Stats can be misleading can't they ....

Time to go Goody?
And it is outcome based. Really what other metric is there at this level. Club footy, country teams are much more than simply the scoreboards they're about social fabric and neighbourly comraderies. AFL...it's the elite pointy end and it is very simply about winning. Competing alone is not enough. As such it goes beyond 'personalities' as the driver. No only is it about outcomes it's about elements. What are the essentials to win ? The team and the method. These can be any as long as they work. Once they don't you seek those that do. To be cliche it's not personal and possibly this is where too many get caught up with our current demise. But ...but.. Simon's a nice guy, he's trying, he's only human... on and on. They're irrelevant . He's had a go. Managed a Flag ( with a lot of help ) but he did. Since then he hasn't provided the required outcomes. The logical next step stares all in the face. The club needs to take it.... if they want better outcomes.

Time to go Goody?
Someone gets it. Astute observation; knowledgably interpretated and very well articulated. Instead of leading folk down the rabbit hole of mumbo jumbo new-science explanations ( ne excuses ) here we have an opinion ( we all have them) which seeks to simply pull back the curtains and see what is , for what it is. But imho... here an opinion is underwritten by actually pointing out the matters of fact. It's akin to a cerebral sorbet when many and sundry continually offer up trifled treatments. I wish more would read your post @Howard_Grimes as to use a oft quoted idiom. You've nailed it Excellent post. Thankyou

Not trying to seem facetious , truly not but I will ask THE question and it's really the only one: Why, why the same same same maladies ?? Aren't there people ; professional types, specifically employed to oversee and fix these things ?? And then there's us. Ahhh... uber here...

POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast
Been over since the opening 5 games. Just has. But it's not all doom and gloom. Is a lovely sunny winters day up here in Qld. Apparently all but an hour away some clown mob in red and blue played at playing football. Alas...no chocolates. The Dees wouldn’t come to the party but I had one , well a very nice lunch at Ciao Papi on the Brissy River with family and friends. See....you can enjoy football. Just don't watch us !! Insensitive some might protest. Well not nearly as much as the contempt shown by Melbourne to it's supporters. I truly salute those that ventured down the road. I do. You'll excuse me , I have a dinner to get ready for. The players got their just desserts ... I've yet to ponder mine. Maybe Tiramasu or a moorish Creme Brulee ...mmmmm It's a Grand ol' .. It's a G̶r̶a̶n̶d̶ o̶l̶d̶ team... just, barely.. Anyone recommend the replay ?

Time to go Goody?
Never underestimate the effect a coach has ON players. There is undeniable talent on the list ( though arguably not as great a list as some suppose ) but the current folk in charge only manage what we witness, which is quite frankly rubbish football.

Corporate responsibility is to get the best return.

PREGAME: Rd 1 6 vs Gold Coast
I'm like minded tbh. Love to see him roam across half forward with licence. Actually think this might be his best home going forward.

Training Ground?
It was very much wokey virtue signalling by the MFC. There was no compulsion to do so. Gambling can be a problem without doubt. It's also a personal decision. As a business decision... it's dubious that we benefit.

Yes and no... donning the hat of advocates'r'hellish I'd counter that many of what are purported as 'facts' might be nothing more than FootballDept/ Coaches preferences/ prejudices. There's a lot to suggest that any and many an opinion of a poster might be reasoned as just as valid as we base a lot on what we see in a game. Selection might well be in line with what the brains trust thinks is best. Again... I'd return that serve with what if they've got their ideas blatantly wrong ? The scoreboard certainly isn't supporting the brains trust.

MEMBERSHIP TALLY 2025
I dunno... Success makes many a bedfellow .. If we end up bottom 4 ( again ).. If Goody is "backed" by the club... then many more will back away in 26. ( many!! ) We'll struggle.

We're Not Dead Yet - The 2025 Season
Probably the only game Voss is looking forward to. We ought to be, but we know better 😉

So being blunt what is the point of Sharp? There is much to be mystified by O.D. at Melbourne. We are that team that dares where others don't, tread where others won't. We're Demons unafraid of going to Hell in a handbasket as we already reside there. Ego is not a dirty word at Melbourne but the Logical song never gets an airing. Watching the Dees we're just a horror movie right there on the TV

PREGAME: Rd 1 6 vs Gold Coast
Oh it is ... I can only work with what's there 😉 I'm not intrinsically negative as a person. I'm a realistic. You know... see spade call spade. I see no purpose or gain doing otherwise. Strangely despite following Melbourne for over 60 years I do barrack for them even when I know at the time futility is more likely the result than success. With careers including Engineering I am very used to quickly arriving at observations acknowledging what is...is.. and from that what needs to be done. Unfortunately for me that kind of ability only sets me up for a lot of frustrating disappointment. So Ghosty, it is 😉 But I appreciate football is far from perfect and in that manner we at Melbourne excel. As football following suggests one game at a time ( invented by a shoddy dodgy salesman no doubt ) we will see what Sat brings. Go us. Maybe I get an unexpected present. Enjoy the game. Thankyou for your contribs :)

Good to see some change. Lever hasn't been right all along, much the pity. I'd have liked to see Tommy back. Not sure how this setup.will go but let's see. Kudos for trying. Proof of pudding in the eating. Hope we aren't the entre mains and dessert.

MEMBERSHIP TALLY 2025
Might well there be some ( late arrivals for finals ) the damage to the membership total is not from them. It is literally by those disenfranchised by the club or where they ( lost members ) see it. I.e... they were never renewing this season. As with much at Melbourne, the trend is down. A reality is money is money. People can get tired of throwing their hard earned away.

Training Ground?
The Gov .. all of them, love gambling, love tobacco, love alcohol. Only have to judge by actions ( inaction ) and all that taxation revenue. Very naughty of the fun police going around pointing guns at heads making people do these incorrigible things. Bastards !!

Time to go Goody?
My exact concern regarding the conundrum. If we're not seriously considering paying him out ... then 26 is a waste of time, effort, money and the limited life of players. There's more at play and stake than Goodwin. Need to step back and view the club holistically imho. I feel many aren't.

Harry McKay leaving Blues?
In a bizarre alignment of astronomical boulders I do tend to agree with Mr Bin. Our problem is more craft than personnel. Throwing a more than decent import into the fire but continuing our current game... wellllll... just find a brick wall. Better solutions...
