We could almost play our injury list as a separate team. Our forward line still looks too short, and with only Frosty as the tall in the back half things look dire. He has to play on Crusty McFlopper, and Hore on Naughton. Preuss to go head to head with Goldy almost all day, with Max working forward as the target. I would love to see some structure around the contest (been waiting 22 weeks) and two way running. we have to keep Norf from getting a run on. IF we can block them up and not allow fast movement into the f50, we have a chance. Our midfield defence needs to be much better for this to happen. If they get heaps of uncontested marks we will lose badly. If we can win the contested ball and the clearances we have a slim chance (..of butchering the i50 delivery...) Not a game for the ages, by any stretch. Please give us some dignity, if not hope. No one ion their right mind expects a result.

Trade Max? No. He should be our captain. He is one of the top 2 in his position in the comp, and will be for the next 3 years. It raises some intersting concepts, though: Preuss needs to seriously lift around the ground to add value to the team. If he can do that, then Max gets to play for longer, and the pair could be the scariest thing in football. Preuss goes forward, Max drops a kick behind the contest. The midfield need to be better co-ordinated to take advantage of the taps to advantage. If Max gets 12 taps to advantage each game, and halves most of the rest, we should dominate clearances. At the moment we are not. We have no structure around the contest, just bodies thrashing about. If we learned how to position ourselves to Max’s taps, and also how to hold position so we could have a player ready to go on the outside, imagine what it would be like with the ball far more often deep in our forward half? We seem to be the worst team at contests inside 30m from goal. In defence, we bleed goals, and in attack, we cant seem to capitalise and score. Serious planning needs to go into our structures at these contests. Max is not bambi, he is the goose that lays golden eggs. We have to use his gifts better, not strangle him or sell him at the market.

Can’t be any worse...

Good on Lewis for going “Whack”. I am concerned that these attitudes were not spotted early, and dealt with. When you add this to the way the last pre-season was so poorly managed, I hope they come back from this year with a burning desire to turn this all around. There is no room for any hubris. The team was poor, the setup was poor and the results were poor. This has and will cost people their jobs. Any of them that come back other than 100% focused on doing everything that needs to be done should be sanctioned, and enjoy the windswept fields of Casey.

When do they do the exit interviews? Suspect there will be a few that will not be in the mood to party. Need some serious honesty, and clear the decks of those that are seriously gone with no trade value.

I reckon they will think they have it won already and could be vulnerable....

Sounds like Max will play (?WTF??!!). Chandler is out with a broken finger (how many times did Goody have to slam it in the locker, do you reckon?) SHould play Preuss and OMAc. Play Max forward, Omac on McFlopper and Frosty on Norton.

2020 Assistant Coach Prospects: The Next Batch
buck_nekkid replied to Lord Nev's topic in Melbourne Demons
Did i read up to 10 changes? Wowee! -
I know! Make him defensive coach! And lets make some mufti defender from menangatang the forwards coach. This is what we have done this year. I would bring him in as a specialist mentor and forward skills development.

A big thank you to JL. He came to the club and added real value on and off the field. He retires a legend of the game, and a valued contributor to the MFC. Sorry we couldn’t get you a flag this year, Jordie.

Total leadership spill. No one holds any position based upon the past. Leadership positions to be earned based upon actions around the team and on the track. real leadership on display on the paddock, but not ending there. Expect there to be a leadership group of May, Gawn TMac (Line generals) and one or two others (Lever? Viney?). But have to be earned from day 1 back at the club. C and VC decided from amongst the leadership group. Hard to lead that Rabble, regardless of who you are..

ANB can take him under his wing....

Casey Demons v Frankston - VFL Round 20

Bring ‘em all in! Hobart awaits... -
This. Lets see how deep they go - we made it to the Prelim and hit our wall, The doggies went 2 better and got the chocolates. Playing on emotion is a wonderful thing, but running out of puff is a real risk - as is dropping like a stone next year as often happens to rapidly rising teams (tiggers, doggies, dees, etc have all done it). However, they look good, and I like the way they are playing.

@Lucifer's Hero posted this at the start of the year, somehow it tells the tale of the tape before you add in injuries: The Roar has produced player list analysis: Team Profiles The Average isn't the best measure; I prefer The Mean Median. Nonetheless, the Roar tables are a good indicator of each team. I was a bit surprised to see Collingwood so high in the age profiles. The likes of Lewis and Jones are raising our age profile somewhat. For us to finish 4th in 2018 when on average age we were 9th and average experience we were 12th shows what a mighty effort it was by the club. An interesting comment from the article: "Overall the numbers hint at a few possible conclusions, one being that putting heavy 2019 expectations on the likes of Melbourne, Fremantle and Essendon because of their notable trade period recruits might be a little premature. Of these three sides, only one – Essendon – is in the top eight for age, and they are eighth. None is in the top eight for experience. That’s not to say that these lists aren’t capable of achieving great things in 2019, but instead that they are still some distance from hitting their high-water mark in terms of talent maturity". Nonetheless, the expectations on us will indeed be 'heavy' and we will rise to the occasion! Edit: change 'Mean' to 'Median' —- i find the line about expectations quite prescient in the article quoted. In 2020 we will lose Lewis, but have gotten games into lots of players. Hopefully this sets us up to be more competitive for longer.

How about give Rawlings a go as coach in the dead rubber?

A young man who was probably one of our best 3 players for most of the year. We have a number of key players who are ‘down’ on form - if they pick up, things will improve dramatically. Salem is a bit down, but it has been a hard year carrying this mob. Also down, by my reckoning: Brayshaw, Hunt, Hibbard, Melksham, ANB (so far down...), TMAC, Weid, Jones, Viney, Lever (injured, finding touch) We then have a whole string of VFL level players that we could carry one or two for roles, but not half a team., Seriously, we have been injured, out of form, and seriously down on confidence. We are approaching the most important off season in the last decade

Will you renew your membership in 2020?
buck_nekkid replied to Ethan Tremblay's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes. I will renew. -
There is nothing redeeming about that ‘performance’ tonight. We are supposed to be the clearance team - we got smashed We are supposed to be the tackling team - we got smashed We are supposed to be exciting and fluid - we were turgid Was it the lack of talent? The lack of cohesion? The lack of heart? The lack of skill? There is no spin for this one. I have always looked for the positives, but that was devoid of anything. I will be a member next year. It is hard to be a supporter, and I am not a fair weather follower.

How come every them we play has ‘promising youngsters’ and we have [censored]

We should dock their damned pay

Thank you game. Thanks for [censored] nothing

How am I sat I’ll watching this? Man. So poor.
-
This is simply disgusting. The panic, keystone cops fighting over the same ball. I cannot believe how poor this team is, in all aspects and phases. What a bunch of losers

Several players are stamping their papers tonight.
