Gee our players get pushed off the ball, held, taken high, nothing. They get absolute gimmies.
-
We're as dominating now as they were in the first.
-
They get weak frees.
-
Get stuffed, Melbourne. After that first half you start the second half like this?
-
Jones running forward, had space, could have kicked a goal...handpasses.
-
Just left.

[censored]. You need to finish strongly. Finals or not. So much depends on it. So many variables. Free agents. Members. Sponsors. You can't just fold because the season means something. You're always playing for something.

12 months ago, Footscray looked destined for years in the wilderness. Lost experience and gained little in return. They play to win and don't look for excuses. Genuine flag threat the way they play. Body language of Dunn, Jones, Howe, Jetta is defeatist and disgraceful. Until they are all gone, we will be average.

Put him on ice.

Can we saw the same about Spencer or nah?

Brisbane Lions Consider Asking for Priority Picks
praha replied to The Song Formerly Known As's topic in Melbourne Demons
Granted there's little transparency as to what qualifies as a big contract, but historically, anything $600,000+ equates to band one. Of course. Why would anyone pay $600k for him? My point being that if someone is prepared to pay overs for him, that would dictate the compo. If his value is high then his age is irrelevant. If someone had offered Ablett $600,000 last year when he was 30, would that have brought down the band compensation? I'm not putting the two players in the same league but salary is the only objective way we can value a player's worth to a team. That's why the AFL uses it to determine compensation. -
Great news.

Or maybe he's a contract player, playing for his next contract at a Melbourne team? I suspect he never wanted to be in Brisbane from the start. Yeah, he's lifted quite a bit in Brisbane, but the gap between his best and worst is pretty big. And he's always injured. No thanks. At 29 I'd rather continue to develop Spencer. Gawn is set now.

Brisbane Lions Consider Asking for Priority Picks

That is not how compensation works. It's relative to the worth (salary) of the player and finishing position of the club. Salary determines band. If it's the highest band, the team gets a pick straight after their first pick. In Brisbane's case it'll be pick 2. Astonishing that people still don't understand that. You can only value a player on the worth of their salary. That determines their value. Higher the salary, higher the worth. Anything else is subjective. -
Throw everything at him. Let him live out in Geelong. Buy him a car and pay his fuel. Pay him extra to spy at Cats training. 5 years, $5 million frontloaded so he gets 1.5-2 in the first few years.

Average footballer that personifies the Melbourne of 2008-2013: 1 great game in every 10, and always injured. IMO we're better placed with Gawn and Spencer.

Please don't make me think of that logo. It makes me throw up in my mouth.

I'm certainly interested in the club's brand. You can ignore it and say it doesn't matter but all clubs are competing for an decreasingly small pool of neutral supporters. Sure, your on-field performance is your BEST branding exercise, but you need an image that stands and represents the club. Think Chicago Bulls, Yankees, etc. Our current logo is ambitious, loud, but outside of people that enjoy and love the club, what does it mean? What does it stand for? I think the emblem on the clash jumper says more than the current logo. You can say a lot without saying much at all. The current logo just tries to throw everything at you and doesn't really give you time to process. I like it but I'm a Melbourne supporter that understands the history. Your logo is often a person's first interaction with the club. Current logo looks like it WANTS to be ageless, classical, memorable. The clash jumper logo is genuinely ageless. It's faultless.

Well, while his cockiness led him to having many a doubter, his personality may be exactly what is needed to get through such a tough time. I'm sure he's a hard worker and working to get back and 100% fit. But it wouldn't be easy to deal with that sort of industry. That sort of personality comes with the good and the bad.

Watched the game last night. Was in transit when it was on so missed it. Would have been there otherwise. Few notes: - Dawes undoubtedly played his best game for the club, and probably his best game since vs Adelaide in 2014 - Tyson was in and out but his decision making was better - Brayshaw's mark, run and goal in the 3rd made me orgasm. He is going to be spectacular. Seems like he needs a rest, though - Viney is having a fantastic second half of the year - Our defensive breakdowns aren't structural or coachable: they're issues that persist among experienced players - Jones has been blanketed by the tag on more occasions this year than on others - Vince's inability to get into the game cost us dearly - Gawns was great but soundly beaten. Great learning game - Jack Grimes and Viv Michie are depth players. We severely miss Kent and Salem - Garlett was disappointingly shallow and lazy. I thought he's been great for most of the year with his second-efforts and forward defense but he was very poor. We needed him to be more involved All in all, I actually thought it was a very enjoyable game. Winnable, but unsurprising they got over us. I thought our experienced players cost us many goals in the first quarter. Quite telling that it's now an issue of how poor our experienced players are, rather than how inexperienced we are. We were let down by 100+ game players on Sunday.

Our record is not great but we match up well. Those two loses last year would have been wins this year. It could go either way but looking at Footscray's form it's hard to tip against them.
-
Can't see Garlett doing that, but Hogan could certainly bag 7 or 8. When was the last time a Melbourne player kicked 10? Was it Lyon in 94?
