  1. First time we went undefeated in May since 1965. And yes, that's not a good omen year.
  2. Not “embarrassing” as such, but first 100+ point win in 14 years (Carlton, 2 May 2004). Biggest win since 22 August 1993 (121 points over Richmond). Nice to be dishing it out for a change.
  3. This thread caused me to look up the stats in relation to Peter Moore. My recollection was he was in that small category of player who Brownlow'd, but didn't win the club B&F in the same year. In 1984 he scored 24 votes to win the Brownlow, with Robbie Flower 3rd on 19 votes. Gerard Healy won our B&F that year, and garnered 2 Brownlow votes. Amazing! Shades of Geoff Raines in 1980 scoring no votes after being raging pre-vote favorite. A rough equivalent in 2017 would be Toby Nankervis knocking off Dusty for the Jack Dyer. Fwiw, like most here I would not have Moore in the team .
  4. Another embarrassing record - been trying without success to win in Hobart since 14 June 1952 (Fitzroy took us down that day).
  5. A particular part of his work that I liked was that in clutch games (esp finals) he was often up and about early when the game was there to be won, hitting the scoreboard in his exciting way.
  6. Don't like to think about this one too much, but actually 2006. 15 in a row, mostly big losses. Closing in on the 16 in a row in the 70s/80s. There, I've dealt with it and will move on....
  7. "Your wish is our command, VP!"
  8. Craig Hutchison was all over this on FC: Saints should have picked Bontempelli instead of McCartin. Hutchy - the accurate one!
  9. Happy to knock that one off, but would settle for winning the actual flag. From 8th would be fine!
  10. When we were possibly the most deserving team in AFL history to have not snagged the spoon, based on our body of work for the season. Just when I thought I'd put that memory behind me.......
  11. The much vaunted 2006, and we did it 5 times that year. That is, we had separate winning streaks of 5 and 6.
  12. 6 years and 5 days ago, when we beat Richmond, having beaten Brisbane and handed out the biggest defeat Roos suffered at the Swans. We thought we were on a roll. This time it's different. Please....
  13. Yep, I'm sure that's the way Bucks is explaining it to Maguire.
  14. Brisbane 2002? Sydney 06 at SCG when Rivers gave away a late 50 to nearly cost us the game. 2006 was a year where a lot of these hoodoos were set.
  15. One of our more memorable games these last 50 odd years: Elimination Final 1987. North Melbourne's 18 yo Shaun Smith whacked by Mr Dean Chiron, former St Kilda player. Our boy got a week, and was back for the Prelim.
  16. JJ, one nasty one on SS (may have broken his jaw) was by one of Lockett's teammates - does it ring a bell?
  17. Nailed it in three. Sentences.
  18. First win in September since 8 September 2006.
  19. NFL

A question: was that Craig Hutchison (the famed "Hutchy") out on the ground patting Kurt Warner on the back as he carried the Vince Lombardi Trophy through the milling Patriots? If not, his doppelgänger.
  20. Yeah, as someone said about the previous 2 Tests, "Bradman" comes in at 5, while the work experience kid (Quiney) gets sent in at 3.
  21. My gut reaction was that Greg Chappell was the best Australian batsman I've seen. There was an interesting article by Malcolm Conn on the weekend (sorry, don't know how to link it) which tried to rate batsmen statistically, so you could attempt to compare eras. The methodology basically was to compare the average of a batsman against that of his team-mates. The result of this was Greg Chappell at no. 2 fairly clearly (Guess Who being heaps in front), with Border next. Billy Murdoch(from 1880s) did well, with Ponting down the list a bit. Fits in with my thoughts, with Chappell scoring heavily against some great West Indian attacks.
  22. Thanks again RR - best explanation I've heard. Ah yes - now I can see why I've thought your contributions have been coming from a different hemisphere.....
