There's a number of things which I must confess im really impressed by at the moment with the MFC. Despite the club rhetoric ( aka public spin for fast-fooders ) there was to Freddy and all of his game-observant footy mates a glaring deficiency in our defence. Ill give Oscar his due, he did his role quite well...but there was another role which we had no one for. And there not being a fully conscripted defence opened us up. When we bled we haemorrhaged ..badly for 4-6 goals at a time. Game killers So three things in this instance: Identifying, the role Identifying a player Getting said player Three for three !!!

Jaded's comment had a context. One you plainly ignored or dont get. I.e The reference was to his Football. He IS after an AFL player of particular ability ( the realisation is another thing ). In that light he has decided he'd rather play footy at "home" with some "mates" in front of 'family" yep they're the three things I always look for in an elite player. The absolute irony is that the whole idea of ( Mfc ) Esprit de Corps IS ...playing with mates, who are your football family and the MCG is HOME. So his priorities are his and his in kind, but for us they're threes strikes he's out.

He's moved on to the next chapter. I'm sure he'd always be welcome as a friend of Melbourne, if nothing else. We have our lives to live as he has his.

The club ISNT going with 3 talls in 19... therefore we aren't looking for one. The expectations are the forward 'group' will kick goals among them. We'll only be looking to develop other forwards should either Tmac or Weed goes down.

There's an aspect to this which I'm not sure if already mentioned. Leadership. We just poached a Captain. Someone with real leadership ability. We bemoan the lack of leadership at times...well.. here's some.

We're not going to play with a 3 KP talls forward in 19. We'll use 2 talls with a floating utility..coming through with the play. They'll be a spread of goal kickers..Much harder to defend...more unpredictable eh Mr Smith
