Watching the races today from Sydney, and noticed Predatory Pricing (half-brother to Takeover Target) won the Gloaming, sporting the colours of navy blue with red yoke, together with red pitch fork. Does anyone know whether the connections, including lawyer Tony Hartnell, have any MFC sympathies or is it just a wild coincidence. Was about the only thing approaching Demon publicity I've seen for a while.

The people that traded for Tarrant & Solomon are gone

Agree it's harder to assess players from earlier eras, but wouldn't want to eliminate Bradman and Grace from cricket lists, or Carbine or Phar Lap from racing evaluations for that reason alone. From what I've gathered over the journey we do have some all time greats from earlier eras to rank with the likes of Barassi and Flower. Names like La Fontaine, Beames and (especially) Jack Mueller. Stuart Spencer must have been special - B&F's in 2 dominant flag teams, as well as top goal-kicker in one while playing as rover. Laurie Mithen and Don Williams also appear to have been potent forces in the 50's/60's era.

Found myself in the unusual situation of cheering Milne's goals - needed a wash after that.

"wears and has only ever worn No.13" Didn't he start with no 44? Otherwise agree.

MCC members have been sent material to vote in the election for the committee. There are 4 candidates for 3 spots, with 3 standing for re-election. My thoughts are that it is good to have people on this body who are well disposed to the MFC, particularly at this crucial time. Candidates are Will Fowles (a disclosed Demon), Peter Dakin, David Crow - sitting members - and Colin Beames, son of MFC legend Percy Beames. Does anyone know the form of these in relation to the MFC?

Interesting to see on Footy Confidential that Chris Johnson got a combined 5 votes from the 2 coaches.

Thanks for that.

Thanks for the link, can't access it at the moment though - how many minutes of 64?

Dennis Cometti once said that if it was someone to kick for "my life", he would pick his mother "because at least she'd care". On that basis, I guess we should get Dennis's mum on the list and use her.

Interesting to read in the MFC Coaches' Report today that they were "really happy" with Lynden Dunn's performance on Sunday, but that Adem Yze had been dropped because "some parts of his game against Richmond were not up to team standards". So the (at least 3) examples of Adem fumbling or avoiding physical contact under pressure have been held accountable, but LD's lack of pressure has not drawn the same public airing. I guess we don't know what the in-house assessment threw up.

Bartram - justice for Goodes

I too was annoyed by the 2 incidents mentioned by JJC, which took some shine off an otherwise excellent display. I thought the interesting thing about both incidents was that it wasn't so much about Lynden being afraid of impending physical contact, as his failure to apply the physical pressure by initiating the contact himself. He should have forced spillages in both marking contests, and that seems a lot easier than standing in front of a pack waiting for a mark, etc. Maybe an issue about lack of sufficient intensity.

Agree Jaded - seems as though I was one of the few who was disappointed at Adem's performance at critical points under pressure on Sunday. Let's find out what SV can do with a couple of games.

One of his former "pupils" was at our table on Saturday night. One thing he said was that Norm Smith kept the players guessing, and that he kept his distance from the players. Seems that there was no comfort zone for the players, and that after a loss you could be in for a gut-busting training session, or a relaxing night akin to team bonding. Certainly a "command and control" era in terms of management.

So, in 2007 with similar weather, Melbourne with 1 win for the season, Collingwood flying, we draw 70,000. 2008 - similar weather and form scenarios, robust representation from Melbourne fans and we get 11,000 fewer people. I reckon that Demetriou was not helpful in pointing out to the feral how important this game was to Melbourne. And no, I wasn't fooling myself - I'll leave that to the fools.

So, 59,548 attendance. How much did Demetriou's intervention cost us? We've had north of 70,000 in last 2 years. It struck me that the effect of his comments was to elicit an FU from the scum supporters. Thanks you *&^%$ for that - presumably mission accomplished.

Bring back the red job from a couple of years ago. It looked good, it didn't clash. And we won some games in it.

"we have won 3 quarters out of 26". Say what ???
