Ben McKinley, Mark Seaby and Brent Reilly
RalphiusMaximus replied to todd's topic in Melbourne Demons
If the price were good enough it would be worth a look, but they'd have to be going damn cheap. I'd say McKinley is the pick of the bunch, so he'd be the one i'd look at. Maybe they'd take Newton for him? -
Paul Wheatley Mathew Whelan and Russell Robertson

The man who gave us one of the great chase downs to win a turnover in the middle. I'll miss his pace as much as his kicking I think. I was hoping to see him play on for another year, but I can't fault him if he's leaving now. Best of luck wherever the future takes him. -
Retire / Delist - How many and who?
RalphiusMaximus replied to JACKATTACK's topic in Melbourne Demons
You haven't included the entire list on the poll. What if the players I want to get rid of aren't included? Also, do you want us to include possible trade bait in the list? That could radically alter the look of things. -
Don't get too worked up. With the number of players we have out, a win is not going to be easy.

TAC Cup Future Stars Phantom Draft
RalphiusMaximus replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
There was talk earlier in the year of a young guy from NT who was lured down to Casey by Davey. Anyone know who that was or what his draft prospects would be? -
Carlton. What have the saints ever done to us?
-
Awesome news.
-
Damn. This will hurt our turnover count.

I'm more than willing to give Morton some time. Given the way he's been growing, he's still a few years off getting his body sorted out. Once he fills out I think we'll find ourselves with a top line wing/mid something along the lines of Adam Goodes (I admit the comparison comes to mind after seeing him playing on Goodes last week). With his size and running, he could turn into a serious handful for the opposition.

Who is this Hollow of whom you speak?
-
Actually, if you look at the young guys who have yet to play with us and the ones we hope to get in this draft, we're pinning our hopes on 8-12. If even half of these kids show us what we hope they will we're going to have a seriously good side. Our current midfielders will be struggling to find a spot in that lineup. Miller and Newton will be gone. The only real weakness might be the ruck, but if Spencer works out that may be taken care of already.

Hope we see Buckley play. He's exciting, good to watch and prone to messing up. Just what we need.

Rohan Bail likely for Sunday's game
RalphiusMaximus replied to ChannellingHopgoodAgro's topic in Melbourne Demons
Seconded. Maybe they think he's too good and are saving him for next season? -
Who would you choose with our #2 draft pick?
RalphiusMaximus replied to cooko's topic in Melbourne Demons
I like the look of Trengrove, but i'd be very worried about the go home factor. I would be looking very hard at options to keep him in Melbourne for a long time, knowing that two teams would be moving heaven and earth to lure him back to Adelaide the moment his contract was up. There is no way we would be getting what we gave for him in trade, especially if he left after only two years. That being said, the descriptions of his playing style, in particular the notion that he is a player who can lift and drag his whole team up with him, are very encouraging. Quite a few people have compared him to Ricciuto, and that is never a bad thing. -
I rather liked hearing during the Sydney game that Jurrah had been in the National Draft after all, and nobody noticed. :D
-
Next step is to throw Bail in as FF for a couple of weeks to see if he can play like Brad Johnson.

If we manage to avoid the dreaded >16 points, yes, we will well and truly deserve the PP. Congratulations to DB on somehow getting us out of what could have been another Port Adelaide result. Keep up the good work Coach.
-
I don't know why people are worried. The PP is doing exactly what it is designed to do. I don't doubt that the notion of clubs not wanting to win was discussed when it was first tabled. The reality is that if clubs do decide on that route (and we know they do) it's really not that big a deal. They will get their top picks for a year or two, then move up the table into premiership contention, clearing the way for the next team to bottom out. We are already talking about our premiership tilt in 3-4 years. Carlton (the tank team before us) are planning on being there in the next few as well. The system is working perfectly in allowing teams to rebuild and in preventing any one team from dominating for too long.

Thankyou Essendon Football Club.
RalphiusMaximus replied to LeBron James's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes, the Bombers have certainly done us a couple of huge favours. Perhaps it's a square-up for the 2000 GF? -
I'll be happy enough with either Trengrove or Butcher as our second pick. Both have a lot to recommend them. Or even that pacy little red-headed guy from Vic. What's his name?
-
Honestly, he didn't seem that good to me. Sure he has pace, but what else? He's selfish, can't make his tackles stick and his preferred inside fifty ball is an up-and-under to the goal mouth. Well, if the footage was an accurate representation of his game. Jetta, that is.
-
Short answer to your question: No. Long answer: He rightly decided that taking the contact was only going to result in another stoppage (which is Sydney's strength) and tried to take the ball and slip past the opponent. Had the ball not taken an off break he would have pulled it off and we'd all be singing his praises. Yes, he would have been better off keeping over the ball until he was sure it was in his hands, but that's a problem most of our list is having these days. Personally I'm thrilled to see a first year player with so much promise in our side.

Can someone please confirm for me:
RalphiusMaximus replied to Grand New Flag's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes, but that PP at the end of the first round still has an impact on our opportunities. Better to have them win one more and be right out of the picture. If Freo finish without another win, they get a PP at the end of the first round. I'd prefer that their second pick came after our second round pick. Just to be sure they don't pinch a good prospect from us. -
Can't argue with that, but I think they'd be insane to recruit Hall. He's not interested anymore and is a good chance to be suspended for at least part of the year. Aside from the Hall factor, I still think that Newton would fit in well with them. He's a good age for them, has good mobility, and would benefit from the supply they can give him. The only issue is whether they could fix what's wrong between his ears. I don't look at him as in the same league as Hall, but he may be someone they are willing to take a punt on for a low pick.

So once again, the best possible result for us is to not win another game. That knocks Freo out of the priority picks as well, maximizing our chances of picking up quality talent.
