  1. Of course but the thing is those GFG seats have already been sold at the normal price. So what to do?
  2. The name (and the idea for that matter) is terrible but so are most of the other names dreamt up in that brainstorm session. At the risk of cultural appropriation (but hey the AFL already does that anyway) Corroboree Round has a nice ring to it with all the clubs converging on one place like the traditional indigenous corroborees.
  3. WC will rebound this year, no way they are as bad as last year with all the injuries they had. They could barely field a team half the time.
  4. Nah, would rather keep Kozzie every day of the week. Plus who gives us that draft hand? Not Port.
  5. I've been getting emails about renewing on a couple of memberships I didn't rollover for differing reasons so not sure why you haven't received anything. On the reserved seats I wonder if the issue is they've sold out the GFGs so any future reserve seats won't have this add-on thereby reducing the value of the membership. So they may have to reduce the price of those reserve seat memberships? Either that or they're still waiting on people to confirm if they're renewing them or not? Either way seems strange no figures have been released yet.
  6. I don't think a standalone facility is viable but surely we could get something at one of the MCG function rooms for matchdays.
  7. I think 2022 showed just how important he really is for us. His absence and lack of form when returning was a key reason we didn't have the same movement out of our back half as we did in 2021.
  8. Jinxed!! You don't tempt the footy gods like that, what on earth compelled you to do so? Have you learnt nothing in your years following the MFC???
  9. What I'd like to see from the MFC in 2023? A flag at the G
  10. Media rights is the main one, sponsorship, AFL membership distributions and other league revenues etc all contribute.
  11. Many reasons but the main ones being fixturing and stadium deals.
  12. Includes prizemoney for winning the flag from memory plus the standard funding all club's get as part of their cut of the media rights/revenue (basically covers the TPP/salary cap from memory).
  13. NFL

Doing it now before I forget haha. No games in between anyway 🤷🏽
  14. It's only one device though yeah? (The one with the Foxtel iq box connected) Kayo you can use on any smart device and can watch on two or three devices simultaneously if you pay a bit extra (still cheaper than Foxtel). You can also split with a mate/family member for the time being which works out to $15 a month and there is no contract or joining fees so you can cancel as soon as the footy is finished meaning you're only paying for 6 months instead of 12.

I don't mind Payton but I don't like the Broncos and I hate Russell Wilson so I hope he fails spectacularly too. Meanwhile Nathanial Hackett to the Jets, will Rodgers be joining him? Will make things interesting at One Jets Drive next year if that's the case
  17. The AFL is the VFL. It is the same competition, those interstate teams decided to join an expanded VFL rather than push for a new national competition. Therefore the records get counted from the commencement of the league in 1897. One continuous league, nothing changed in 1990 other than a rebranding. You say it started when Sydney, Brisbane, West Coast, Adelaide joined/relocated. So should we start from 1982? 1987? 1991? Why not start in 2012 after GC/GWS joined. Or maybe we should wait until Tassie join and just play for participation awards until then. If we don't include premierships pre-1991 do we also exclude games played? Norm Smith, Brownlow, Coleman medals and other awards? Do Pratt/Hudson's 150 goals record get wiped? Fred Fanning's 18 goal record? No because they are competition records, others have scored more goals in other competitions but they are irrelevant to the honour rolls of the VFL/AFL. The counting of premierships (and other records) is not about the relative merit compared to current day or other comps. They are simply a record of the achievements made in the VFL/AFL competition which commenced in 1897. Nothing more, nothing less. By all means celebrate the achievements pre-1897 or flags won in the SANFL but they don't count in the official records of the VFL/AFL competition.
  18. Hmm distinct lack of different font colours and sizes and random italics throughout the post 🤔
  19. I agree history should be recognised. Pre-1897 VFA can and should be recognised as the premier competition in Victoria. But it was not the same competition so when you're talking about competition records they don't count for the VFL/AFL. It's the same reason we don't count SAFL/SAFA/SANFL, WAFL, TFL, WAFL etc records in VFL/AFL records. The SAFL or WAFL could make an argument they were the pre-eminent competitions in the country pre-1897, even post-1897 for a period of time. You can argue those state comp premierships/achievements are equivalent to the achievements of those in the VFL. But they were not in this competition which is why they cannot and should not be included in the official records. I feel we are both just as passionate on this, I have Colin Carter's book which I will read, I've read Geoff Blaineys book and many other books on the history of the game. I am all for more recognition of the history of Aussie Rules. But if we are talking about VFL/AFL records/premiership tallies those commence in 1897 because that is when the competition commenced and it is the same continuous competition that still runs today. The pre-1897 premierships should be celebrated by the club's as part of their achievements and honour board etc but they don't count towards VFL/AFL premierships because they were not won in the VFL/AFL competition.
  20. Checked the fixture the other day and the first game I'll get to is ANZAC Eve! 3 of our first 5 interstate and have other things one when we play Dogs and Swans 😡
  21. It was not the same league though Macca. 1897 was a new breakaway league called the VFL. The VFA still existed and continued as a separate entity as I'm sure you know. Another change that occurred in 1897 with the breakaway league was the inclusion of behinds in the total score tally. Initially only goals were counted, then behinds were counted but not included in the score. In 1897 behinds were added as one point with goals awarded six points to calculate the total score. For anyone interested in the history I recommend the podcast Kick to Kick, 2 (sometimes 3) Melbourne supporters and an Essendon supporter going through the history one year at a time (although they cover the pre 1897 stuff in one podcast from memory). They are all history teachers too from memory.
  22. Just wait a few years and we can wipe the slate clean when Tassie enter. In fact let's just say the only flag that counts is the last one 🤔🤣
  23. No, the AFL in 1990 (not 1991) was the same competition as the VFL in 1989. It was the same teams, same governance structure, same rules, same awards etc. The only difference was a name change, a rebranding. It's like saying the Melbourne Fuschias and the Melbourne Demons are two separate clubs.
  24. No, because pre-1897 was a different competition. All those changes post 1897 were part of one continuous league, the VFL which changed its name to AFL in 1990. The governance of the league continued from 1989 to 1990, 1897 was a breakaway competition with a new structure and governance. Some of the "premierships" awarded pre-1897 were done so by vote of media and the "fixture" was far from official with some teams playing more games than others, some teams not playing against other teams and doubling up against others etc. It was far more informal than the structured competition which began in 1897. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_VFA/VFL_premiers "From 1877 until 1887, the premiership was a title given to the best performing team, determined largely by press consensus. These premierships, as well as premierships between 1870 and 1876 decided in the same manner prior to the foundation of the VFA, were at the time an informal title, but have since been considered official.[1][2]"
