You're right i dont belong on Demonland
-
Wow no one can find positives. We just pushed last yrs gf team to the limit in wa with a young team and no one can find any positives. Am I [censored] we lost...hell yeh, but if we dont play any worse then that going forward we are going to start winning more then we lose
-
He did make a couple bad errors today. But some were as Biff said because he was trying to make things happen. The eagles flood smothered our scoring options. But dont worry it was the McDonald brothers fault we lost... not Berniea or anyone else

I agree No other player made an errors or gave away stupid free kicks No one else missed shots at goal The umpires certainly didn't change momentum. Go start a Dawes had a great game thread [censored]... seriously stupid agenda

Wce all behind the ball mate

Ill be tucked up safely innbed mate. Dont u worry

Probsbly no point playing the game at all. Afterall we already know the result. Better call the AFL and tell them Demonland has spoken Afterall nothing good ever happens to the Dees. Also while you're on the phone with Gil tell him dont worry abour port in radelaide or cats in Geelong as nothing good has ever happened to the MFC there either Why waste everyones time with these pointless games
-
Yep agreed 100% it's a huge blight on the MFC and it started a long time ago. The players, supporters and everyone have been let down by past administrations. And it probably goes back a long long way. That's why we're starting from so far back, we dont have the leaders on field we need to be a consistent AFL side right now or implement plan a or b. But i feel we do have good off feild leaders now which will help build the on field consistency. I know we get frustrated with sometimes obvious mistakes and percivied lack of development but i think it's there. I cant be 100% sure as i dont have the inside info but we have played some really good footy this year. Would love them to iron out the inconsistency as ive discussed in prior posts but I think it may take more time which is equally frustrating.
-
Again i dont think you're wrong, i think you have over simplified the situation. Here's why i think that Players like Hunt and Wagner havent had 3 years in the system. They have had 1, and not even one. There are plenty others but these are 2 obvious examples. This is the first year we have played this style... Previously under Roos we were very 1 on 1 etc now we are using more modern zone tactics (i am no coach i cant give exact details, its only going from what i read and hear). To say we haven't improved is subjective. While we score a lot more now due to a more offensive game plan, our skill level is still poor no doubt. So i refeence my 1st point here. If you bring in new blood (which we have) we shouldn't expect that 18 - 20 y/o get it from day 1, and they havent had 3 years preparation like you suggested I think we both agree thr MFC list has holes but we disagree on who how and why. I see us as a year 2 of development project and it's going to take time. I'm not saying we can't get upset or frustrated Im sayng its not a simple quck fix like it is offten suggested on here and it's not all doom.and gloom like its also suggested. There are multiple factor affecting performance and when we've been on we have looked really really good and exciting.
-
I agree with everything you've said. But there are mitigating factors to why this can't be achieved at this stage in 2016. We are not Hawthorn who have 10 years experience at doing this. We are literally year 1 in to our 'style'. Maybe the reasons we drop.off so dramatically are due to inexperience and inability (fatigue youth and other factors) to play our 'style' for 120 mins. Roos has consistently said this in his pressers. And if we can't consistently get plan a correct. What makes us think automatically plannb will work snd be executed? Sadly we don't have those great leaders like a Hodge or McVeigh etc to execute said plans. Really if you look at the teams that can do it they all.have great leaders and experience across the board. I'm not saying we shouldn't aim for it i am just saying its more likey we cant execute a and b. Or the coaches have said they (players) need to execute planna before we introduxe plan b. Indont know i am only speculating I am.not writing off your point jnr I just think we as a group of supporters are a negative bunch (and rightly so for a lot of reasons) and there are multiple reasons why we keep being inconsistent through out the season and games.
-
How many sides do you reckon have a plan b? I don't watch tons of games every week, i dont claim to be an expert, and can easily be proven wrong, but i am not sure plan b even exists. Name me any inexperienced or developing afl sides who have a plan b? I can't think of many if any sides that swap their entire game style mid game. Every team makes positional changes depending on situations but that's not really a plan b. But if u say that is then you can't say we dont do it because that would be a lie. And in your humble opinion would plan b be dependent on the experience of the group. I mean as a coach if they cant get plan a right what is the point of plan b? Surely that would be irresponsible coaching? But lets not facts get in front of the veil?

I am just going to throw this out there, I've dwelled on the game for the past couple of days, and there is no doubt the boys went to sleep for at 30 - 40 mins... And although we are all disappointed in losing to the Aints again, at Etihad again, the exact same way as probably the last 4 times (if not the past 13 times) continuing the rubbish in the media blah blah blah Does anyone think there is a benefit from us playing young kids and sticking to our style for 4 qtrs? Geelong did it back in 04 & 05 before turning the corner. We knew (all of us - coaches, players & supporters) what the Saints were going to bring - Pressure and rebound front running. We also knew we probably didn't have leg speed to match them - We also know Etihad is a fast track and teams who rebound excel there (dogs and saints are prime examples, haven't the saints won 56 out of 60 at Etihad or some rubbish/? Ch 7 commentary replay will give the stats) Was there some good signs from the game that we played our game style for 4 qtrs, should have taken the lead in the final qtr, coming back from Darwin, playing kids and got very close to getting the chocolates? There is no doubt we lack true leg speed to match it with the really good rebounding sides - who continute to beat us - Port, Saints, Dogs, Hawks etc. And although there is a lot of short term pain, will blokes like Hunt, Wagner, Brayshaw, Trac, Kent, O Mac etc etc be able to take the experience build on it in the offseason and enable us to play 4 qtrs. of Dees footy, will the tide finally turn? Or am I way out here and it's all just negatives and Doom and Gloom? When do we lift the veil?

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - ANGUS BRAYSHAW
Cheap Seats replied to ashdemons22's topic in Melbourne Demons
So is it to late to rename thie thread Welcome Fatty Fatty -
I 100% agree. Against decent opposition they have exposed our slow and poor ball use. I hope this is an inexperience thing and not a complete flaw
-
Fair enough I will have a read in the other thread...But I think we will have to agree to disagree I think we will gain more from the experience given to the younger blokes long term, but time will tell
-
I am not quite sure I agree with you there. I think you're just pointing out how bad our list was.... Who exactly should have played that would have changed the result yesterday? We needed pace and class yesterday, stretch is the only one I can think of off the top of my head who wasn't playing that offers that. The rest are slow or old or both.
-
If we were good enough to pull off a few close calls Norf, Crows and Bombers (I know it wasn't close but we should have knocked them over)... We'd be all really happy right now (well probably not as we'd be more upset in losing to the Aints again).
-
The sad reality is the improvement has to come from our kids. We don't have the senior talent to step up again in 2016. I know it's not what ppl want to hear but bringing in kids and we've brought in a lot, it's going to take 24-36 months before these kids have AFL bodies and can step up. We've seen guys like Viney,, Hogan & Gawn step up this year. They've played what 40 - 50 games ave each?? We need kids like Brayshaw, Trac, Ollie, Stretch, Hunt, Wagner, Kent etc all to get to the same stage before we see real improvement. Which is what makes our list so exciting. I do hear what you're saying though it would be nice to have the whole team step up and finally kick a few more hoo doos. Damn I was upset yesterday. But the reality is we are a young side with a lot of Development to do
-
I generally agree with what you're saying, his output has been down. It also depends on how he is being used. Like you I am unsure about VDB atm. But the good thing about the rest of 2016 is that we can try blokes like VDB, Grimes, White, M jones, O Mac, Stretch, Harmes etc to see who have the required skills moving forward. If you're slow and you can't kick I think you might be in trouble moving forward
-
This thread has identified our major weakness - leg speed/outside run If you look at all our losses this year I reckon you'll find we were beaten by teams who were able to exploit our lack of run and speed. Saints & Port are both front runners - what I mean by that is they put pressure on up the field & create turnovers and flood forward. Their quick smalls and mids allow them to do this. And we got smashed every time we play them because unless we can keep the game contested the over run us literally and our boys can't keep up. Bombers same tactic Dogs, Hawks, Crows all better on the outside then us, all beat us with better spread. Its our number one issue going in to 2017. If we really want to improve as a club - we need outside run. So slow one dimensional players are a liability unless we can keep the game contested (aka swans 2004) I am not upset or calling for heads just trying to add to the debate - Its very clear it's our biggest weakness. Our mids are a little one dimensional - Viney and Tyson aren't slow but they aren't fast either. Its the biggest challenge for our coaching group at the moment. Our list has a lot of talent - there is no doubt, but the majority are young kids who can't compete every week for 120 mins. It has been really impressive what they have achieved so far this year, but we won't win too many more games unless we can fix the run and spread in our game.
-
Haha no we were Brisbane

What would your best revenge against the saints be?
Cheap Seats replied to MrBurns's topic in Melbourne Demons
Beat them in finals again -
He had a few mates today too. It was 100% not JGs fault but if we want to be a good side i can't see him being in it
-
Yep agree WB I like that we want to play our style but it played in to saints hands. Overuse off thr footy killed us. I'm not going to bag individual players as the whole team was down but there are a few blokes who are too slow and cant kick, which is a terrible combination to carry in our game plan
-
Just not good enough simple as that. Ball use was poor and our pressure when we lost it was poor. We continued to bomb it to the saints advantage and couldnt keep up with front runners. Overuse of the handball played in to aints hands as well. A few blokes with poor disposal and slow should be worried about their careers. We continually lose to teams who rebound against us
