  1. It would be dependant on Richmond's forward line for Martin/Carroll to come in. I just think it would be great for the supporters to see Warnock, Garland and Martin holding the three key positions down back. And if we don't bring Carroll/Martin in we could be vulnerable down back without Bell in the side if Richmond went tall, as none of our other backs would have the ability to play tall. We'd have to throw someone like Bruce down back. Maybe this could save Bell from the chopping block for another week.
  2. I can't see it happening, i think we'll let him develop. This week was the perfect opportunity with Davey out of the side. He might sneak one later in the season, will have to wait and see. I believe the club is letting him concentrate on finishing school this year too?
  3. Has to be given his chance. Has earned a call up in the last month more than anyone I can remember at the club. Bring him up and give him three weeks like Buckley was given, he will not disappoint and cement his spot. Can see him playing a Heath Shaw half back flank type role, a style I imagine he's playing down at Sandy at the moment. Changes if I was Dean Bailey In: C. Johnson, M. Whelan, S. Valenti, A. Davey, N. Carroll/S. Martin Out: B. Moloney (inj), J. Rivers (inj), D. Bell, C. Bartram, J. Bode Bartram has been poor for a while and needs a run for Sandy to find some form. Both Nate Carroll and Martin had good games at Sandy, either one could come in to replace the injured Jared Rivers. Valenti in to take Moloney's place in the middle. You'd also consider Ben Holland if he's fit, but he couldn't get up for Sandy this week. I'd imagine Juice needs at least 1 game back with Sandy after his injury woes before he is considered. Oops, forgot about Aaron Davey. Edited, Bode makes way for him.
  4. missed opportunites is what cost us today... Sylvia Morton Green Yze all 4 should've kicked 2 more goals each than what they finished with... adding another 42 odd points to the score and we win by 3 goals... i know it's a simplistic way of looking at it, but they all had shots which at AFL level you need to ice and put away, but they fudged them completely...
  5. i'm a big sylvia fan too, but there was no way he was our best today... wasted oppotunities... 6 - McLean 5 - Warnock 4 - Jones 3 - Yze 2 - Wonaeamerri 1 - White
  6. by the time we huddled, then decided who was going to take the kick we ran out of time and our kick ins were rushed... the players didn't seem to lead hard enough from the huddle either...
  7. he's never been in this kind of form though has he? i can't ever remember it... his form since being droped... Round 5 V Bendigo: 4th best to Summers, Valenti, Crowe Round 6 V Williamstown: Not named in best. Round 7 V Tasmania: Best on ground. Round 8 V Northern Bullants: 2nd best on ground to Yze. Round 9 v Collingwood: Best on Ground. Form like this needs to be rewarded. And I believe Chris will justify his selection once he finally pulls on the red and blue...
  8. my head hurts fantastic night... speeches by lyon and connolly were fantastic... highly entertaining... as a 16 year old lyon was on a pre season training camp... trained hard all day and was exhausted so went to bed while all the players went out on the booze... in the middle of the night someone staggered into the dorm room they were sleeping in and jumped into bed with lyon... gaz just rolled out of bed onto the floor... turned out it was ron barrassi who jumped into bed with him club made a pretty penny on the auctions too... the robbie flower jumper they had went for close to 20 grand from memory? was pretty drunk by this stage...
  9. Juice is still injured... Hamstring... Final side: B: James McDonald, Colin Garland, Daniel Bell HB: Brad Green, Matthew Warnock, Paul Wheatley C: Cale Morton, Brock McLean, Cameron Bruce HF: Matthew Bate, Brad Miller, Lynden Dunn F: Paul Johnson, Colin Sylvia, Austin Wonaeamirri Foll: Jeff White, Brent Moloney, Nathan Jones I/C: Clint Bartram, Jace Bode, Jared Rivers, Adem Yze Emg: Nathan Carroll, Mark Jamar, Chris Johnson
  10. not last week... i think he came into the team for whelan when he was sick?
  11. http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sport/afl...0-19742,00.html Bad luck for Chip. Only set to miss the one game though which is good. Our matchups down back do look much better now with Collingwood's small forward line. This is the second game in a row we've brought someone into the side from outside the squad of 25.
  12. i think you'll find more often than not when you look at the selections made after ours, CC did quite well, especially in the last 5 years... what is hurting us is our lack of quality players between 99-2002... while he made some blunders in this time (blunders all recruiters make), it wasn't all CC fault as he didn't have many selections in this time... what would've been an interesting test if we had pick 10, and if we would've taken nathan brown ahead of james frawley... other players who were drafted after frawley who were KPP, J. Riewoldt, J. Sellar, K. Tippett (taken after petterd)... who would we rather? what frawley does have going for him is pace, and contrary to what other posters have said he is big enough to play KP, he's about 194cm i believe...
  13. i think the predominantly red strips look great, however according to the AFL a predominantly red strip clashes with other clubs like essendon (barely), the bulldogs (have hardly any red) and sydney (we don't clash wearing our original jumper)... think they may be colour blind... while these strips look great, if we could get a predominantly red strip, it should be the inverted jumper... i really hope the AFL head down to the optomitrist, get their eyes checked, and work out that the inverted jumper will do the job...
  14. I like it. Dangerous up forward, but can play defensively too... Would be hard for Shaw to match him in the air... And if we send the ball into the forward line like we did against the Saints Shaw will get 40 posessions unless we play tight on him...
  15. I'm a CJ fan. I think our new gameplan will suit him quite well. He hasn't been given as many opportunities as our other young players yet everyone is always on his back. And I've never been much of a Bartram fan. Lacks the class required for AFL level. Good defensive side to his game, but always lacked the other way. But as you pointed out, we may need him to play in the back pocket. Think we could be a bit top heavy down back. Frawley, Warnock, Rivers and Garland. Two of those blokes will play on Didak/Medhurst I think. Will wait and see how they match up down back.
  16. bench isn't looking pretty this week... Jamar to come in, with PJ playing a permanent forward role... My Final Interchange: A. Yze, J. Rivers, C. Johnson, M. Jamar Emergencies: Bartram, Bode, Carroll also one A. Rocca will be licking his lips. No Hymie the robot to give him another bath... one worry I have this week is the collingwood forward line... i have the feeling that Davis, Didak and Medhurst will cut us up... Sylvia has been named at full forward, and I hope he plays there, but i think he may have to head down back and help us beat their small forwards... why matty whelan hasn't been selected, i don't know... seems to indicate this would be his last season if Bails continues to not pick him... would be a handy pickup for another club looking for a back pocket...

  18. news also just in, Casey Scorpions have recruited Nick Sautner for the 2009 season... but this isn't surprising news... it makes sense considering we're looking at heading out to Casey, and st. kilda are looking at the bayside area as their area of melbourne and that frankston want to remain stand alone... and how was this reported on SEN? did someone call in or was it reported by the station itself? also this is a good time to thank Barry and the other Sandy fans for their contribution to this site over the past few years... lets hope we find some casey fans who are just as informative...
  19. nice work... here is a slight modification, which i think improves a little.. keeps our jumper, well the identity of our jumper within the design...
  20. some interesting quotes from PMac in that article... so it turns out our reverse strip didn't meet the standards required by the AFL... this is a joke to start with... how can the bombers just increase their red sash which creates a greater clash with us (perhaps the reason we haven't played them in a home game in recent times) or collingwood get away with their clash jumpers if our reversed jumper wasn't sufficient? given who we've work our clash jumpers against, you would imagine we clash with the following clubs: St. Kilda, Essendon, Brisbane, Freo, Carlton, Adelaide (no idea why we didn't wear our clash jumper when we played them the other week)... the only clubs a reversed strip could possibly clash with are essendon (barely) and brisbane... and to be honest, our traditional strip doesn't clash with the brisbane one much... if our former predominantly red jumper was sufficient, why isn't a reversed jumper? the AFL's stance on clash jumpers is an absolute joke... we already have a start on this here... a demonlander could have the privilage of designing a MFC jumper!
  21. if you read the next paragraph i attempted to explain (not very clear, was half asleep)... i said the push to get people to show up to matches wasn't directed at members, but at melbourne supporters in general... not all supporters are members... so those people who aren't members have to pay to get in at the gate... further, if more members do attend, there is an increased likelyhood they would bring non-members along with them, which also increases great receipts... there would be some arrangement between the clubs, something along the lines of the following... all hawthorn members who showed up to the game would have to scan their membership cards... the MFC would then charge hawthorn for all of the members who attended the match... there could be something along these lines... there may be a contract in place that clubs receive a share of catering and bar sales, or a fee per head that enters the ground... or the MCC keeps it all to themselves... would depend on the stadium deal... wouldn't surprise me if we don't get something like this while collingwood do given they have a much better stadium deal...
  22. well you'll find that there's a push to get more members... this is because the money goes directly to the club... the great push is to get supporters to attend games, as not all supporters are members, so there will be people paying at the gate... and often if members come to games, they won't attend alone, so there is a chance they will come with non-members who pay to attend the game, which also increases gate receipts... also clubs with more members are likely to draw bigger crowds... this is adventageous for the stadiums to have larger crowds, so these clubs receive a better deal regarding the costs of hosting a game... the stadiums make up the difference as they would receive more revenue from bar sales and the food vendors for the higher drawing games...
  23. without knowing any exact details here are a few things i would assume happen... Melbourne FC members showing up to home games doesn't make any money for the club, as they've already paid the club for their admission. I would assume members of away clubs showing up to our home games result in the away club making a payment to the MFC for their admission. Therefore the clubs profit on all the members with away game membership when they don't show up to games. Not sure about this one, but I would assume that the MCC and AFL members may pay the club when people show up to our home games too. But this is purely speculation, it could be done a number of different ways. The MCC would place a cost on what it takes to run the MCG for a game, and this would be the target we need to meet before we make money. Lets say for simplicity's sake, that every person through the door makes $10 gross profit. We know we break even at about 20,000 people, so that means it costs us about $200,000 to put on a game at the G. But after that 20,000th person comes through the gate, we make $10 clear profit for every person who comes through the gate. That's why when we have a game like Queens Birthday, we make a heap of money, in this example a crowd of 70,000 results in a $500,000 profit.
  24. you may not get a current player at your table... you're just as likely to get one of the 150 heroes to host your table instead...
