  1. Can it beat this? Well it's not quite a prediction but you get the idea. http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4475 Some interesting observations from some learned posters. Frawley was the standout for mine. Good to see I never viewed Warnock as a long term solution.
  2. FB: Grimes Garland Bartram HB: Rivers Frawley Bruce C: Davey Moloney Scully HF: Sylvia Watts Dunn FF: Green Petterd Jurrah R: Jamar Trengove Jones INT: Morton McKenzie Bate Bennell Couldn't believe I selected Bartram but we lack options in his position and despite his obvious short comings, he has played well this year. The rest select themselves. I found this exercise to be quite easy. This is the team I wanted to select: FB: Grimes Garland Bail HB: Rivers Frawley Morton C: Davey Gysberts Scully HF: Sylvia Watts Tapscott FF: Green Jurrah Bennell R: Jamar Trengove Moloney INT: Petterd Wonaeamirri Gawn Jones
  3. I have a 2010 jumper but never wear it to the footy. I wear it to footy training, having a kick with the boys and when I am trying to get a rise out of my cycling mates. The only bloke on beach road with an AFL jumper on. They make great wind vests....
  4. How anybody could drop Bennell over Wonaeamirri is mind blowing. Wona is a favourite but he has done very little since he returned to the game. Bennell plays an effective defensive role and can use his pace to create some run. I am not sure who is going out but I reckon any one of the following would be feeling the heat after a few underwhelming games: Morton, Jurrah, Wonaeamirri with Johnson coming under scrutiny as a 2nd ruck. Bail would be unlucky to be in this group. Also, the way Scully ran out the game last week gave me little indication that he required a week off....
  5. I watched Frawley closely after that chase. He was absolutely spent. I had high expectations for him from the get go but he has exceeded what I thought possible. I never knew he would have such swagger..... Only the great ones do.
  6. That is interesting because I was under the impression that Mark Stevens had a direct line to one, Jim Stynes. Either Stynes has told him that is isn't a done deal due to the theory you explained or perhaps it is a little misdirection by the club to alleviate some pressure on the young fella. Or he got his info from somewhere else. Either way I am not fussed. I believe that we are well down the path to securing Jack but I guess these situations are fluid and anything can happen. For me, any news on Todd taking up a position in Victoria for season 2011 or 2012 will effectively seal the deal but I suspect we will know before then. In saying all that I still take the view that if the Viney's decide the MFC is the best place for him then it is a bonus for us and nothing more. What we do with him once we (or 'if' for the less confident) get him is the important bit.
  7. I believe the Viney family are looking to move back to Victoria to support Jack which would indicate his future lies with us. What is a little more interesting is that there is some scuttlebutt that they could move back before Jack's 1st season. If we commit early that could mean that he could train with us, time permitting of course.
  8. shyte. I'm behind the curve on that one too...
  9. Depending on where you are in the world this site works. There is a list of countries that are eligible to use the site somewhere there... You have to pay per game but the stream is pretty good and works on my Mac. http://www.omnisport.tv/page/Home/0,,12637,00.html
  10. Watts is a concern and the bar for this bloke seems to be set pretty low. As Hannabal states, his relative youth and inexperience cannot excuse his lack of physicality and hardness. Obviously he will never be of the ilk of Archer or Jono Brown but watching the kid hit the contests harder would be of more interest to me than seeing him slot a few goals from soft free kicks etc. Long term, a change in mindset will help him more than anything else as his body will develop over time. I agree 100% on Strauss. He won't make it. He not only lacks the defensive instincts and the ability to consistently find the footy but he also lacks other footy intangibles. He struggles with his concentration, intensity levels and awareness. He kind of reminds me of Daniel Bell in that he has many tools to be a good player but no where near the full package. (Combine their relative strengths and you have a player.) Fark I hope I am proven wrong. That draft looks like gold at the back end but very at the front end at this early stage.
  11. You are right. I always look for a few key signs plus any special attribute and then hope they develop. With Frawley, he showed during his 1st preseason that he had a great deal of pace and an uncanny ability to create run for a long term key defender. Garland showed poise and read the play well. I even liked his game against Hawthorn in RD1 2008. He got smashed by a lot of posters here but I couldn't get past his talent. If I were to get a jumper and a number it would be 8, 20 or 12.... but I won't as I am over 25.
  12. Im having a mental blank. Who was the father son during the early 90's who had 28 on his back? Ranga..... couldnt kick..... not too athletic..... funny nickname.... had a decent career in the SANFL after he was delisted.... BUGGAR!!!!!!!!! what is his name?!?!?!??!?!
  13. 1: Macdonald 5: Trengove 9: Bennell 13: Strauss 17: Blease 28: Gysberts 31: Scully 35: Tapscott 43: Gawn 44: Fitzpatrick If Spencer was upgraded I would have made him wear #1 but MacDonald seems a good fit. Trengove and Scully for 5 & 31 has been rumoured for some time. Bennell is very highly rated and will be offered a high number while I heard a crappy rumour that Jetta likes his number.... 1 of Tapscott or Gysberts will take 35. Write that down.
  14. What stood out for me was his pure arrogance and good body size. Neither go astray on the footy field. His kicking is good as well.....
  15. I spoke to a recruiter (not MFC) months ago about the available talls in this draft with an eye to getting 1 or 2 with our 2nd, 3rd or 4th pick. He mentioned some players who I have since forgotten but I do remember his take on Talia. Basically he said Talia was a talent and would probably turn out to be a fine player but is more likely to play a flank or midfield role and he wasn't a natural key position player. Obviously there is more to it but maybe that is why BP didn't rate him higher??? Fitzy looks like a good pick at 50 for me. Tall, athletic, good kick and good hands...... Kelly O'Donnell will be happy to have such a lump of clay to work with.
  16. Pretty sure Blease has made some enquiries regarding wearing 17 next year. Also seem to remember Schwabby mentioning on Twitter that 5 was worn by Bluey Truscott (I think that is right) and that he would like to see a good young player continue the history of it. I instantly decided that he was offering an insight to the thoughts of the footy dept re numbers and as a result I think Trengove will wear 5 next year. 1: Spencer (won't happen but the big unco would look great wearing #1) 5: Trengove 9: Rested/Bennell (don't believe in resting numbers but it may happen..... silly idea) 13: Jetta 17: Blease 24: Jurrah 28: Strauss 31: Scully Re Scully: I remember watching the MFC Reserves back in the day and observing Rod Keogh tear teams apart and thinking to myself, "I really want this bloke to be smashing it in the senior side." I loved watching a midfielder crash in wearing 31. It meant something to me as a kid. I hope Scully's career resembles RDB more than Rod's and he makes the number famous again.
  17. I'm a bit over supporters who think like this. The MFC is a commercial operation that requires as many streams of cash as possible. Here is an opportunity to make a tidy little profit for little outlay other than the cost of the venue (which should be low due to our new relationship with the MCC) and staff and I for one am happy with the planned function. American sporting franchises have being doing events such as this for years and only make it available to courtside season ticket holders as a general rule. They are seen as neither 'elitist' or non inclusive, it's just recognized as an opportunity to involve some fans and make some money. Imagine if the MFC went for a more 'inclusive' model, in a park (As you suggest in another post) with a small entry fee. Sounds like the Family Day to me. When you add the time of day and year of this event, you open yourself to many variables which have the ability to impact on attendance, profit and the general mood of the event. What is the point of such a function if it loses money, gets moved due to variable factors or is cancelled? Perhaps we should make the Presidents Lunch $10 for every member and make it more inclusive? Keeping the draft night function smaller works, for both fans and the club. Those who can attend will have an intimate setting to hear about our new recruits while the club can get press exposure from the function and communicate directly to supporters in attendance. It also will be an opportunity to show sponsors and financial contributors the club and some of it's members, as it is likely the last major bit of positive press we will receive until February. Like it or not, economics matters on such occasions, especially to a club still in massive debt. You should take your point regarding the location to Cameron Schwab. He wants to embrace our history and build on it. To me, from a marketing point of view it is a positive move. It gives us a home, an identity and a soul. The model of free entry with your membership is the model for economic ruin. That is how clubs operated 20 years ago, we need to stay progressive and use every opportunity like this as an opportunity to make money and engage our supporters and sponsors. Your last point cannot be argued against. We need somewhere, a social club or something similar, and soon.
  18. I laugh hard and long reading these Garland threads. Flash back to Round 1 & 2 2008, the vitriol and pure ignorance that was posted here was a disgrace. Now after a long layoff and a promising 2008, he is the missing link. Displays the worst of forums such as this and the fickleness of supporters. For mine, I will be happy with any contribution to the senior team we get out of the following players after a disastrous 2009: Garland, Wonaeamirri, Blease & Strauss
  19. Being a Hunt fan is sign of poor judgement. The man is so disconnected from reality and the broader Australian public that it is frightening. There isn't enough sorbent extra soft in the world to wipe away the shyte that spews from his mouth. Was kind of looking forward to the choice of all stations. Oh well....
  20. I agree that the depth isn't there from an APS standpoint but he was a phenomenon. Watched him when he was in year 10 tear apart a Xavier side featuring a star studded midfield of future AFL players. I actually don't think it has too many ramifications with our own number 4. He dominated for Vic Metro. I remember going to watch Country V Metro and basically just following Hurley's every movement as I thought he was on our radar but the blonde key forward for Metro stole his thunder in a massive way. Watts will be fine. Anyone who saw him play that day knows what he is capable of.
  21. I seriously doubt that to be true. Judd was kicking massive bags of goals (13 or 14 in 1 match) for Caulfield Grammar playing as a forward and getting leather poisoning in the midfield. I hope he is a gun but I don't hold high hopes for his 1sy year in terms of output. Same goes for Trengove or whoever else we select.
  22. How do you know these figures? Was it reported in the media? Watts will be good for us next year, I have no doubts. Looking forward to seeing him improve and help out Bater and Jurrah as marking targets.
  23. The last line about physical development is heartening. I distinctly remember reading that he thought he didn't need to be built up physically last preseason. The kid has a chance to be a real star. Good speed, balance and generally pretty good disposal and an intangible quality that we need in spades, class. Looking forward to seeing him develop over the next few seasons. Should take the number 13.
