WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - ADAM TOMLINSON
The one thing Tomlinson does is take a contested mark on the outlet from the d50. We were so predictable with Max the only target in 19. As a guy who can take that mark and hit up a player (hopefully changing lanes), able to pinch hit in the ruck and block their outlets from our D50, he will be very valuable for us. It is really a role that we don’t have at the moment, and he may even act as a high HF at times able to mark and deliver into 50. Our marking through this part of the ground has been a real deficit, so it make huge sense we should go after this type of player, and better that he is a good clubman, and has a solid tank. Perhaps rather than look at what he didn’t bring to GWS, have a look at what he can specifically add to MFC?

Billy Stretch
I think there are now clear signs - the others all just re-signed have some (potential) upside that maybe Billy and JKH simply dont in the club’s eyes, and the chance to shop them around might be best for both. If not, they might be late delistings before list lodgement. Surprised we signed so many. The club must truly believe 2019 was an aberration. If not, there should have been blood on the floor.

WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - ED LANGDON
Brayshaw -The guy came third in the Brownlow last year, had a rough year this year. Value would be a first rounder minimum. They might want him, but I think that would be separate to the Langdon deal. It might be Langdon for 21 might be the first trade made - it looks fairly open and shut.

Splitting Draft Pick 3
Don’t forget Sparrow, who started well in this past season until injured. He is another midfielder that can add to the team. I do potentially like the idea of Chandler. Would we hope that perhaps even Spargo could go through there as well????

Splitting Draft Pick 3
It is difficult to see a team being able to come up with enough to justify splitting pick 2. They may be able to come up with enough to split pick 3. GWS now are compromised by their high finish - the mid-teen pick is approaching pick 20 with academy selections, F/S opportunities. So is not much better than a second rounder. They (or someone else) is going to have to go hard to have enough currency. It could be someone like Geelong after they finish dealing trading Kelly. GCS could also be a factor with Martin on the way to the blues - if they dont get pick 2, then maybe they trade up to it to ensure they get the dream pair of Rowell and Anderson to stay together? The only other option is for future picks, but this has a risk based in unknown ladder position.

Caleb Serong (Drafted by Fremantle)
Where does that GWS Green kid fit in? Wasn’t he top 5 or something, and the reason they were keen to get the high pick prior to his selection?

Farewell Sam Frost
I think this touches on one of our biggest issues. We were completely devoid of a functioning system, or the players to play it. We saw a high D press, then a sweeper, then a zone, then a man off man (stand 25m away from your nominated player and point at something when he marks uncontested). From our midfield all the way back our defense was horrible, and we truly had no consistent system, or the personnel to execute it. if we get the key players back in 2020, and a defined defensive system, is there room for Frosty mcTurnover? Hmm, not sure....

Tim "Bull" Smith Retires
Good luck Bull. Showed plenty of courage and commitment, and sad to see you go. I remember that maggot Rance sticking the knees into Bull’s back and putting him out for an extended period. Never had a solid run at it.

Splitting Draft Pick 3
That comes down to academy discount (20%) and father son. Interstate clubs have a better go at it through their acadamies, but from memory we got Viney cheap this way too. They want three so they can take a top liner and then scrounge for points with lower picks to get Green. ie, 2 top 5 picks.

Splitting Draft Pick 3
Not sure that is correct. Where is the ‘gift’? They have to trade what they have to get it, and it comes from this years first rounder and a first rounder traded in last year. So they dont have any special gifts in terms of the trade scenario. The fact that they got gifted so many top picks in their early days that puts them in this position now (and with salary cap pressure) is a different story.....

Splitting Draft Pick 3
What is true is that we will have the power to decide. If they want it, it needs to be a juicy offer. If they expect Green to be bid on at 4, then they either need 3 or 4. So our strategy without pick split should see us with Anderson (2) or maybe Young (3). This is definitely to our benefit, particularly if we have Langdon, Tomlinson and Elliot all inbound all for the cost of one second rounder. We get to decide how this plays out, and if we are not getting ‘overs’ we can say “no thanks”. We also have the option of future round picks, although from GWS you would expect them all to be late in each round, and this could also be an interesting strategy to consider into the mix.

Finals Week 2
It was an over officiated mess, until it wasn’t. They even told Charlie Cameron’s opponent he would get a free kick against it they targeted his sore arm. Felt like the umps were trying to assert control, and struggling to do so. 54 free kicks! >14 per quarter, or 1 every 2 minutes.

Willie Rioli Suspended for 2 years
I want to know what happened to the poor bugger who thought he was getting a cup of Gatorade.....

Rory Laird
If we split the pick, we could offer then next year’s first (18) rather than 12/13 this year..... (just sayin’!)

Todd Viney Leaving Confirmed
Clearly? Nope. Viney leaving by his own hand. CEO should focus on the business. If Pert is involved in somehow giving Viney a nudge, then we are in terrible, terrible trouble.

Farewell Sam Frost
All this teeth gnashing over Frosty. I would wish him well if he goes, and take the second rounder or player, use the cap space for someone that improves us, and smile and wave. i can remember so many gameday threads, Joeboy three worders and post match discussions where dl posters were pulling their hair out over this guy. He tours Hawthorn and all of a sudden he is Jesus Christ with a turbo. Loss aversion bias at work. Lets see what we get, and hopefully it is fair for all.

Farewell Sam Frost
The article says his manager believes from MFC that he is required.

Farewell Sam Frost
Is that Basil Gunston??????

Farewell Sam Frost
So we have Petty who is developing nicely, and OMac as depth. Frosty might have legspeed to break the lines and may have some currency in this trade. If he is going to the hawks, what do we get for him? Assume he is not FA or RFA, so are we realistically looking at a second rounder? Or maybe a future second rounder? Would worry he doesnt fit their precise kicking model, as all he has is ‘frost-ball’. Given we have May and Lever, Petty, Hore and Jetta, and one other (Hibbard? Salem?) Frosty may think he has little chance of a regular place in the back 6. He may move to the wing, but with options coming in (Tomlinson and Langdon), he might just want to explore his options going out. Could be good for all parties. Otherwise, he might just be enhancing his negotiating position. Or he is lost and is asking for directions.

Splitting Draft Pick 3
So, how about: We land Tomlinson as a F/A We land Langdon with 20 We split the pick 2/3 with GWS, they get a gun plus Green. We get 2 teen picks plus a player. We take 2 small forwards in the draft with the picks. Chandler is moved back to understudy Nev. Take a spekky selection with the third and last pick that we have to make at about 40. Close the books and hit the rookie draft or PSD.

Shouldn’t all this be in a new thread? Something about free agents, rumours, riddles or something?

The calumny of the AFL's priority pick policy
I hope the team have a clear strategy that will not mean we get suckered at the last moment, but clearly plan out the scenarios and deliver best value.
