Ominously it was round 13, and we were well beaten in front of 8,312 hardy fans. We did at least salvage a League record out of the rubble of that round, and one unlikely to be beaten: temporary coach Checker Hughes was the oldest person then to have coached an AFL team, and remains so at 71 years, 148 days. Dunno whether that qualifies for the “embarrassing records” thread or not, but it is what it is.

We are the current league record-holders of the lowest percentage at the end of the season since 1966 (leaving aside the disintegrating shell of Fitzroy and the start of the GWS and GC franchises), with 54.1 in our reverse-stellar year of 2013. I note that the Eagles currently are at 51.4 and will have the job in front of them to not take this particular unwanted crown from us.

DS, would I be right in thinking that if you dropped out S Febey for someone like Ron Baggott or a D Cockatoo-Collins it would be a team that had a brother who played at the level for a club other than Melbourne?

That would eliminate Spencer (7 years, 122 games), Warne-Smith (9/138), Chadwick (9/141), Ridley (9/130 - 5 flags!!) and Mithen (9/153). Fwiw, I think Clarrie’s already there, and is one of our all-time greats, Trac not far behind. Together with Max we are blessed to be able to enjoy 3 of our best-ever stars playing together in our current team. And from what I’ve read and heard I wouldn’t be dropping Spencer, Mithen and IWS from our rolling Team of the Century.
