The Game Plan - It seems to be working
jnrmac replied to Its Time for Another's topic in Melbourne Demons
Beveridge implemented a game plan in 1 summer. We have taken 3 years. Their list was not vastly different to ours. Even Bolton at Carlton has them playing in a style which is recognisable after 1 summer. I don't buy McCartney did all the hard work. They were a basket case. -
Probably need to define what elite means first....everyone seems to have a differnet view of what it means.

Jack Watts wouldn't get a game at Hawthorn claims Dwayne
jnrmac replied to KysaiahMessiah's topic in Melbourne Demons
Watts has in the past run hard on the lead and been ignored after multiple leads. That in part stems from our slow ball movement and lack of confidence. He is a beneficiary of the new trust and confidence in each other and the quicker ball movement. He has also improved his contested work markedly. Only a complete spud like Der Wayne would disagree. Years ago I wrote to 3AW saying that I would never listen to their footy show while he was on it. He was filling in after David Hookes died. I never have and urge others to do the same, -

It's footy. Not a science degree. -
Nah its not. Scoring is much lower in finals for a start.

FFS Kyle CHeney got a game. Even Jack Fitzpatrick has gotten a game. DerWayne is the biggest k-nob in media. Half the Hawthrn coaching staff are from Melbourne. We do alright.... And they would jump at someone with Jack's skills. -
Not sure what you're saying here. There were 288 contested possessions last week . I would say that winning one on ones is more vital than ever.

And yet again it shows where stats are completely stuffed. Since 1896 there have been 3 drawn GFs 3 divided by 119 is a 2.5% chance......... Remind me again how many 100 year floods they have had in Queensland in the past 10 years?? About 5.

Imagine a 50m penalty and a kick from the goal square? Imagine a score review if the ball appears to have hit the point post? There are so many scenarios they wouldn't have thought of. A disaster waiting tp happen.

I'm not sure it takes 3 years to implement. -
When it works it looks great BUT it relies on our players hitting their targets and turnovers can kill you. We were running well ahead of the ball on the weekend and that is built on trust and confidence so its nice to see our players are beginning to trust each other and have confidence that their teammate will win the footy and deliver it...

Is learning defence. Not doing badly, just not the 25 possession player we want him to become. Will be left in the team as he is too important long term.
-
No-one (or very few) plays 100% these days. So he's almost playing a full game you'd say. Probs won't get picked for the Toiges but will go close for week after.

Jeremy has done us a favour. We should thank him. In fact we should thank $cully, Clark and $ylvia as well. They have all done us favours.

Thanks Mrs Jones ha ha

Yeah, I was winging that one. Didn't work did it? The others are midgets tho...

You must have been watching a different game to me.
-
So I assume you will write her a full apology when it comes true?

Just watched the replay and Wagner was very solid. Very cool for a 2nd gamer. Hunt did some good things as well. Not overawed by the occasion. A lot to like about our young brigade.

No love for Gawn...

OK thx

Is that right? I thought I saw Harmes give Taylor a shove over the bounday line and he took exception to it. Came back and there was a push and shove. Harmes went down because pendlebury gave him a solid bump after he tapped the ball on. Unless of course I am mixing up two separate incidents??
-
He was flattened. Went off for a concussion test. Was peeved at having to go off as it is a minimum 20 mins off the ground. No concussion and came back on.

BB was making this point but I guess we don't know what the coaches are telling various players and how they are performing against those instructions. Clearly they saw Wagner as having attributes they wanted even if to us it appeared he hadn't 'earned' selection. I was surprised they played him on Waites as he has been very damaging in the past and his game on the weekend against the pies was a revelation. Didn't look out of place, was creative and played defensively when he had to.

Maybe it will take a few games for him to change his mindset. If he can't attack he has no place IMO.
