The problem Dr ... is I think a lot of people have been burnt over the years and unrelenting trust is not embedded. I love the club, the jumper but we can be as wonky as all get go in terms of management. Look at us now.

You grant far too much kudos to our coaching. Our forward craft is in a word, pathetic . In so far as being useful at AFL level our forward structure and training ( might as well throw in selection ) is immature. There's NO ONE there capable of instructing JVR or any really in anything useful. He's getting "Melbourned" .... royally

Lately ??? It's a perennial paradigm of purgatorial persistence. Dees selection does my head in week in week out. I've come to believe it's a deliberate ploy designed to confuse. It's working.

Agreed ... many moons ago a fairly decent kick for goal mentored some of us schoolkids . Among the lessons given was goal kicking. Apart from the mechanical aspects of good kicking there was what I suppose the mental aspects. The guidance he offered was indeed the time honoured... pick someone or something if a set shot. On the run generally to pick the middle. There was discussion about allowing for wind. The best advice was practice. Especially on effectively crappy days. My parents never quite understood my enthusiasm for trapsing over to the oval on windy/rainy days... or both... LyreBird in hand ( Sherrins were an unknown luxury for a kid.. though later was given a Ross Faulkner ) Practice I did... a lot. I think it paid dividends in the years after. I wonder just how much our players practice kicking ..and goal kicking....in all weather's. Or do.they think they've done enough !! Any sport...needs continued vigilance. Vexed at best I concede. My take... Different Coach , different approach , different directions. Funny you mention vibe as that can be a thing . I.e It becomes part if the framework of the thinking of all. "This is how we train, this is what's expected, this is how we play" Anyone who's played team sports can understand the difference in buzz between clubs. So with a change of Coaching/Mentoring can come different outcomes. I really don't think our forward patterns are much if they even exist. The list does need augmenting as well.

Tbh I thought Jmac was quite fair. That's the damning element. I believe the word we seek for hairman is 'Lacklustre' It's like this club plays with a permanent cold. Underachieving is US!! I'm sure it's not intentionally the case but Fritta really seems to just pick his involvement in the game. Given what we see I deem that fair comment.

Totally agree. . If he has some of Roo's devil may care he might be a very different player but all too often looks like a deer in headlights out there. Not all are at home on the big stage. He strikes me as one. Bit of a shame as he has ability. Not always enough.

In the case of the Suns their trajectory was 'this tain not going ( well going nowhere of interest) " Then along came someone with a different approach and different style and has crafted a very different team out of essentially the same ( in the main ) list. There is the guts of a decent list at Melbourne, though there's some decent pruning that could be had. It's more about what one person envisions and builds as opposed another. I don't think anyone is suggesting SG can't coach but it certainly appears from my seat that he's exhausted what works, as he can create it. There has always been some interesting aspects to his approach. Some were cruelly erased the AFL and rules. Some are again effective but only as components of a game plan. An entire one that works well and consistently is absent. What once worked now doesn't. Perhaps it was only ever going to achieve success for a limited period and that's passed. Bit like fashion in a way.

Really hurting the Suns eh Ppl need to get over this ridiculous supposition an AFL is some sort of social construct. It's a professional sporting BUSINESS. Local footy clubs are social entities. AFL is for those in big boys pants and if any and all can't abide by the expectations and rewards/redundancy that they demand then they're in the wrong business, or certainly the wrong level.

There is no way in the world a bottom eight finish is considered a pass. As it is we'll more than likely finish bottom 4. Two words ABJECT FAILURE You do NOT reward failure.

I agree. As mentioned earlier... Adhoc changes just cause calamity. I'm all for rotating personnel through roles ( esp if season is stuffed anyway... and imho.. it's belly up ) but do so in blocks. If nothing else is better for assessment. Results may vary but a better understanding of how well the individual coped, indeed how group setups and synchronicities fared is more likely

Not directly.. comparing their development in terms of progress. Weed didn't develop much past where he got to in 3 seasons.. Roo has stagnated in a similar manner My point , or contention is has Roo already met his ceiling... as Weed did ?
