2008 Player Review - # 22 Brent Moloney
Lord Travis replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm gonna stand up for the guy here. This year before his injury he was one of our best players, and was a real leader out there. Something we lack, and something I hadnt seen alot from him before. He also showed he can be a goal kicking midfielder. I remember a game (possibly vs North?) where we were getting done, and he just took it from the centre bounce ran straight at the goals and put it through from 50. Twice in 3 mins. And they were the only goals we had scored from memory (or close to ). And after he nailed them he was jogging round trying to fire everyone up. Was a really good thing to see and raised my hopes for him more for the future. Bad luck for him on the shoulder injury. Thank god it wasnt his groin breaking down again though! We certainly could have used him out there this year, if only to take some heat off Jones at times. I still believe he can be a good AFL player, but if he gets injured again next year then it's probably the end for him I do rate him though. In my opinion, he's our second best mid behind Mclean and head of Jones. I know alot of people will disagree, but I just think if he gets the body right (yeah yeah...) he could surprise alot of people. -
10 goals now. 30 something touches (lost count), 10 goals, bunch of marks, some contested. Has Bartel like marking overhead for his size. Amazing performance. You'd think he is top 5 material now possibly? He's been my man from the start. Just ask Hards. I was on him 6 months ago (mainly for his name ) lol Going to be a very good AFL player. Just got that build and hunger about him.

Not De Boer. PLEASE not De Boer. The guy is a battler, not a talent. He isnt quick, his disposal is poor. He is exactly like Jones. We dont need another slow-ish mid with questionable disposal. We need some outside pace with good kicking skills. Pick up Blease or Zaharakis. I think the draft camp will determine Swifts fate. If he manages to test well, then he wont be around for 17 onwards. If he doesnt, then he will be, but you'd have to worry <_< Wouldnt mind taking him though as he is a super talent and was absolutely murdering it before the knee went.

No way would we do that trade with Adelaide unless Bell wanted out badly. To lose a youngish player headed towards his prime, who was a highish draft pick, who we've put years of work into to get his body right, who has shown he is a brilliant defender when on song (2007 he was out best defender), and has potential to play midfield later in his career....for a 27 year old hack. No thanks.

Correct me if I'm wrong guys, but I believe he still has a year left on his contract, but has asked to be traded, meaning he wont walk into PSD? Not 100% sure, but I thought I read that recently... Anyone know his contract status? Could be a decent get, as he has talent and is young.

Naita has been put forward a few times for very little success. He set up a nice goal one time, but other than that he hasnt taken marks (he averages a touch under 2 marks a game), hasnt kicked goals, doesnt know when to lead, and has been generally lost and ineffective. Last weekend he got played at CHB, where he has played a few matches the last few months. He had 5 goals kicked on him in one quarter and was benched before being sent back into the ruck. In the ruck he was comprehensively out strengthened both at hitouts and around the ground by none other than Mark Seaby. Seaby had also been carried a shoulder injury. Luckily for Naita he laid a tackle (one of the few stats he is currently good at) on Seaby late in the game, and Seaby landed awkwardly and missed most of the last quarter. I've seen him play 4 times now I think, and his best game was a 13 touch, 11 hit out, 3 mark game. Hardly anything to write home about, but there were glimpses there. But thats all they were. Glimpses. He still didnt stamp himself convincingly on that game, or any games ive seen him play. I'm afraid he'll never be anything more than glimpses of talent, and we've had far too many of those kind at our club. Naita is a freak athlete, but a footballer he aint. If we wasted #1 pick on him it would be a travesty to be honest.

Yeah not the most talented player ever selected They always put a second ruck in though, and none of the rucks were really consistent through out the whole year. Hille was good for part of it, Petrie also despite being used in several positions though. Motlop pretty stiff to miss. Kicked what 60 odd goals or so in a team that came 13th. Bit like Robbo for us a few year back, though we did well that year Despite those few mistakes, it's probably one of the better AA teams of the last few years.

Judd not only making it, but being captain is abit of a joke IMO. Getting by on reputation now. I know he was right up there at the top for contested possessions this year, but there were still players, especially midfielders, who were far better this year. I'd say Sam Mitchell was one of them. Brett Kirk another. Really didnt deserve it, and Im sure Chris would be the first person to admit that. Wankfest.

Swans interested in Jeff White!
Lord Travis replied to The Great Pretender's topic in Melbourne Demons
White might fetch us a late pick in say the 50s if the Swans want to be kind and maintain a good relationship for the future, or will go for free in the PSD. Either way not much loss to us as we knew it was coming and we wouldnt get anything for him due to his age. If we can get a late draft pick we may as well and throw another kid on the list. We got Bartram and Buckley with late picks, so players can still be found late in the draft. Best of luck to Jeff anyhoo -
Since Travis is gone now, I'd say Bruce or Brock will get most votes for us. It will only be 4-5 votes though. Is it possible our team as a whole wont make 10 votes

Dont like seeing Judds name in there. Not because we didnt get him, but because he doesnt deserve it and would be getting in on reputation alone. Wouldnt even have him as Calrtons best mid this year, let alone AA.

http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sport/afl...2-19742,00.html Alwyn Davey says no to Demons "ESSENDON has rebuffed interest from Melbourne in Alwyn Davey and will re-sign the youngster on a two-year deal next week. Davey, who is already training after a knee reconstruction early this year, has agreed to terms on a new deal. Davey's management company Stride Sports agreed to terms with Essendon in recent days." Looks like this trade has got away too. With Prismall doing hsi knee and likely to stay at Geelong, Warnock nominating Carlton, and Alwyn signing on with Essendon, there is noone left we should bother with. Gotta love trade period Whole lot of build up for [censored] all results. Biggest anti-climax of the year.

P.S this quote made me lol hard "I believe his decision to want to join us was not about the money, but more about getting a better opportunity to play on a regular basis and having more game time," Swann said. NOT ABOUT MONEY

http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story...5012432,00.html Blues win race for Fremantle ruckman "DESPITE not playing finals football for seven years, Carlton yesterday scooped its rivals again, with young Docker Robert Warnock nominating the Blues as his new club of choice. Melbourne and Richmond are likely to miss out on Warnock after the 21-year-old's manager, Colin Young, yesterday informed Carlton general manager of football operations Steven Icke that his client had chosen the Blues. " Brilliant. Looks like we lost another one to Carlton. How the [censored] are they fitting this in their cap? Either way job well done Melbourne. We hold zero respect.

Thanks :D Hopefully Jones will have a better year next year with alot more support around him in the midfield.
-
So we've poached the conditioning staff of the one team in the league with a bigger injury list than ours?..... Brilliant
-
I made a post about how disappointed I was with him all the way back in July. I doubt much has changed so I'll just re-post it.
-
Correct. He has shown he has what it takes to be a great defender. He reads the play well, has good speed, doesnt give away many free kicks, and his rebound kicking skills are very good. Leave him down back to settle.
-
Carrolls contracted next year, so he will be around. No other club would take him now after all the off-field fiascos he has had. Holland thank god has retired. I know he always tried hard, but he was very limited. About the only good thing to come out of his career at MFC for me personally was a laugh. Thats all Dutchy was good for. I mean when you go to a match and see a guy take a strong mark, then miss a set shot from about 5 metres out directly infront, all you can do is laugh!

Noone answered the question whether he will be available or not.... Good lord Lethal Leigh coaching the Dees would be something!

Melbourne 2008: an E- from sportal.com.au
Lord Travis replied to DemonTraveller's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not surprised we got an E-. Why didnt we get an F? We deserved it! Most pathetic season I've witnessed. If we didnt have some exciting young kids in the team I'd have lost all hope, but luckily I have a tiny shred I'm still clinging to. -
Also, Mortons kicking isnt an issue. It was elite at under-age level. And I mean elite. He would regularly ram the ball down the throat of leading players 55 metres away. What happened this year is that he put on roughly 10kgs in 6-8 months, and so his body has changed and he is still getting used to it. Coupled with being a guy who turned 18 earlier this year and is skinny due to his height and age, playing his first year at AFL senior level against men who have been playing for years and have harder bodies.....well I dont have to explain that his confidence wouldnt be the greatest yet. Especially playing in a team getting routinely smashed. Also moving interstate and adjusting to an entirely new life will take time to get used to. I know him through a friend though, and he is settling in fine and is enjoying Melbourne after initially finding it to be a very busy place! He will be fine with time, and definitely one of the best players from his draft. We have an exciting young midfielder on our hands >:D

I agree with you Freak that Lisle should be our aim with pick 17 or 19. Dont think we'd need/want him to play midfield, but I guess it's a possibility as a last resort. We'd want him up forward where we lack at the moment. If we could pick up Pick #1 - J. Watts Pick #17 - D. Zaharakis/S. Blease Pick #19 - J. Lisle PSD#1 or possibly Pick 35 - R. Warnock We will have done very well. We will have picked up a young ruckman who has already had a few years to develop abit, an extremely talented and athletic tall, a midfielder with good pace and skills, and another good tall who has played both forward and back, but we'd want him up forward.
