Resilience - MFC Players V MFC Supporters (Merged Thread)
praha replied to baysidedave's topic in Melbourne Demons
It's a double edged sword: if he says the club is negative, he turns his staff on him, sponsors away, etc etc. If he says the fans are negative...well, none of us are going to stop going to the football, are we? There IS a veil of negativity from fans. Case in point: myself and Demonland. Let's not pretend like we're a beacon and hope. And I never saw him say we're not justified in being negative. -
Carlton landed Judd despite winning the spoon and finishing last 3 times over the past 5 seasons. If the price and conditions are right, you can land anybody.
-
You'd think Viney would be ahead of Brayshaw. Knowing our luck, Brayshaw will turn into Brock McLean.
-
All players part of the club on 186 with the exception of McDonald should be moved on.
-
You don't need to apply pressure to Melbourne. Melbourne applies pressure to itself. There could seriously be less than 10,000 people at this game. Great fixturing by the league to have Melbourne vs GWS, two sides certain to miss the finals at the start of the year, playing at Etihad late on a Sunday in the final round of the year.

Some serious questions asked about Paul Roos ...
praha replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Oh dear, that's going to be a lot of players. I'm skeptical of revolutionary change because it generates instability. It's too erratic. Jamar M Jones Terlich Grimes Riley Garland Howe Dunn Bail They will either be at another AFL club or in the VFL or amateur leagues. If you chop them you need to bring in depth and role models. Problem is that the gap was too big and, really, this off-season will be part 2 of the rebuild. Fmd. -
Fremantle could field a week's worth of Ross Lyon's turds and we'd still lose.
-
The on-field season has been a failure. 8 wins was a pass and of course we can still make it but won't. If you consider the off-season as past of the broader 2015 season, then our drafting and signings have been good. H has been a disappointment but apart from that, Brayshaw, VB, ANB, Stretch, Garlett have all been good, although as with the rest of the team the second half has been poor for those players. Performance: F Drafting: B+ Free agents and trades: C+ Overall: D+

Better than what they are? The issue is most definitely that they think they're worse than what they are. Not better.

Some serious questions asked about Paul Roos ...

My problem with Jones is he's just a key component of the best and absolute worst of Melbourne. I actually think we could benefit from giving him a fresh start elsewhere. I don't believe he has a willingness to win and I think he epitomises the losing culture. How many midfield pieces have we added in the last few years? I truly believe we will linger in neutral until he and a few others are moved on Not necessarily bad players, just the club's "losers". I think all parties involved would benefit. -
Well they can't move the whole team on... Jones, Watts, Grimes, Garland, Dunn should all be put up for trade. It should be a KPI for Roos and the list management team to trade all of them. Their ineffectiveness during a match drives the rest of the team. I seriously think a team led by Vince, Brayshaw, Hogan, VB, Petracca, McDonald, Salem is infinitely more attractive than the current boys club from the Bailey and Daniher years. Look at the Bulldogs. Seriously, if there aren't major changes and legitimate talent brought in, then you have to question the viability of the club has a whole if it can't attract players.

If Roos doesn't seek or entertain trades for Jones, Dunn, Garland, Watts and Dawes, then I'll really question him. We can't move on with losers leading the club. Move them all on. -
Lol no he won't. Will be down the bottom so long as he's captain.

I didn't go to the Essendon win in 2012. I actually chose a booty call over it, which turned out to be a bad choice for two reasons... Anyway, after missing that game I promised myself that I'd stick with the club and go to every game in Melbourne when I could, because I wanted to be there for the special wins. I've missed a few this year because of work but they were all loses. But yesterday was it for me. I'm not going to a game again until we string 3 wins in a row together. I have a right to jump on the bandwagon whenever I want. I was in Geelong for 186 and I have been completely disenchanted since, but I have seen the corner and waited for the club to turn it. It hasn't. I could never support another team but Melbourne has made me hate AFL. I am not until it says at least "LLWWW" under "Last 5" on the ladder. They're not getting my time or money anymore. I need a tangible product to buy in to.

Our senior players and Leadership - Pathetic!

I actually wouldn't be surprised if Jones asks for a trade ala Griffin. Tbh I think it would be best for both parties. -
They are not unskilled. They are uncommitted.

Forget about an apology from the club. My poor girlfriend, grew up in France and Singapore in her later high school year, is now a diehard supporter. I was in Germany two weeks ago and she went to the North game alone. I'm in Seoul now and she went today, alone. She left at half-time. I actually apologise to her. What have I introduced her to?
-
Forget about what I remember. The past is the past. What's sad is that I have forgotten what it feels like to go to a game genuinely confident and EXPECTING to win. Last time was around 2006. It's nine seasons. BTW, as it stands, we are the worst performing club of all teams with the exception of the expansion clubs over the past 10 years, and the second worst club over the past 20 years. Can you believe that? 20! We made six finals series in that time. That's how bad the past 9 seasons have been.

I'm sorry, but it's not rocket science to get a person up and running at elite fitness. This is not a Misson problem. Looking for one scapegoat is not the answer. It's a broader cultural problem and until those that epitomise that culture are gone,it will persist. We can't keep killingthe careers of innocents who have no control over things like effort and desire.

Truly an indictment on the league. I called the Geelong win an anomaly and we have been shocking since, with the Collingwood game the exception. The Brisbane game was awful and had we played them today they'd have won by 10 goals. Just look at how they dismantled Carlton. We are still the worst "team" in the league. Anyone that's been at the club pre-2010 should be moved on asap.

Our senior players and Leadership - Pathetic!
praha replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
He goes through the motions and always has. Best player for 8 years by a mile yet struggled to crack top 100 in AFL. Has fumbled the leadership this year at a time when we needed him to take his game to another level. I think this year shows he's just not all that good. He was the air freshner in a shitty, dirty toilet. -
Hold the phone...the fans that said they'd walk away after 10 years of crap are interested now that the players care?
-
He did it a few times last year and this year, though. Talking about how there was obvious a tendency to regress into old ways as a product of being shot from the last few years. When he said that everyone was down his throat. He tows the line because he plays it safe. What's to gain from blasting the players in public? I thought saying the players were already in Bali last week was an attack on the playing group, and it hasn't worked. 186 is still a lingering psychosis on the playing group. All those involved should be moved on. Otherwise we will stay in neutral and continue doing this.

Or if they didn't train well.
