  1. From the article on the Melbourne FC website "Melbourne will now add more than $9m to its balance sheet. These assets are offset by $1.8m of debt taken over and $1.2m in gaming machine entitlement obligations. But in a net sense the improvement on the balance sheet will be at least $6m." "It is important to point out that the projections we have done for our gaming operations indicate that the debt assumed under the merger can be repaid from the profits of the venues - not from any other activities of the club." It's hard to see a downside to any of that.
  2. Just as a matter of interest, how does everyone see a face to face with Bailey being orchestrated at the time? From memory the media where already all over Stynes, Mclardy and the board members. What would have happened if Stynes & co had rocked up at Bailey's joint? or if they all turned up at the G/bubble dome? I would have thought that the phone call would have been the most practical and, from a certain point of view, sensitive way to break the news to Bailey at the time. To do so face to face would have been an absolute media circus.
  3. I don't know if anyone's noticed Eade's comments on Green in the Herald Sun Coach Rodney Eade said Green was a unanimous choice. "I think Brad's experience at the game is one (reason)," Eade said. "Two, he's obviously captain of an AFL club and has done that exceptionally well. "And then you can see the rapport he's got with the players as well - his communication skills are terrific." Post season we've heard from a few of the players praising Green's leadership. But it's also nice to hear that same priase from some outside the club.
  4. "AUSTRALIAN international rules coach Rodney Eade says he had no hesitation in cutting Colin Sylvia from his squad once it emerged that the Melbourne midfielder had been drinking on Saturday night." From the AFL website Pretty disappointing considering how enthusiastic he seemed.
  5. He's probably my favourite player. But more for his golfing prowess than anything else.
  6. No. They're making it out as grudge match because Hammer came to us. I just thought that out of the parties involved it would be Freo that would have the biggest grudge with us. But yes, the Freo v Stk game completely dwarfs all that. Looking forward to a bit of biff from that game.
  7. "Casey might not have far to look for Brad Gotch’s replacement, with Melbourne player resources manager Craig Lees a leading candidate." From the Herald Sun I've no idea on Lees experience or background. Anyone got an insight? I remember reading when we hired Gotch that CC was in charge of the appointment. Do we know who's looking for the coach this time?
  8. Is this a case of the AFL making something out of nothing? I would have thought us playing the Dockers would have been more of a grudge match.
  9. Do we have to, or do we need to? I thought we only had to make 3 list changes?
  10. Looks like we've added a few more tatts to our collection. Well done Dees. Welcome Mitch.
  11. You can't really blame Melbourne for having a crack. We were being proactive and oportunistic and that should be seen as a huge positive. Clark wants to return home for personal reasons, he doesn't take money. He should be admired for that. So we didn't get the big fish this time. To have a realistic chance we should have been showing our interest from a long way back, but with our coaching and personnel changes this just wasn't a possibility. I'd like to think that at the very least we're starting to turn heads. We're serious about recruiting players. And serious players should be seriously considering us. BTW why am I up at 4.30 in the morning?
  12. Not sure if it's been posted already. But there's a Clark article on the Freo site.
  13. A part of me (the MFCSS part) is saying "typical, not only will we not land anyone, but we'll get shafted as well!" The other part is saying "I see him do one or two good things per game and then disappears. No biggy!"
  14. I'm starting to think that maybe it's not a bad idea that we don't get a mini draft pick and have to deal with GWS. This whole trade week scenario so far seems absurd. GC Suns have at least come into the competition with some integrity. GWS so far have none.
  15. The rules state that GWS have four selections over 2 years that they are able to trade. I thought that's why they were likely to trade 2 this year and 2 next year?
  16. The rules are there to prevent GWS from not trading the picks and using them for themselves. The rules don't state that GWS can't trade them out and then back again. GWS motives are completely contrary to "the vibe" of the rules. I'm sure they know that, but couldn't care less.
  17. If Crouch, or any of the others, doesn't go in the mini draft this year then they'll be eligible for the National Draft next year. Next year they'll be a whole new bunch of 17 year olds to pick from in the mini draft.
  18. I thought the AFL had advised clubs some week ago in regards to the TPP. But according to The Age it was today.
  19. The clubs have recently been told what the TPP is going to be. It hasn't gone down well with the AFLPA from what I'm aware.
  20. I must admit I thought that Lionel Ritchie was going to be a bit of a joke last year. He proved me wrong and really was a good pick. But Meatloaf was horrid. I heard/read someone say "No amount of gravy in the world could make that meatloaf any good". If we're going to throw money at ageing acts (presumable to try to appeal to everyone?) surely we've got some great old Australian acts that could do the job.
  21. Jack Jack thinks you've been hanging around RPFC too much! It's hard to tell how significant Green's leadership is off field. But from an onfield perspective he seemed to be more concerned with his own form than being a true onfield leader. Or maybe it was just the occasional selfish passages of play that has tarnished my opinion of his leadership.
  22. There's a video on DeeTV of Cam Schwab. He explains some of the AFL's process and what it means to MFC. Interesting and worth a look.
  23. Green is on the veterans list and as such it only taking up an extra rookie spot. I see no reason why we wouldn't contract him for at least another 2 years.
