Rewatched some of the game.... a glaring difference was THEIR general field kicking as compared to ours. They kicked to advantage easily 3 to 4 times more than we did. They were "on" ... we were a bit here , a bit there. This game was nothing particularly different in that respect imho. Our kicking / passing skills are... well, when they turn up I might know.

We are reaping the 'rewards' of that very mistake. Quite frankly it was amateur hour at the Dees.

Or.. we know our list ISN'T what some suppose and someone new needs to be involved with its betterment. The stewardship and oversight needs to change or we keep on keeping on. A new coach won't provide overnight success... but he'll change tacts and bring others on board both in assistance as well as a different brief for players. If a new coach etc next season I wouldn't expect to see real change til 27. But we'd see something. No change in coach.. same ol same ol I agree we're in far worse shape than many are prepared to accept

I know a good stat... it supports Outcome 😉 The rest are dubious and selective at best

On the weekend as my good wife and I made our way through the pokies at Brissy Casino to get to the skydeck... I was struck by an epiphany ( no one saw it and the offender got away... ) . Looking across the sea of blinking lights and cacophony of tunes it struck me. This is us. This is Melbourne ??? These intrepid warriors of chance sit there investing of themselves with or without luck. Some might after a not too long wait get a feature or two, some hit a Jackpot. Strangely many don't take it but see this as some devine sign of provenance and continue to 'reinvest' only to see it all dwindled away. They just didn't know when to call it quits. That's us... managed a jackpot but got caught up in the razamataz ( uh - ooh !! ) before you know it we back to where we were, struggle street. I'm not advocating Goody should have gone after 21. That's folly. But we were very lucky and the circumstances soon changed. We didn't, but all but everything around us did and we got caught napping. The writing for those literate in these things , was on the wall end of 23. It was. Some saw it then, many since are understanding it now. Sometimes you need to do things at the right time lest you're sitting there at a machine flashing "WINNER" ... but the money has somehow evaporated away. Oh.. the skydeck ...bit average. Loved Brissy. Go Dees Wake up ffs. Walk away 😉

I'm not at all focused on the next captain. I see it as a distant second to who's our next coach. Now I've no intention of derailing this thread to that effect but just wishing to posit that this ( captain) is not the problem of the hour. I can see Max playing out 300. As such the notion of next leader will probably sort itself out by then. Tbh... not seeing any slam dunk selection just atm. Many possibilities all come with their own issues. Next Captain??? There was definitely a sycronicity of sorts. Also a kinda perfect storm. Personnel, Performance, Motivation and Circumstance. We won... and then that all dissipate. Some aspects quickly as other teams unravelled us and our own followed. The stars aligned. Now they don't

Lindsay is a very good player in the making ( hopefully ).. But 6 years ... tbh i can't see Max there in 6 ( or 5 as the logic of notion suggests ) He'll be a (crossed fingers and toes) 300 game champ.. Interesting you see him going longer. Who knows 🤷‍♂️ 👍

Hmm.. He speaketh of bias... lampoons those that don't bow to the God 'Stats' Fair dinkum I've yet to see anyone so blind they will not look with open eyes and understand that which befalls them. No... one must stay glued to stats written in Braille. The nutshell of our predicament is we play an incomplete style of football and do so without the requisite skill. We are the epitome of hit and miss. And the scoreboard backs that up. As many others suggest throw away the data and just note how and when we score. No so much a stat ( though i could see someone making it one ) but a come and go trend. Look how we've given teams headstarts. How often do teams score on rebounding our f@#!! up fwd entries ?? How often we go thin not fat or too fat and not straighten up in time. We're trying to cook to recipe without all the ingredients. No one needs a pencil and paper , or tablet, to understand us. Just watch. I'm sure that's all the opposition really does. A picture paints a 1000 words... observation makes for squillions. We play a game of footy of cheques we can't cash. This needs to change. Bin I beseech you good man. Step away from the numbers, just for a while.

And it is outcome based. Really what other metric is there at this level. Club footy, country teams are much more than simply the scoreboards they're about social fabric and neighbourly comraderies. AFL...it's the elite pointy end and it is very simply about winning. Competing alone is not enough. As such it goes beyond 'personalities' as the driver. No only is it about outcomes it's about elements. What are the essentials to win ? The team and the method. These can be any as long as they work. Once they don't you seek those that do. To be cliche it's not personal and possibly this is where too many get caught up with our current demise. But ...but.. Simon's a nice guy, he's trying, he's only human... on and on. They're irrelevant . He's had a go. Managed a Flag ( with a lot of help ) but he did. Since then he hasn't provided the required outcomes. The logical next step stares all in the face. The club needs to take it.... if they want better outcomes.

Someone gets it. Astute observation; knowledgably interpretated and very well articulated. Instead of leading folk down the rabbit hole of mumbo jumbo new-science explanations ( ne excuses ) here we have an opinion ( we all have them) which seeks to simply pull back the curtains and see what is , for what it is. But imho... here an opinion is underwritten by actually pointing out the matters of fact. It's akin to a cerebral sorbet when many and sundry continually offer up trifled treatments. Been over since the opening 5 games. Just has. But it's not all doom and gloom. Is a lovely sunny winters day up here in Qld. Apparently all but an hour away some clown mob in red and blue played at playing football. Alas...no chocolates. The Dees wouldn’t come to the party but I had one , well a very nice lunch at Ciao Papi on the Brissy River with family and friends. See....you can enjoy football. Just don't watch us !! Insensitive some might protest. Well not nearly as much as the contempt shown by Melbourne to it's supporters. I truly salute those that ventured down the road. I do. You'll excuse me , I have a dinner to get ready for. The players got their just desserts ... I've yet to ponder mine. Maybe Tiramasu or a moorish Creme Brulee ...mmmmm It's a Grand ol' .. Never underestimate the effect a coach has ON players. There is undeniable talent on the list ( though arguably not as great a list as some suppose ) but the current folk in charge only manage what we witness, which is quite frankly rubbish football.
