  1. Well put. I would also say Brad should have done an extra tweet and said HE as Captain takes responsibility as well. Therefore he will stand aside as Captain, immediately.
  2. This is a sad day. I feel for Bailey, but in the end, the job was beyond him. Let's hope we get to know the full story of what is going on, in the next few days, from the club - before the media. So, far it has been the other way around. Before we all cry out for a Malthouse, Matthews, Eade, Roos to come to our rescue, I think we should look at our track record with high profile coaches since 1964. There have been many of them - even our prodigal son RDB. Unfortunately, they all failed. The only coaches to get us near a flag (Northy & Danahier) were both in the "minor" league when we selected them. Look at the job both the Scott brothers are doing (albeit one has a Rolls Royce list and the other a Holden ute - even if it has some excellent potential. With the club in such obvious turmoil would Mick or any of the other star candidates want to come over to us ? We probably have little alternative than to go for a "new" coach. Can Viney fill that role - as is so often pointed out about Roos at the Swans? At least he understands the club culture and is deeply involved in these events. Forget finals. The next 5 weeks should be about giving Viney and the other assistant coaches a chance to prove themselves. Who knows, they might even have a game plan that works - they know the players well enough.
  3. +1 I'm sure there are many of us long time sufferers who feel this way. We've probably felt it for the past 47 years. But, there comes a time, when enough is enough. This is 2011, not 1979 or even 1988 (the worst day I have experienced, prior to this one - but I was there for that). We need to do all you say and then some. We probably won't win next week, even if we do ring the bells, but we have to start somewhere. And to write off the rest of the year and use the disruption in a positive way, will at least give us a chance, in the years to come. If we don't , well, the prospects are too awful to contemplate.
  4. Spot On. That dream of sitting in the MCG on Grand Final Day and cheering as we win, looks as far away as ever. Even if we are now about to have a big s**t fight in the club, we must do it now. Too many people (supporters, club, players) have come too far, to just throw their hands up and say "oh well"
  5. I have been following the Dees since 1961. I was there in 1964 and still hope to be there when we hold the cup up sometime in the next 3-5 years. However, today's game shows that unless we are prepared to do the hard things now, that will not happen. Dean Bailey should also see this and resign immediately. It is not that it's "all his fault"- but it would seem he has 1. run out of ideas and 2. lost the ability to motivate the team. Old Dee said in an earlier post our players are not as good as we are made to believe. I am not sure that is correct. But they are not being we led (what happened to Moloney today...Green has played another shocker)and they are being coached by someone who has come to the end of his effectiveness.
  6. Not on TV here for a couple of hours - don't think I could... From the stats - 0 for Moloney and 1 handball for Green. Frawley and McKenzie the only Dees in double figures. What gives?
  7. Why does Bate need to go ? There were others who on today's game, should be considered before him. Like today, we need some stronger bodies up front. And, whilst he might just make the grade, he didn't do anything wrong today.
  8. Agree 100%. Too often he's a show pony and forgets he needs to kick it to a fellow Demon, who can do something with it. Could sort of forgive one of the young guys but his mistake in the 3rd qtr was not worth 450k.
  9. I envy you WJ. There are many good things about living in Bangkok, but not being there to give my grandson such important advice is not one of them !
  10. Okay, I accept your local knowledge about the weather in Cairns today. We both agree the Tigers are not even close to finishing "9th again". But, I hope you see my point about how the conditions in Darwin affected tonight's game ?
  11. Yes, the Tigers were terrible. They have been so, since we beat them. That's not my point. I accept Cairns is not Darwin. But, it was mid-afternoon and quite warm, but perhaps not as humid as Darwin. However, when you've come from a place where the temperature this morning was down around zero, going to a place where the daytime temperature was a very pleasant mid-twenties, it affects peak performance. The Tigers ran out just like we did - looking like 100 point winners, but after half time they got progressively worse. All their bad habits reappeared. Why ? Just because they are a crap team ? Yes,probably true. But, the conditions started the rot, which brought them back to earth and the usual dissapointments. The Suns to their credit were more used to the weather and also took the opportunity given to them on a plate. In contrast, under much more difficult conditions, but still hard for a bunch of guys from Melbourne, we didn't implode - because we are not a "crap team". We slowed, but we did not lose.
  12. Exactly! That's not to say we shouldn't play games like this. It's why very few World Records are broken at International Athletic and Swimming events in "tropical" countries. Some of the people I run with, have lived in this sort of climate all their lives. And, although I think I could match them in a race in Melbourne, they whip me here ! As we are committed to playing more games at TIO and maybe we'll also play in Cairns, we need to know how to deal with it. We also need to realize our outcomes (not losses) might be a lot closer than they should be.
  13. I think you are being as bit unfair to the boys with your comments. If the game was in Melbourne (anywhere) and even in Adelaide, I would agree with you. But Port have played in these conditions more than us. Look at how the Tiges fell away today. The Suns ran them down, because Richmond suffered under similar conditions to those at TIO. Because the Suns are more conditioned to playing in hot humid weather. People (although the Melbourne coaching and training group obviously did, with the use of cool rooms etc)need to understand just how difficult it can be playing in 25c + 75% humidity as opposed to 10c at the MCG. The real state of our team should be judged more by how we play next week, back in Melbourne.
  14. It was just good to get the 4 points in the end. Having lived in Bangkok for the last 11 years, where the weather is similar to Darwin, you can't read a lot into Port's finish and our apparent fade. I run here every day and do mini-marathons (10.5kms) regularly. This weather is very draining. That we we managed to hold on in the last qtr. after such a fast start was a great effort - don't knock it. But as some other posters have mentioned, this might destroy us for next week - let's hope not.
  15. Amazing this is even being considered. I thought we played "soft footy"? Grow a brain MRP !
  16. I think the "hard nuts" you talk about had their own troubles tonight and therefore were not there for Scully. He has to learn how to negate this close tagging. Otherwise, we'll have another Davey (particularly this year) to deal with. If he's to be the "class act" we believe he is, he'll learn to deal with it.
  17. Good point. Last week we played as a team - even if there were some very good individual contributions. It was close to our best win of the year. This was an important game against a side (The Tiges) who are at a similar stage in their development - so we had an obvious reason to work collectively. Tonight we were walloped by the Doggies. We got carried away with beating Richmond and a very under manned and playing in Melbourne, Freo. The Doggies had strength tonight and came to win.We seemed to come along thinking - without knowing how - this would be a walk up start to a win. We had been lauded in the media as "back on track". We don't just need to believe that, we need to show it. We didn't. So a couple of standout moments, from individuals is all we have to show for our effort. At least we did have some - against the Maggies, we had nothing ! If we get dumped out of the 8 after this weekend, so be it. If we don't learn from tonight to be there for each other and not the "highlights reel" ...is that all there is?
  18. The umpiring was poor and it cost us a couple of goals. But we were not good enough to win tonight - end of story
  19. To say Ricky P should be traded is not right. Putting his showboat mark aside, he was one of the guys who never gave up. Tonight was a lesson that we play well, in fact very well, when we are allowed to. But tonight we came up against a side who were considered real contenders at the start of the season, who fell into hard times, but are now "recovering". They toweled us like the Maggies did. More they gave us a lesson, with their close checking and focus on a couple of our better ball movers such as Scully and Moloney. Out: Bennel and maybe Morton In: Garland and Tapscott(if fit - but a week at Casey might be better)
  20. Well done guys - keep up the good work. Although the official MFC site has improved "out of sight" this year, with lots more video content; much better and more timely coverage of events, it will never have the "edgeiness"and open forum nature, you have achieved. All in all, a good result for everyone !
  21. Was an important part of a team, who were perhaps not as talented as today's lot. However, along with Jimmy, Danny Hughes, Rodney Grinter and others, they played with such passion, that if the current bunch can "channel" some of that culture, the future will be very bright indeed! Thank you Sean.
