Like I said it was a text but I believe it is true. Beamer is very passionate wouldn't surprise me if he was very [censored] off at Brock for leaving... -

Just got a text from a mate who was there apparently Brent Moloney acceptance speech: "there are great things happening and if you don't want to be here on this line then you can fack off to Carlton!" -
Will the tanking cheapen any future success?
Johnny Karate replied to Nasher's topic in Melbourne Demons
We've won 14 of the last 71 matches. We deserve a priority. It's not as if we're all of a sudden excellent and could easily succeed without a pp and are just throwing games. -
Fork, You raise some very good points that I completely agree with - I guess the point of these forums is to vent emotionally about the club we love. In short he's been a great player who will leave us with a lot of happy memories, however to think he is past it and to support the club's decision to drop him is not moronic Bbv...
-
He doesn't deserve a game - he is past it. After all he has done for the club? Spare me - Plugger Lockett should've played for the Swans today using that logic. It is a moronic call to say we should trade Robbo because we'd get nothing for him - his career is over. Jack Grimes is better than Johnstone. Jolly couldn't get a game for us when Jeff White was AA ruckman and Whopper Walsh was on par with fringe dwellers Godfrey, Ward, Read and Rigoni.

If we got pick #152 in the ND for him I would take it.
-
Benefit of hindsight but I'm quite frustrated looking at the uncontracted players for 09 vs 010. Keeping Bell/Newton ahead of names like Buckley, Miller, Wona makes me feel ill.

A common ailment..good @VFL.. wanting @AFL
Johnny Karate replied to beelzebub's topic in Melbourne Demons
Newton - I'd keep purely as depth next year would be make or break IMO. Bell - a list clogger, one from the Daniher era who never really cemented a position Dunn - see Bell (these guys could be good AFL players in the right team IMO but realistically we would get FA at the trade table for them) Johnson - kind of like Newton he should keep his spot for next year due to lack of players of his size on the list. Newton is unfulfilled potential whereas Johnson is a battler, decent depth option. Buckley - I've seen enough to suggest he can make it as an AFL player - definitely keep Hughes & Zomer - have never played AFL (Zomer is in VFL 2's so I would say he's gone), the FD must see something in Hughes to persist with him for so long. Both are rookie listed so overall have no bearing on the senior list and we can't trade them. Wheatley - average footballer who seems to get a hell of a lot of plaudits given the amount of [censored] players like Bruce cop on this forum. I'd keep Dunn before him, Godfrey played with more intensity. Valenti - again rookie listed, decent footballer IMO but Jones, McLean & Moloney are better - could play good footy elsewhere. In short we'd get nothing for these players at the trade table - I'd persist with Newton and Johnson but wouldn't be crying myself to sleep if all went at seasons' end. I'll worry about icing on the cake after we've developed some genuine stars. -
2009 NAB U-18 National Champs @ Etihad Stadium
Johnny Karate replied to cooko's topic in Melbourne Demons
I suspect we're two peas in a pod on this issue H. (Albeit in different forums under different names) Any one of Trengove, Morabito, Lucas and even Butcher will make fine AFL players, so should the Dees choose against my current wishes on draft day I've no qualms about that. To my mind we've already got a bonfide in Scully - let's be greedy, take a risk and get another matchwinner in Morabito. Christ knows after years of [censored] between 65-86 and the mid table mediocrity since, people like yourself who've continued following the club deserve nothing less than a ruthless (sometimes risk taking) approach to attaining a premiership. -
Saw him on Wednesday he played mainly down back. Nothing special IMO he seemed to lack pace, his disposal was ok and he didn't really impose himself on the game. But maybe he had an off day it was only one game. He's still our scholarship player maybe worth a rookie selection.

Johnny Karate replied to cooko's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'd go with Scully and Morabito. What was evident with Butcher on Wednesday is (like any other KPF) he's going to struggle when the midfield's getting beat. We have the worst midfield in the comp by a mile; we are slow, reactive, get smashed at clearances and don't hurt sides offensively. Let's fix it. Trengove should be a good player but honestly feel Grimes is a similar type - in short he may only be a slight upgrade on the types of mid we already have on our list. Morabito has the potential to be a star, a Goodes type game breaker. -
Everyone's head would be close to the chopping block after the past two games - I would say the only players completely safe are Frawley, Johnson (default), Sylvia, Green, Moloney, Bruce (default again), Davey and Jurrah Newton, Dunn, Valenti, McNamara have performed well at Casey and would be close to an AFL call up. Jones, Warnock, McDonald (default x3) and Jamar will walk into the side if fit. Strauss, Maric, Spencer and Petterd would all be pretty close to getting in also. If it was my call (& no injuries hindered): In: Warnock, Jones, Newton, Maric, Jamar Out: Miller, Robertson, Rivers, Whelan, Johnson
-
Jones has had his best season thus far he is getting the hard ball, not getting caught as much and his disposal (bar r9) has been improving rapidly. Only a putrid opportunist or someone who hasn't watched a game would advocate his dropping.
-
Wanganeen was captain of port for a while. I was disappointed when McLean didn't get it last time, that said McDonald was an excellent choice in the end. I'd like either one of Green or Moloney after Macca.

Melb North Melb Merger discussion
Johnny Karate replied to Dreamin' Demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
Agree with this. But also think it's a little ironic that he suggests this when it was his administration that signed off on [censored] stadium deals that didn't benefit the vic clubs at all. The Melbourne Kangaroos wouldn't work at all, I think close to 90% of North supporters wouldn't have a bar of it. Many of the people on this forum wouldn't have a bar of it. Rather than a superclub it would probably create a superbasketcase. -
Bell shouldn't and hopefully wont come in. He is a list clogger. I love his ticker and workrate but he is simply not up to AFL standard.
-
No changes
-
I agree. Yes they've been poor possibly worse than us but in reality neither of us have won a flag which is what counts. I don't want to laugh at other clubs because they are 'worse' than us - I want to take pride in my club being better than the rest.
-
If I were Freo I'd hang on to him. They'll probably finish last this year and have a top two pick as well as another two selections at the end of round 1 at the draft table anyway. A lot can change between now and then but I don't think any other club will give up another decent early pick for Pav. He provides them with leadership and experience and is a guy they can build a side around. Freo should focus on getting rid of dead wood duds like Headland, Tarrant etc to free up spots on their list and rebuild with youth via this draft. The wildcard in all this is GC17 if they offer up a top 10 pick in 2010 for Pav Freo should look at it but for now they should endure.

If I must go through my in depth philosophies on why player x is inferior to Brock I will at your request. But I made my summation based on what I see - on field leadership and media profile. How is that not identifying traits? If you think they are beyond criticism at all in these areas without going into specifics I'd say you're in a minority. But for your benefit... Bruce to my mind often goes missing when things get tough and we need him to stand up, Green and Macca are very quiet in the media. Quite frankly I don't think Brad Miller is a good enough player and we don't have the depth of leadership and experience at our club at this point in time to have a Vandenberg style captaincy. All are in the tail end of their career and if they are still around they will be merely icing on the cake during our next premiership tilt. Brock fits Bailey's core of 23 and under group. Whoever is chosen as captain will have my support regardless of my views now. You asked for an opinion by starting a poll and attacked me for my critical yet not unfair views based on what I see. That's why I was worked up. I don't really see how my sig is relevant - I used to be named Slander on this forum, wtf = who the f. If you want to take out some sort of legal action based on what I've said - be my guest. Until then it's not Slander. I'm sure our next captain will do a good job.
-
Your comprehension must be [censored] poor to interpret that out of my post. I said "from what I see". I did not say shortcomings. I said "from what I see" Brock covered all three aspects better than anybody else mentioned. For example the other four are relatively mute in the media, I know for example McDonald and Green are pretty shy but Bruce and Miller don't say much either. When Brock speaks he is engaging to listen to, he's confident and I want him to be the face of our club. I did not say "Brock is da best alda othas r shyte !!!111" Although that may be more on your intellectual level. I simply felt Brock covered areas that I see and I consider important better than the others - it doesn't mean I think the others mentioned are [censored] and have no leadership ability or prospects whatsoever. Glass houses and other apt cliches. You're asking for an opinion, I base it on what I see and give it. Yet because I admit I'm not Dean Bailey and know all workings of leadership within the club I'm canned for not being up to date? As above I have not said they are useless I just favour McLean over them that's all. What's so astounding? That I don't have splinters in my arse, like you from sitting on that fence? But you can't have a guess unless you know. Twerp
-
McLean for me. Granted I like most don't see the inner workings of leadership in the club but from what I do see McLean's the complete package. Good player and on-field leader and he potrays himself and the club well in the media. I think there are significant question marks as to whether Miller, Bruce, Green and McDonald do as well as McLean in all these areas.

Demon4Life/Clint's is my choice. Option A & B are just dull and only marginally better than the silver monstrousity. C & D are better reworkings IMO although the new demon logo is looking less ridiculous by the day in my eyes. But D4L/CB's actually looks like a football jumper that is representative of Melbourne Football Club - I'd actually buy that one it's red & blue not a bastardized version of our history with a neutral colour thrown in. For those who have voted the other options would you actually buy any of them? Could you really be bothered trying to explain who the jumper represented? It doesn't look anything like Melbourne. I'm tired of our boards giving us the choice between a turd sandwich and a giant [censored] when it comes to these issues. It's no choice at all. Stuff the AFL, it's our club, our game, our jumper it's either red and blue or it's for the EDFL.
-
Slightly OT - but I possess a North Membership (Also a Dees one of course) and will continue to purchase although I'm 100% Red & Blue and was filthy after our loss in Round 4. North are a good club and part of the reason I bought the membership was that I wouldn't like it if the AFL tried to make such a move on us. The AFL's standover tactics sending out lies about the benefits of immediate expansion through their attack muppets Messrs Smith & Co in the media just reeked of arrogance and smacked of AD trying to create a legacy for himself (When did 2015 turn into 2011??). Interestingly anyone notice the bottom two clubs (and the states they hail from) on the #2 post tally? Back On Topic - our membership tally is impressive given our poor start and reputation for having fickle supporters. Hopefully will shut a few of the clowns in the media up.

We play like we did in the second half on Sunday we'll win the next 18 & the flag. Realistically our record at Football Park is shite but if nothing else we're due...
