Great news. Good opportunity for a company to get on board with a rising team that has a lot of media exposure...

He'll hear a lot more of the Dees song in coming years...

Agree we are still weak on leaders but I think there is a fine difference with attitiude and effort. I though the effort was fine on the weekend. I suspect what Goody was referring to was the attitude about where we position ourselves, how we run to position, adhering to structures and game plan. It clearly fell down on the weekend and has at times during other games.

Did it a lot this year at the start of games would start with 7 or 8 at centre square bounces

Kelly would be a great pick up. The question is the value. Yes you have to pay up to get silk but IMO its really important not to upset the whole TPP situation. If we do get into a window of success we will need a lot of negotiationg room for our current crop.

Don't disagree but how many of those big trades have been successful? Trades like Mummy to GWS and Lake, Burgoyne or Frawley to Hawthorn seem to have more success than the Judd's or Buddy's. They are less disruptive to the playing list and salary cap. To match the price touted for Kelly would stuff us for years in terms of salary cap and player payment 'relativity'. And while he's good he is no game changer yet, IMO.

I think that is clutching at straws. The Boyd deal is in a category all of its own and he was pretty much useless in the lead up to the GF - and pretty much since. Yes he had a great game but I am talking Dangerfield, Buddy, Buckley etc. These deals cripple clubs generally. You'd be better with a Rory Laird / Elliott Yeo type - just below A grade but very solid and 1/3 as much as a Kelly.

Remind me how many have won flags chasing a fish and a pay packet like that? Kelly has all the goods but is still relatively unproven. He plays in a team of champions so its hard to get a form line sometimes.

Someone should take Hodge out. He's an animal. Will never forget crunching Wingard's (I think it was) head into the goalpost with his hip...

They do get credited with a score assist if they touch it and it results in a goal...

Did you leave Hibberd out because it will make your numbers look less compelling?

Questionable effort OR overcooked handballing
jnrmac replied to spirit of norm smith's topic in Melbourne Demons
No its easy to counteract. 1. Pressure our players and they will turn it over because we overpossess it 2. Have 2 spare men in defence as we will bomb it in long. -
Don't ususally agree with Wallace but he is on to something. I said at the start of the season our defence is our biggest problem and it still is. We need a big reliable KP backman that can distribute the ball efficiently and make sound decisions. I suspect the coaches thought Melksham, Hibberd, Salem, Jetta, Frost and Hunt would be able to distribute the ball but it's not working well yet. We still leak groups of goals really easily. Tom I think has actually improved but still has at least 5 or 6 disposals that put his teamates under extreme pressure. He is a great intercept mark but that disposal..... Oscar just isn't there yet. May well get there but he is being iosolated one on one and found out at the moment.

Questionable effort OR overcooked handballing
jnrmac replied to spirit of norm smith's topic in Melbourne Demons
We saw players like Hunt and Frost grab the ball and their first instinct was to run 3-5 paces at full speed to 'break the lines' That movement opens up the whole play. Guys like Dangerfield do it all the time. Their first instinct is to run to space and then dish off or continue running. Its the opposite of what we did in the first half. -
Questionable effort OR overcooked handballing

Effort's fine. Our smarts are appalling. Saw Oliver receive a Hb in the back pocket as he was streaming forward. Instead of kicking it his instinct was to HB backwards to a stationary player. WTF? -
1. I noticed that we continually crowd the ball. Way too many around the contest. Hence when we win it we handball to a player that is .5m away and generally stationary. In contrast the Hawks positioned their players much further away so that when we won contested posession (which the Hawks have never been good at and don't really rate it as a stat) we flick it out and guess what? There are Hawk players ready to pounce and run away with it. It happened time and time again and was exemplified by Hunt's chase/tackle and Salem running in close to 'assist' but finding the Hawk player had got the ball out to Salem's opponent. 2. As for the 4/5 flying for the ball in the backline it was frustrating in the extreme. 3. Oppo teams also know that we handball too much and in the 4th qtr the Hawk tackle stats went through the roof. They knew that if they pressured us and stopped our run we would turn it over. We duly obliged. In short we are still playing dumb football and our leaders need ton control what happens out on the ground much more.

Goodwin's move at the half were great. TMac back to defend, Hunt to the fwd line. Burgoyne was very good today and physical. The number of times we had 3 and 4 defenders flying for the ball to spoil was abysmal.
-
The Hawks were a man down on interchamges from the 1st qtr. Didn't seem to impede them Our defence leaks too many goals. They took too many uncontested marks in their fwd line. Roughead must be getting special dispensation from the umpires. They gifted him 3 goals today.

What do you want him to do? Presidents are best not seen or heard. Just do your job behind the scenes....

Do you really think they selected Hogan so he can play on Frawley? I have now heard everything. -

Would like to see this again on the weekend Still my favourite piece of play. One handed against a 3 time premiership player. Impressive -
The queues on game day can be quite large so best to do it online and print off ticket at home.

Totally different roles. Not a like for like comparison.
