland were nothing but a PR exercise. All of a sudden, the NT government saw the "good work" we were doing and stepped in and offered us a few dollars to play a game up there. We saw the dollar signs, which we couldn't knock back at the time, and still can't. We had done a bit in the communities up there, especially when we had a greater number of indigenous players on our list, which made it a lot easier to be accepted. Then, when the shite hit the fan with Jurrah, it would've been easy for the MFC to walk away. The fact that a team, and in this case ours, has taken the time, and given the locals the respect of maintaining the relationship is a big positive for the club, and is giving us the right PR. It's a part of OUR country that loves anything AFL, a number of communities less fortunate than ours, and we are giving something back by playing a couple of games up there a year. In return, we are receiving significant financial benefits from doing so. You bang on about the short and long term damage to our "real" base by playing home games away. The damage to our "real" base in the past 7 years has been through on and offield performance, not through selling our soul to the NT Government. Simple proof is in the crowd sizes out our "real" home games at the MCG. And no doubt you, like some others, will use the fixturing as an excuse for low crowds for some games. You know what, that's absolute [censored], and actually, as a non-Victorian resident, I find it pissweak that our "real" base use this as an excuse not to attend a game, then in the next breath, they think selling games to the NT is going to have a longterm impact on the club. Here's the simple solution B59, you don't like us being the NT's [censored]? Well get off your arse and start going to our 4:30pm Sunday arvo games, regardless of our ladder position and opponent. Make sure you pick a few of your front-running mates up on the way to the G. When we start getting 25k-40k to those games, that's when we can walk away from the NT. From memory, weren't you one that mentioned about playing a game for premiership points in China during our China Experiment days?

The push in to the Northern Territory was done so (with more effort anyway) on the back of the Liam Jurrah story (some of the early, happier-reading chapters). At that time we had a number of Northern Territorians on our list, and it gave the "local", especially the kids, something to look forward to and support when it finally arrived. Jurrah to some of those kids was like Santa Claus. Obviously, Jurrah's story didn't end how we hoped, but instead of Melbourne doing a typical "melbourne" thing, we stuck at it and still showed respect for the locals, their communities, as well as the State. Bloody good on us I say. Rather than walking away when Jurrah did, which we would've done in the past, we've stuck at it. Will it bring the rewards we hope? Financially it isn't hurting us playing games there, especially given our current state. From a crowd perspective, I imagine that all these "prositute" games saw a drop in attendence figures during 2013. Heck, even Hawthorn's games at Tassie were around the 10,000-11,000 mark, as opposed to the 15,000 they were getting in 2008. Sure, our NT game last year was probably the lowest it's been in terms of crowds, but let's look at our times when we played in B59's own perfect storm, Canberra. We'd barely get 10k to those games, even though it's only an hour's flight from Melbourne, even though it's tempreature was less than 15 degrees, even though it's easier to recover from the next week. I'd imagine the crowd will be a lot less when we play in Alice, but I'm not too concerned about that. If we get 5,000 there to watch us vs Port Adelaide, I'm sure it'll be a lot more profitable than having 12,000 turn up to a lazy Sunday twilight at the MCG. If you used that example, you're probably talking a difference of about $500,000 to the club. Fact is, we need money. Fact is, we need to improve. We can do both of these playing 2 "home" games in the NT. To use the former as an excuse for not achieving the latter is idiocy, in particular the last 4 or 5 years. Even this year, we could've played 22 games at the MCG and we still wouldn't have won any more, if anything, we would've lost more money than what we did. B59, your argument on here has got zero substance, you have attacked everyone that has challenged you, and your responses are insignicant, so much so that I had to end my positing ban early because of how much a fool you were making yourself look. You are the Chris Connolly of Demonland. Your opinion on this matter is the exact thing that our current CEO has tried to get rid of out of our club. I'm not questioning your passion for the club, but I am absolutely questioning your ability to see when certain decisions need to be made. While it is totally not the point (getting in before you B59), we wouldn't be beating Freo or Port at the MCG this year. Perfect timing to be making money on our home games by playing them both in the NT!

Can someone tell me how I find one of my old posts where I mentioned earlier this year that Fremantle would win the flag? I just want to see what date it was that I made that call, and find the poster/s that questioned my judgement. For the purpose of this thread, I haven't changed my view.

Are you implying that he will miss it for other reasons, perhaps that he won't be on our list? Or are you just saying that he wil lbe right to go day 1 of preseason? The silly season hasn't even started yet and I'm already jumping at shadows! Damn you MFC, 7 years of tripe has worn me down!

Worst part about my opinion regarding the delistings is that I am in 100% agreeance with Mark Neeld! Somebody shoot me...
-
GNF - given your connections with some at the MFC, an I appreciate you keeping us updated where possible, I have to disagree with most of your post, sorry! I think the fact that 2 of the players we lost were our top 5 is part of the problem. We could see what impact Rivers has in big games just by looking at his performance last Friday night. He wouldn't be in the Top 15 at Geelong, shows how far we would've gone by retaining him. Moloney was probably the biggest loss given he can still impact a game, but just how many times did he do that for Brisbane this year? The biggest issue I had with him is the (alledged) open rejection of doing what the coach asked. I don't care how insipid Neeld was, sometimes (as a player) you have to follow orders. If he was purposely going against what Neeld was telling him, then that's not the type of player I want at my football club. Pettered was the most appropriate delisting out of the entire group. He is a classic example of work hard at Casey, play well, get a call up to the seniors, then think the hard work is over. Was it injuries, confidence, mental weakness? I don't know. While I can't see many challenging him for his half back flank role, I think that' highlights Richmond's lack of depth more than Petterd's ability. For him to play that role with us would mean he is ahead of Grimes, Strauss, and to some degree Watts. Even Joel Macdonald could play a similar role with the confidence that you knew he would put in 100%. I'm not going to comment on any other delisting we made in 2012, as I don't want to waste my time on them. I will say the Green retirement was perfect timing for both parties involved. Unfortunately for Green, he was a leader on a dreaded day down at Geelong, and for this club to stop going backwards, it needed to make changes to its leadership personnel. I would imagine BG would accept that.

Posted a photo of himself on Twitter yesterday stating that he has just kicked off his preseason. Good on him for showing the drive to ensure he is ready for day 1 of the real preseason. Time will tell if we see the benefits or not. One thing I like about Jimmy is his excitement about playing for the MFC. A majority on here had that "go home" concerrn when we picked him up, yet to my limited exposure, he seems to be loving his time at the club and is really focused on getting the best out of himself. Again, time will tell how accurate they are, but the negaitve views on this thread about Toumpas I feel are just plain ridiculous, especially for a kid tha thas just come off his first season in the big league, has played a dozen or so games in a shite side, and has been expected (by some supporters) to be an instant success. For the record, let's take a look at the amount of Brownlow votes other first year players received last night. O'Meara-4, Wines-1, Viney-2, Crouch-6, Vlaustin-1. At this stage, I'm more than happy with our selection of Toumpas. He showed enough in some games to suggest that, under the right development regime over the next 3 years, will become a valuable player with 50-70 games under his belt. Will he be an "elite" mid by then? Too hard to tell (I'm probably too gunshy to commit given our track record). I do believe it's too early to be writing him off, and picking on certain areas of his game to prove a point (ie ducking his head in a marking contest).

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - DANIEL CROSS
The Chazz replied to MadAsHell's topic in Melbourne Demons
Why would you uprgrade a rookie when you don't need to? Clisby doesn't need to be upgraded until the end of 2014. In regards to Magner, I wouldn't mind betting they will ask him to extend his rookie contract by 12 months, similar to what Jordie McKenzie did a few years back (presuming this is still within the rules). -
I kept scrolling down, and the re-posts kept a-coming. Am I the only one that got to the bottom of them all and was relieved that I didn't have an old post on there?!
-
And some people on here still want that [censored] working for our club. Sheesh.
-
Or that given we tried to develop them and failed, and then a second club has had a go and failed too, that it falls more on the player in question.
-
Should we be wearing the yellow jumper then? Was that not Paul Roos I saw On The Couch last night at the Exhibition Building in Carlton?
-
Is that not my point?
-
He is one player that I don't think we can afford to lose, and because of this, and his Free Agency status next year, I have a feeling we may end up having to pay overs for him. He will be on a number of radars, and will be offered serious coin.
-
New found confidence will take the players to a certain level. This level is far from being a premiership contender. For various reasons, our players have had no idea what it takes to win a premiership. They think they know, but they are a long way from what is reality. For me, this will be Roos' biggest challenge. You work your ass off to play finals. When you make it, you work even harder to finish top 4. When that happens, you raise the bar again until you win a flag. After that, you work even harder again to win it the following year/s. We have a culture of stopping after my first point.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - DANIEL CROSS
The Chazz replied to MadAsHell's topic in Melbourne Demons
While he's a total fwit, I don't think many Carlton supporters would be complaining about McLean's season. He was very good, and I'd imagine he'll poll quite well in their B&F, and that's in a midfield of Judd, Murphy and Gibbs. In regards to Libba having a standout year, that is totally correct. How much impact did Cross have on this? Could Toumpas or Viney have a "Libba" year if they were surrounded by N Jones, Cross and Trengove? We are in no position to say what sort of an impact Cross had on some players at the Dogs, and what impact he will have on some of our players, but, given he will be a freebie, I think we have more to gain than lose by offering him a 1 or 2 year deal. Other option is picking him up as a rookie, as given our injury record, someone will be on the LTI list by the start of the season allowing Cross to be elevated immediately! -
Ben Mathews; Hard working Professional Instills confidence throughout a team Amazing communicator, especially one-on-one Will give players some self belief, but also ensure they understand that they have to work for it Source: Me. Played footy with him in his life after Sydney. Stoked to have him on board at the MFC. He will be respected by our players from Day 1.

You said similar about Neeld. However, as there is more love in the air today than Valentine's Day, B59, I'm more than happy to say. "I agree with you post"!!!

This is like internet porn, but better.

Your work not have the internet? You have time to post on here, but can't watch the presser? Tell the boss to GAGF.

He helped me walk from Queenscliff to Sorrento - the short route.

Why are you posting in a Lynden Dunn thread at the moment? Didn't you hear that Roos has signed and his thread is going off at the moment??!!! [censored], what am I doing in this thread?!
