  1. Beat freo ?? hmmm !! Freo have at least been reasoanbly competitive and looked like being in the mix. They have far more fit cattle than we do ( well...who doesnt ) and thats cant bode well. The only thing going for us will be its at the G....but anyone who doesnt allow for Tarrant at this ground does so at their own peril, he loves this place and the purple mob have been waiting for him to turn it on. Im afraid it could get a bit ugly.
  2. We do indeed have a very strange situation at Deeland at present. You would need to be the most optomistic person on earth to think Danners wil lbe at the helm next year. And this is part of the conundrum as I have no problems with him per se...just as the coach. he is genuinely respected and liked around the club and indeed would quite happily shout the bloke a beer, however, his effectiveness has come to a crashing finality. Thats just a reality. Results speak for themselves. RR makes salient points. This must be handled with professionalism. The current MFC admin seem quite capable of this. Should we get to the point where mid season we are but the holder of but a token amount of wins with no chance what so ever ( and this unfortunately looks very likely ) of making the 8 let alone being effective with it then the process of change must begin. To wait until the end of the year whilst commendable for stoicly upholding the "honour" of the contract is foolhardy in its practice. Time as always is of the essence. There will begin a weeding out process along with a change of coach. The incumnats will need to have some opportunity of manouvring Melbourne into some position of gain come trade and drafts etc. This cant be an 11th hour 59 minute approach the minute a new general is appointed. He must e given some real chance of getting value at the end of the season. Danners must appreciate that his tenure is coming to a close. The ND era has not delivered on the rhetoric. Its been pretty well 10 years of standing still. I have no idea who will head the coaches next year but it must surely pay dividends for MFC to clear its deck as soon as posible and make plain its intention s to the football community at large, by doing so we may then position our self well in the orchestrations and "fun and games " of personnel recruiting. Neale...youre a nice bloke and thanks very much for all the things you did off field for the club, but even you would admit that the results are not what you hoped for. Its time for some new blood. cheers
  3. All teams proud and bountiful All players tall and small All plans wise and workable The Reverend made them all Each little play we try and do Each little kick to you The Reverend and his mighty team Have failed to learn anew The lush green covered alter The Yarra running by The sunset on another year The Reverend’s made us cry The cold wind in the outer The pleasant sound of song The lofty cup of AFL Has been not ours too long With hearts and eyes we go and see Our hope is ever more The Reverend’s time may have come at last Its what we all long……. for Amen !!!
  4. couldnt agree more...its like give a man a fish..feed him for day...teach him to fish and he's fed for life... :-)) Whether its Mathews or someone else.. i like the general thinking.. Invest in a coach that will instill a winning way..and we get much better value...and a legacy
  5. i just took it as a couple of options...not necessarily at same time
  6. for whats its worth it was kinda interesting to hear the thoughts of someone current in the game as to how they might use our blokes ( well whats left of them!! ) They're gunna find it very easy to make a statue of the rev one day....... well...he's already set ( in his ways ) in concrete
  7. as good as Judd is....one man for a lot of money ...is not the solution for a team ( unless its the coaching job!! )
  8. yep ...fully aware he was a part timer.. ..part of what I thought was a good idea... " band of mentors" 5 mins with Newman is going to be more insightful than 5 months with Leigh..thats just a reality. Newman brings vast experience and understanding of the game.. .. enough said !!
  9. I like this idea of shifting Aaron back to the back flank.. in polace of someone like Doggy. I suspect Davey likes a bit of space... gives him better chance to gauge the ball and the players in teh vicinity..and then he's like a falcon ..he's there..and nabbed them.. turned it over etc.. ..with his pace he can be at the wing or forward even more ramming it down someones throat ...he has the capacity to follow up and take the 1-2 and finish off as well. he will drown on the forward line I fear...he has the makings of an abolsute gun of a rebounding half back
  10. i reckon raw players are like veggies ( food ) in that you got to pick them at the right time... and use them when prime...or they just go a bit off.. its like saying...we'll pick them in 4-2-6 !!
  11. I thought getting Sammy was actually quite inspired... No disrespect intended to Leigh.. but !! we are trying to play in the same league as others arent we ?? <_<
  12. im still not sure what to say to that .. are we back to raffles and whip arounds to pay for jumpers ?? thats just plain idiotic !! its not still April 1 is it ? (post aimed at the idea that Juice is our ruck coach!! )
  13. unfortunately unlike some past occasions when we've faced enemies depleted.. we now have the handicap of our top two goal kickers missing physically...and half the rest just missing in action.. that my fellow Dees is a sad reality.
  14. Redleg is right on the mark here.. we as a club seem to wait for some ...i dunno...some sign from god.. or should that be from the other way ( lol ) before we trot our youth out. It reminds me of folk having kids...waiting for the right time in their lives...trust methere is no such thing.. nor do I suspect at times is there in footy with the kids. Some HAVE the spunk and raw talent very early, but if you sit on it too long the shine soon turns to tarnish. I was very interested to see how these kids went for the wobblies..and they actually made a difference, they werent along for the ride. some seem to think many of us are throwing in the towel by suggesting we play a little more youth, rough and raw as it might be. Quite the contrary, we're actually proposing we attack, that we dont surrender by simply trotting out the same ol suspects etc. The oppo coaches have all these guys worked out to a T , why not do something a little less expected. This club loves to protect a losing position rather than risk the chance to gain a winning one. Like much in life in order to go forward and gain you have to move out of your comfort zone. Unfortuantely it seems the comfort zone for the MFC is to finish outside the four in the nowheres ..and end up with nothing !! but hey..its nice and comfy !!
  15. ya know...i cant help but feel this is symtomatic of much that is quite frankly wrong with the Dees. Both the fact that Trav's attitude can be "his personality " ...and that the Coach simply accepts this as OK...or if not Ok..simply par of his make up. I know this will sound ridiculously trite...but as a kid I was told time and time again...'stand up straight...dont slouch !!"... this was not only a posture thing....but it was about your attitude..of what was basically acceptable and what wasnt.. and the flipside to this is what you as the individual expect to gain by it. Dropping your head is never a good thing for mine.. It just screams ..'giving in" ..( even if temepred by frustration ) When your allowed to stand on the pitch with hands on hips pondering what might have been...you've lost the mental game already and the other is only a matter of time. Not good enough MFC..
  16. interestingly at the Hun's tipsters page ( online ) everyone including the kiss of death is against us.... what do we read into it when even Mr G Reaper cant put a kind word in ?? lol
  17. John...thanks for your insights. agree nothing ever in life is cut and dried is it..always some extenuating circumstance or influence. Your view im interested in on thsi matter..as might we all. Is it simply a case though that should you cross that white line... then all that happens as a result is up for scutiny without reserve to all of the above type conditions ? Most of us are monday morning experts.. with any or all of what football experience probably past and not of the level you played at ( I dont count my Richmond little league appearances of over 35 years ago as all that much !! lol )... so in that light are we over merciless ( translate passionate and blinkered ) or is it very much a case of you payz ya money ya get to make the call ?
  18. the omen is we win the toss...lose the game !! lol aww..c'mon folk...we have to laugh...lol.. ( no more tears left..lol )
  19. real scenario.... time taken to get over injury.. add time for getting match fitness and up to speed. A speedy recovery Robbo :-)
  20. he's been around ten years...he's not effective
  21. Sylvia seems to be flying under the radar at present.....they are keeping the wraps on this guy. Agree..Sore ?? what multitude of physical deficiencies is this meant to cover ? Is that like the guy who said...honeslty officer i tripped and fell...then stumbled into the door ?
  22. what did you expect.. he was there mainly in the context of the coaches assoc. ..that...and what is he going to do...even if he did have any real surprises he's hardly likely to let anything out of the bag. just another affable display by the likeable coach ( effective NO...likeable yes )
