  1. It does mention Garland here Several players seem to be getting close to being back in the mix. With Sylvia in the mix, Garland progressing well and Bartram, Tapscott close. Those are names that are good to see back on the team list.
  2. This guy has had so much scrutiny over the past few years that I thought a special mention needed to be made. He took another huge step in his development yesterday; second efforts, the way he imposed himself around the ground and the support he offered his team mates were all on show yesterday. He is not only starting to become an excellent member of the team but he is also starting to display first rate leadership qualities. An example was on the city wing when Bate got clobbered over the boundary; Watts was the only one who went in to offer support. Good signs
  3. Clearly my request for levity was not directed at you RPFC,
  4. Oh hear, hear to you, it is becoming hard to read the forum at the moment for the level of depressive malaise that hangs over it. Lighten up, please.
  5. I guess I meant that all the focus has been on his tackle, it goes without saying that it was first class
  6. Firstly, I am as pi55#d off as everyone else by what has happened this week but noting the steam roller that is the AFL tends not to apologise for its [censored] ups at the best of times it is unlikely to happen this time. So I have been reflecting upon the events of last week end and realised that there is a silver lining to Jacks suspension. If our players are being rubbed out for excessive force in tackling it can mean one thing; we are bulking up and starting to assert ourselves on the rest of the competition. Trengove's tackle aside, I thought the intensity of tackling and pressure on the man placed by our fellows last week was first class, Clint Bartram a particular stand out imho. It was like a snapshot into the near future where our big bodied players are going to cast fear into the hearts of our opposition. Keep the body conditioning up, keep the intensity at the contest up and play without fear. This week, do it for Jack, next week just do it! Go Dees
  7. The Skipper was on One Week At A Time on One HD again tonight looking far more relaxed than last week (BTW) They asked him about Scully and he said 3-4 weeks in a pretty positive manner. Hopefully it is the case.
  8. I dropped into training today, the only player missing was Scully; nowhere to be seen
  9. Skipper said: "We need to lift, We need to make a statement next week I need to do more Blah Blah Blah" On a hiding to nothing I guess, at least he showed up
  10. I thought Strauss was 47. any news on his game?
  11. This got me thinking, what was Bye like back in the early part of the 20th Century when there were only 11 clubs. I have done some research and found this team that was going around in the 1919 season B: Waxing moustache/Smoking a pipe/Visiting seaside HB: Sending telegram/Radiogram/Thrashing staff C: Playing with hoop/Penny Farthing/Fisticuffs HF: Starching/ Cod Liver oil/ Snuff F: Visiting a Speakeasy/Motorcar/Talkie 19th Man: Morphine 20th Man: Billie Hughes Interesting line up by todays standards but pretty competitive back in the day.
  12. Thanks Jordie, Great report. Bullet pointing makes for easy reading
  13. Fev is starting to remind me more and more of Paul Gascoigne the English soccer player. He had the world at his feet playing in the top leagues of Europe but couldn't keep his hand off the grog and finished his career after many unsavoury episodes including wife bashing, drunkeness and general public disorder playing in far flung parts of China. In the end he became a train wreck of a fellow who never seemed to acknowledge his weaknesses. These blokes don't have the intestinal fortitute to battle through their weaknesses and it is exascerbated by it all being played out in public.
  14. I would suggest that the perception that we have a better more capable forward line this year makes it easier for him to use the long bomb into the forward 50. It must be difficult kicking into the forward line only to see it come straight back out again as it has in years passed. I can see Beamer and Tapscott using those big kicks to put the ball deep in the forward line for Jurrah, Petterd, Chin, Watts, Aussie, Maric, Bennell and Green to raffle off for a goal.
  15. Soft hack public school players: C Judd C Brown C Rioli J Hendry P Brown T Cordner D Cordner D Cordner To name but a few through the ages - cream puffs the lot of them!
  16. Hi DA, I thought that I had responded, sorry pal. My brother is making good headway with the copying, I will let you know when he is done and you may want to do a swap meet. :)

    Cheers

  17. Hmm, I noticed that too, any insight from anyone?
  18. (The mail arrived today with a letter from the Club for my 6 year old. It is a membership renewal in the style of a fake news paper with several made up articles that have merged my son's name into the text, E.G. "Smith"(not his real name) lets the Demon Out" It describes how Jimmy has backed my son to take the club to another level etc. "People talk of the likes of Scully, Trengove, Watts and Jurrah being the future of our club but we also need to celebrate young Smith." etc. He also gets a mention in the team news alongside TMR, Chip et al as being the X Factor and even gets talked up as a potential captain by Bailey in "Captaincy Whispers". Needless to say, he is totally blown away and I had a great laugh. Every step the club takes seems to be in the right direction and these sorts of membership drives are fantastic. He can't wait for his flashing horns to arrive and I can't wait for the season to start GO DEES!!
  19. Errm, I thought that was the point of this thread
  20. News just in, Mick Malthouse has walked out on the Pies in the middle of the Irish tour to take up the position of Defensive Coach at the Dees.
  21. Hey WJ, Am I deluding myself, I could have sworn that I used to watch Glenn Honey play in the mid 70's in the reserves?
