Seems like there are seats outside in the AFL Members if you're stuck in the nosebleeds. Fam had reserved seating on level 3 but got seats downstairs.

Hey it's a tough battle with sanity during close games when they're finding a way to lose but thanks for the public service

Stuck "working". In the US for a conference and right now I'm preparing to go out for drinks which means I'll miss the match. I have my international pass though and a US sim with data so I'll be streaming discreetly when I can. What crowd does the MCC predict?
-
We'll win and win well imo. Most confident I've been all year.

Football commentary has been bad since Grybass passed. He was a star. Smart, witty, with a superb football IQ. Knew how to read and call the play without relying on hyperbole and over excitement. Even made boring games enjoyable. BT and Co these days make exciting games a chore to listen to.

Just got into LA. Checked the AFL app and saw Bombers smash Port and Brisbane destroy Freo. We are better than those three and Freo's form suggests Collingwood ain't that flash hot either. We should absolutely smashed them imo. We are top 4 quality imo. Melbourne has to have the lowest average losing margin, surely?

Wagner plays if Watts doesn't get up. Salem for Watts. If Watts plays it's Salem for Wagner. Simples really. Suspect JKH will come in for Bugg regardless.

I don't need to read The Age to hate myself. I work in creative industries. I'm reminded every day about how I've ruined civilisation. Being a man is one thing. But white? Game over, man.

Tippet would be a great get at a reasonable price. Would you rather him or Spencer as a backup? He's proven to the league he's no guaranteed starter in a talented team but as a backup he'd be useful. Probably prefer Reid, though.

Sorry I should have been more specific. 35-50 year olds living in East Melbourne, Carlton, Parkville and Albert Park, owner occupier, drive a VW Golf, work in either government or creative industries, earn 150k+ and vote Greens. Nothing wrong with that but it's a small target market. In all honesty though when I was studying I saw research conducted by the MEAA that looked at audience figures and journalists. Journalists were more like to be less than 35, vote Green, white, male, and live inner-city. It's no surprise that papers like The Saturday Paper (which greatly inflates its readership and relies quite a bit on government subsidies) pop up in Collingwood of all places. Imo there is a very clear trend. The Guardian is losing millions. Fairfax is on the brink. Small publishers rely on social justice "gotcha" journalism to amplify their message across social media, enhance reach and maximise profit. You're either tradional and failing, or new age and grubby. The irony of the Age's "independent always" tag is that its self righteousness killed it in an Era of online self gratification.

The Age has been garbage for years. It's bad in a way different to how the Hun is bad, which is tabloid garbage. The Age has been a holier than thou, "do as I say not as I do" rag for a number of years. Appealing to inner city elites tends to alienate your previously working class audience. I didn't mind Rohan but politicizing entertainment and sport stands to be a career killer. Sports coverage in this country is quite bizarre when you compare to the US and even the UK. Age journos appear to blame everyone but themselves. Fairfax management had been fighting an uphill battle for years. It's the only media organisation that hasn't really changed its reporting strategy for the digital age. It's not feasible to pay one journo $60k a year for one article a week. The work output vs value has been killing that company slowly for years. Rohan is probably a symptom of that. His "voluntary" redundancy suggests either they wanted him to take a pay cut or boost his output, neither of which he wanted to do.

Nice one. I remember that Charles goal against WC like it was yesterday. '93 I think it was? They were flag favourites and we were struggling but we smashed them that day. Beat the Bombers as well that year...but lost to Sydney lol Typical Melbourne!

Yes, I know. I was simply highlighting the nature of the situation. Either Melbourne purposefully understated the significance of his injury, or Trenners fluffed it. We know the latter isn't true.

I think that even though we're similarly placed at this point as we were at the same point last year, those above and around us aren't as good. Freo's percentage is shocking and they will drop down, even if they win today and go 2 games ahead. Eagles are incredibly shaky and imo we need to beat them in Perth. They're average imo. Richmond appears set for finals but they can go on long binges of average football. St Kilda still gets belted when they lose, which hurts their percentage. Essendon Collingwood and North aren't playing finals, although Bombers could push. Sydney still worries me but I think them along with the Hawks are shot. We are in the box seat and it would be so disappointing if we missed. We could certainly push and finish top 4. Maybe I have the red and blue tinged glasses on but I can see us finishing ahead of every team in the 8 bar the top 3. How good would it be to go up against GWS first up and beat them in Sydney?

Woey vs Port in 1998? Around 0:32 in.

Martin is a lot smarter than people dare admit and he has an exceptional football IQ. He's a rough around the edges kind of guy but he's a diamond in the rough. The public perception of him is based on media coverage, which is fixated on him due to his appearance and deamonor. He is the complete opposite of the kind of guy his aesthetic projects.

That was weird because the club must have known his status. Either they banked on him passing the medical on any given day, or Trengove fluffed it which is extremely doubtful and not in his character. That said we'd have gotten pick 12 or whatever for him, which would have been AMAZING and a typical Richmond trade. May have been the best for both parties though so in hindsight it's probably sad for Trengove that the trade didn't go through.

This has been long established. I'd love nothing more than to knock them out of the finals.

Origin will never happen. It thrives in Sydney because the NRL is mostly an afterthought, and union and representative rugby reigns supreme. In the AFL, team rivalries and cultural boundaries are much more refined and defined, and the competitiveness is established in the battle for the flag. In Sydney and Qld, it's all about which is the better state. That doesn't exist here. We already have SoO in the form of "Victoria vs everyone else".

Was this against Brisbane in 94?

Salem vs Essendon?

Toumpas is awful. Threw the ball onto the foot and went straight to Hawthorn. His positioning is awful and his teammates blatantly ignore him.

IMO it wasn't even that good a moment, hardly representative of what made the wiz the wiz. It was a free kick in front of goal...hardly "Wiz" material. I get that it was against his former side which gave it preference, but still. He had a number of really great games at Freo, pity that was the one they those to use.

My knowledge of golf starts and ends with Everybody's Golf on PlayStation, which is a fantastic series and one I highly recommend. But anyway, good work OP (I think).
