Taking note of your last sentence (which I also love) why does Mark Neeld need someone like Neil Craig to "stand behind" him? He might benefit from a "mentor"giving advice from the sidelines. But a "senior assistant" might just be a "silly old man" distraction.

Not mine. The club showed good sense in not upping the ante any more. If he had stayed it would have only been for the money - not the club. Lets put our focus back on the current players and getting a coach who can take us to a flag(s)

Think that's more or less what I said. The worst part about it is that a 20 year old kid is having to make such choices, largely because of a unique set of circumstances. But you cannot deny this has been a diversion we could have done without.

Good way of looking at it. In another sense, would he have been so "attractive" to GWS if we'd picked him at #2 instead ? One might say it was fortunate the coin landed as it did.Otherwise we might be having to fend off GWS from Trengove instead. But then again, he has already shown he is a club man. In the end "kharma" might prevail.

It's over. He (or those around him) have shown no loyalty to anything but the dollar in their pockets. Admittedly the entire scenario has been set up that way - which is totally unfair on us, but more on making it so attractive for him, to make the move. I have been an MCC Overseas Member for the past 18 years and have always included the MFC Membership in the package, as long as it has been available. I really appreciate the car stickers, calendar and even the scarfs (don't get much wear in Bangkok though!) Before that, my MFC renewal was irregular. So, it works for me. The club is very aware of this avenue for securing members

Quite possible. And that's the correct way to do it. It avoids a confrontation should we get someone like MM or Ross Lyon. He is putting the club, ahead of his own ambitions. Aren't we therefore fortunate to have him on board??

For "god's sake", If you're going to call out a former champion and captain - at least spell his name correctly. In any case, you should lay off him. He is doing his bit to help a mate. But, most of all he is doing his bit for the club. Clearly he doesn't want the job - that's life. However, until someone else is able to stand up, he's the best we've got. The same applies for Todd. And as one other poster said: Todd wants the best for the club. If we do manage to catch one of the big fish, he will support that. If circumstances create a position where he is able to apply for the job, well, as he said, he'll review things at the end of the year. To me, that's putting the good of the club ahead the individual. What's wrong with that ?

Only one suggestion : CALM DOWN Have an early night, then go back and look at your post. It might help you put some logic into your obvious (and not without reason) frustration.

You forget there is more to Sylvia's "form slump" than few poor games. He is a "showboat" player on too many occasions. Today's example of trying to do something, even Franklin would find difficult, with that (missed) goal, when Dunny was standing on his own in the goal square, says it all. Brain snap ? Maybe. A player with his experience should know better. Therefore, if he wants to go after the big money, let him. Same with Scully. But, I feel sorry for him. He's a kid. The pressure around him,makes it very difficult for him, and the club. Whose fault is it ? Does it matter ? But as for the "nearly" players, we have the nucleus of a great team, who need better support players than we have at present. The biggest problem we have, is with the "experienced" guys. Most of them have shown to be carryig so much bad baggage, that they are not helping the young guys. But, thankfully we are slowly unearthing a future leadership group. Trouble is, they are nearly all still around 20-22 years old and need to focus on become complete footballers first.

I always saw him as such. The sad thing about such a position, is that it is rare to find the "right time" to move on from the job. It was unfortunate, events forced a less than positive outcome, because he could have continued to make a contribution to the team he was instrumental in establishing, to take us to glory.

Some good points here. I don't want to appear pedantic, but it would help if we all got the spelling of Garry Lyon's first name correct. It's Garry not Gary Now back on topic. It's good to see him finally get involved. In many ways it's a pity it took a crisis to get his "support". Jimmy and the club have needed it for some time.

Although I think Brad Green would set an example by standing down like a Japanese Politician does when things go against them, I agree with all you have said. Dean has been responsible and selfless in putting it all in place for our future. That he will not be part of what he was instrumental in constructing is sad. But if we are to be the club we want to be, his enormous contribution will eventually be recognized.

All good comments, but the last one is spot on. We don't need a "super coach", who will as much as anything, be out to prove something to themselves over enriching a club. We need exactly what you suggest

Yes, that's very true. It is also why I doubt a coach of Malthouse's credibility would want a job like this. Perhaps Eade does; perhaps Roos for the "intellectual" challenge... Therefore we have little choice but to either build and support someone like Viney who is aware of the club's rotten culture, or go to market and try a newbie. I favor Viney - moreover he'll have the niext 5 weeks to prove himself.
