MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 9
Adam The God replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
They may just keep him in and play him forward to exploit Port for height up. -

Fair enough. And it'll be Jones' last deal, otherwise we're in a world of pain. -

Didn't Terlich get a two year deal at the end of last year? Inexplicably... -
No, it wasn't. There was one kick that just flopped off the boot at half back, under absolutely no pressure. It dribbled over the line in front of a waiting MFC player.

I think they are both contracted. I'd pay them out if we think we can replace them with better players. I reckon we might be able to. Particularly, Terlich. -

I'd still be delisting Terlich, Matt Jones and Rohan Bail. But the latter two might be given a pass of there isn't a better alternative. At least, they're both prepared to run and harass opponents. Bail doesn't get enough of it for mine. -
Could we play Pedo, Jesse and Dawes in the one forwardline?
-
So I watched the replay for a second time last night and I owe Jack Grimes an apology. He made one or two errors, but he played a very solid game. Well done, Jack.

To be fair to the CFC board (as much as it pains me to say), I doubt this was the vision Malthouse sold them on. I'd say he said the list was in better shape than in actuality. Now the board seems to want to cut their losses and get in someone that will be there for the long haul. I can see the value in that, but I can also see the value in having Mick do a Roosy. Rebuld the list and then leave it for someone else to run with. Not sure how his ego would handle that though. And it doesn't particularly matter, but for me, Malthouse was finished in his last season at Collingwood.

Toumpas certainly uses the ball better. Not sure if that's what this thread is about though.

Okay, so we've won 3 games, but there was a bit of swagger in regards to the way we went about things against the Dogs. Namely from J Hogan, but a few others were strutting around by the end of it. As long as their heads remain fastened, I like a bit of arrogance. The big clubs have arrogance. Would love to have some of that back.

Fair enough. I think there are still far too many (5 to 6) D to C graders on our list. We need to start replacing them with B graders at the very least. Agree about one A grader though, if we can manage it. I also think you'll find that Howe will be traded if the price is right. He still only does one thing and that is mark. -
Well the second one is shithouse and sexist, so maybe the first one?

There were two patches for me that were ordinary. Ten minutes in the middle of the first quarter, where they got two easy goals. Neither should have happened. We also gave up too many shots on goal during this period. Fortunately, the Dogs wasted their chances. The other really poor patch came in the last 5 to 10 minutes of the third, where we conceded 5 out of 6 goals. Not a perfect match by any stretch of the imagination, which is exciting, it shows how much more improvement is in this team just this year. The other thing it highlights is that if you play your role and you do all the team things well, you'll win most weeks. I'm sure Roos was vindicated by this factor.

Well, we're going to be going nowhere then. We need to keep improving the list every year. In fact, every club needs to do that every year, otherwise they risk falling behind. Col's a far more influential player when he plays instinctively. I just wonder whether he'll ever have the freedom to do that under Roos (and rightfully so). Spot on, mate. Very versatile. Can play on tall or small, can break the lines and isn't a bad kick. -

Yeah, I reckon he will. Particularly, once we've won our 6-8 games. -
I hope it doesn't mean he'll lose any pace.

He gets a three year deal, IMO. -

I think we'll see six go from the main list. Bail, McKenzie, Jamar, M Jones, Terlich and Howe to be traded. Grimes will probably get a one or two year deal on very little cash. At least, that's how I'd play it. -
Yeah, touch and go. Watched the replay again tonight. Who knows with the bloody tribunal.
-
I reckon he's closer to Chapman, but I can certainly see the Rooke comparisons too.
-
Dunn was ordinary.Edit. That said, just noticed on the replay he was playing Crameri, so maybe he was alright. I'd just prefer him to take the game on more.
-
Agreed. And we worried them out of a lot of disposals or cheap hit up kicks, just by harassing and not necessarily tackling.
