The "They're out here" Get Rid of the Zone Defence Thread
Cheap Seats replied to Forest Demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
I watch a few games but not a whole lot. I can assure you teams that press do give up a lot of goals. I dont watch a heap though so i can't really compare our press to say dogs. It is frustrating no doubt how many goals (and against port it was a lot) we do easily give up. I do believe it is a result of youth and inconsistency and not the structure for us at this stage -

Thid is just my opinion obviously. But the diamond would be but one of many structures employed. I cant comfirm without watching hours of footage and most of it wouldn't show the structure. Back to the orginal quote I agree we are a work in progress but the eagles web has been found lacking in 2016. Bad application doesnt mean it doesn't work, teams need to master it eg Cats, hawks u get the drift Our problem is iur talent is young and with youth will come error and inconsistency. Im.not ready to call this a failure yet. In the grand scheme of 2016 alone it may fail. It doesent make it a failure imo -

Are you saying the diamond is employed in every game at every Centre bounce contest? -

I enjoy the footy we play now. Unfortunately it leaves us open on defence Does the new style need work - hell yeh. Will it take time? Am i disappointed with the losses to port, saint, dogs, bombers etc... bloody oath. I want to see improvement in defensive pressure theough out the year. But im not going to lose my shizz and throw the toys out od the cot after a loss or 2 The team beed stability. Im hoping the Roos/Goodwin combo will continue to bring that and continue to bring improvement -

No I'm trying to paint a picture of what i belive the club is trying to do, and why they fail to execute from time to time Can we even define what the defence is under the current system? I can guarentee it isnt what we did in 14/15 when Roos first started How does the MFC apply defensive pressure? I agree with you it was non existent against Port Is the drop in defence due to fatigue in young players? Inexperience? Or is it due to a new game plan? I thin it's a bit of all.of the above , especially in an 18 man press in a young side playing a new style Enjoy thengood and the bad. I belive this a new club and on the rise agin. Mistakes will be made but they wont be mortal -

Im no expert i am just trying to communicate what I've seen and heard. But we are playing a completely different style of game to prior years The keys as i understand it to our defence are Pressure Winning contested ball. If we dont do that we lose. It shouldnt be an excuse but temas like port, dogs etc who bring pressure and excellent ball.movement are able to towel us up dur to our lack of ability to execute the game atyle for 4 qtrs -

In repect to prior years or the general application across games? 2016 is a new style. We dont play the dour 1 v 1 or flooding/rebound style like 14/15 anymore -

No The gane plan itself and the application of it are 2 complete different things Should have had u bkokes down at Geelong in 05. You would have sacked bomber and i wouldn't have to put up with my smug cata supporting mates. My point is with a young list it's going to take time to gel. Find any amount of excuses u want but with our liat profile at the moment we are still in rebuild. We dont have to start again rebuild but develop what we have rebuild. I'm hoping we csn bag a few more wins this year (another 4 or 5 at least) but this year is a work in progress IMO and from what I've seen on field -
Talk about throw the baby out with the bathwater kind of stuff happening here. Not sure whos kidding who in this thread, At rd 10 we're 5 & 5 with a couple tough losses and a couple games we could have easily won. Beats the last few years ... and before anyone gets their knickers in a knot I think 2016 yr is another building block, Im not getting carried away with media hype

Is the good news though that we've worked out a few arent up to afl standard or cant work up to the speed and intensity of afl footy. As impressive as Michie and Newton have been in the vfl not sure they'll make afl.
-
The speed of which the ball has entered the defensive 50 dosent help. If our forwards and mids aren't putting on pressure even SOS in the 90s wouldnt be able to stop the goal flow. I dont think hes ready for afl just yet but some of the suggestions on here are prety funny
-
I personally think the players got caught out front running. We can't be sure how big a part fatigue and inexperience players hurt our defensive style. But on the weekene we had lomg periods of non defensive pressure and we looked sloppy. Youth is a easy excuse but we can't hide from the fact we're playing a lot of youth and inexperience

I really felt our forwards let us down yesterday (not only the kicking for goal), Their pressure was terrible. So I agree with the sentiment of this thread and the disappointment I don't agree with the argument. They need to keep doing it until they master it. Port highlighted again our 2 biggest weaknesses. the ability to hold the ball in our offence are (zone) and ball use. Our Ball use is terrible as well. The good news is these are all fixable problems, the bad news is it probably won't be this season -
They look sensational Great stuff Jeffy, should be proud

Unsure if mentioned already Old mate Venom Denham said today on KBs show T Mac was close to signing. Would love kent and jetta first
-
Agree The MFC wont disappear if he leaves but if we want to be a serious team who plays dewp in to September. Hes our no 1 priority
-
I personally think this myth is debunked now. There will still be some disappointments like the Essendon loss as we r not a seasoned team as yet. But we are no longer a joke.

Kids played 5 or so games? Needs gym time and experience. Talk about going over the top, give the kid a chance. Not every player is AFL ready game 1. Some ned time to develop... and before u go off half cocked we lack depth in defence atm hes playing a role

Is Tom McDonald tradable at the end of 2016?
Cheap Seats replied to Adam The God's topic in Melbourne Demons
Agreed and just add in a bit of perspective Rance had the same issues that T Mac is having. We'd be nuts to trade him. A keeper for mine- 176 replies

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here

I say offer him more girls, the more the merrier -
Don't ruin my entertainment with your lodgic

I though Hogan was pretty good. Didn't impact the scoreboard like last week but contested well all night. Stats wont show his contribution but his bullocking work and pressure around the ground was very good for a man who was out numbered all night

Im.just trying to predict outs. I cant find any clear candidates to drop... Possible outs: Oliie (rest) Brayshaw (fitness) Hunt (stiff) Wagner (very stiff) M Jones (stiff) Frost/pederson (stiff) Salem (form? I personally wouldnt drop him at this stage) Ins: Vince & Garlett (givens if fit), Michie, & ANB (both have been solid in vfl both have to be close), Tracc & trengove (probs not yet). The been there befores - Grimes and Terlich (both also been solid) Wowee i can't remeber the last time the dees had a problem like this. I can only see 1 change (Vince for oliver/hunt/wagner) Garlett will depend on fitness. I love that there is real pressure to perfom now to keep your spot. Young or old u wont be gifted a game.
