  1. He just buys himself time really well and generally makes very good decisions. Looks a class above most.
  2. Skills have been terrible today and not even because of the poor-skilled ins. Our better users are just butchering chances. Play 10% better though and we are right in the game...
  3. For the second week in a row, we have a "mid with only 2 possessions at half time. I'm happy for Roos to use Salem or Riley as the sub but we can't afford players who do a couple of 1%ers but don't get their hands on it for 3 quarters. I think it's about time for Michie and Blease to get a run instead of them for a few weeks.
  4. I agree with some others on Riley's fitness. I also think Salem is much more of a weapon as a sub at the moment as he has struggled to impact games for extended periods thus far but always does a couple of crucial things when he comes on late in the game. I would keep JKH at Casey for one more week, swap Riley and Michie and leave Salem as sub.
  5. I use my Apple TV too. Latest version of the app but older version of the Apple TV box so not sure if that impacts anything. Also, I stream from my iPad...
  6. Should be Salem. Riley is a better chance of impacting the game for longer but Salem would be a dangerous set of fresh legs at the end
  7. Toumpas reminds me a lot of Ryan Griffen early days. I think that he has some strong attributes and a great attitude so we should give him some time. Way too early to consign him to the "poor high pick" category.
  8. I think that we are probably pretty long odds to land Cameron given that every other Victorian club would chase him should he choose to leave. Notwithstanding that, I have heard from the club similar concerns to GNF re Hogan and with Clark retiring key forward may remain a genuine area of need for us. I love the ideaa of getting Cameron to the Demons but I think that we would be a better chance of luring Jon Patton or Sam Reid. Reid is now surely wondering where his future will lie at the Swans. He is on a five year deal until 2016 but that might not be the issue it once was given the Swans' forward line. If we could land Patton and a mid from GWS or Reid and someone like a Luke Parker for the same cost as Cameron we'd be doing pretty well.
  9. Hopefully a couple of key player signings will now follow
  10. I don't see any problem with this suspension. If Dawes had been on the receiving end I would've expected 1-2 weeks... it was a deliberate strike to the face. Softish, but that is a clear example of unneccesary contact to the head.
  11. The big issue that we face that the bigger clubs don't is that our annual financial performance is highly sensitive to onfield performance. We don't have the massive membership numbers underwriting profitability year on year that can both (a) shelter our profit when gate receipts etc are down and (b) allow us to build a more robust asset base. Collingwood, Hawthorn, West Coast etc. do have this. While it would seem we are in a far stronger financial position than the Bulldogs for example (who have net liabilities and are a going concern issue) unless we can significantly improve our membership levels we will always be a variable financial performer.
  12. And Jordan Lewis at 7.
  13. He hasn't nominated the Saints, just said he felt good about a meeting with them a few weeks ago. He followed that comment with "I'm happy to go wherever. As long as the club wants me there, I'll give my 100 per cent."
  14. Imagine a thread on Demonland diverting off topic into an annoying political discussion or similar...
  15. You miss the point. Franklin would be a band 1 and Sylvia a band 3 which reflects the significant difference in ability and output. The closeness in picks is only because we finished 16 spots apart on the ladder...
  16. Given the inherent riskiness in drafting even at the top end, I think we should entertain using the top picks for guys like Selwood and Sloane with potentially a later first rounder in return. Picks one and three (or two with no PP) are a significant carrot. Risk-weighted, if we could spend two draft picks and wheel in Sloane and Selwood and still maybe end up with a mid-late first rounder and pick 20 or 21 (which we will have anyway) I would take that in a heartbeat. We would instantly have built a competitive midfield with a long-term future and without compromising our ability to draft in. Adams fits this bracket as well. That said, I hate the idea of spending those picks on anything less than playersof this calibre is fraught with danger and, in my opinion, foolhardy.
  17. If we could trade picks 1 and 3 (hypothetical PP I know) for a Sloane and Selwood and maybe a later first rounder I would be over the moon. We would have an instantly competitive midfield with Viney, Toumpas and Kent to come on. We are bereft of midfield talent in the 22-25 year bracket and a guy like Aish would look like another lost puppy without some senior players around him FFS.
  18. Geez BB, you are the ultimate hindsight warrior. You speak as if picking players who will stay on the park is a simple exercise. The injury Clark sustained could not have been predicted as a result of any injury history so the point as to how much he is paid is an irrelevance.Clark when fit is in the best 2 players in the side so surely you wish him well and hope he recovers. The self-righteous impatience on this forum disgusts me at times.
  19. Despite the fact he's worn the sub vest more than any other player this year he sits second on our goal kicking table. I wouldn't rule out another year, there's nobody on our list that can play his role better...
  20. Would have thought coaching experience at AFL level might also be a factor, just saying. To credit someone like Neil Craig who coached quite successfully at AFL level (and who incidentally also had a very long SANFL career) with 0 games is very misleading. Looks like a bit of a data mining exercise to me...
  21. I think Davey has played his role in both games so far.
  22. He contested the hit outs but that is all. Once he's "gone up" for the tap he's as much of a spectator as I am.
  23. Right now, with Gillies, Sellar and Jamar we have three of the least effective players in the comp generally running around in the 1s (Gillies aside for this week). The sooner we don't need guys like this the better it will be for all of us
  24. There are just still so many players on the list that we know aren't flag capable players and have little upside. While many of our promising players still have glaring deficiencies. Guys like Sellar and Gillies don't (and will never) cut the mustard. Some have a genuine dip (sometimes) but butcher the footy, like Nicho, Bail, J-Mac, Magner, Jordie etc. Some can use the footy but don't get their hands on it enough (Tapscott, Strauss). All mentioned so far (except Strauss) are also relatively poor decision makers. Some are too soft (Davey, Watts, Dunn), some are just past it (Davey again, Jamar, Rodan) and some coast too much despite obvious talent (Sylvia is exhibit A, B and C). Even some of our more promising players are concerning. Trenners was a great prospect before injury and now looks slow and indecisive. Grimes gets plenty of it and tries hard but still makes poor decisions with the footy and Howe's disposal is much worse than most give him credit for. With the exceptions of big Mitch and Nate Jones, I find little to get me excited other than raw youngsters. Groundhog Day. I hope we turn it around before we fold.
  25. These guys will be among a host of certain delistings at years end. That group also includes Luke Tapscott, Ro Bail and Joel Macdonald IMO...
