  1. Word has it that the football dept consider him a young kid who has some good pace, agility and big ( proven whilst carrying drinks btw) He kicked two goals in his first match with the Casey 2nds before succumbing to his affliction The FD will continue to develop him as a second-year player on Melbourne’s list and ought to be right in 4 to 6 .. only missing the start of the preseason. He will be on a modified program. Apparently a few other clubs have had scouts appraising this lad so maybe a trade isnt out of the realms of possibility. More a late 2nd round possibly,,, but with the clubs new electric buggy( to carry things ) they might be open to all offers. edit: well that late breaking news confirms my sources. Good luck on the Gold Coast Marty... and you'll probably have to seek a new personal sponsor... maybe XXXX instead of the current VB-Mid !!
  2. I tend to agree...if Bails has a wiff and was determiend to retain Brocks services then he'd be here. Obviously it wasnt all as happy camping at the Junction Oval as we may have thought..lol. Someone in that midfield had to go.. Brock drew that straw
  3. To be fair I think he said that when we only had 1 2 and 18.. but now its 1 2 11 and 18 ..jsut for starters you have to think it only sensible to re-evaluate what migh tbe around with utilising 18 and 34. Not saying we will but then who'd have thought today we would be including 11 and excluding Borck even 4 days ago ? Things change
  4. To be honest I dont think you can fixate wholy and fastly on pick 11 as being the litmus. Many great players have come along at much pater and some duds earlier. To suggest its more than half of all picks 11 or bust cant really hold. What we now get is another pick to shore up our prospects at a time when any picks are in short supply. Just ask half the other clubs as to how they see the next 5 years !! We now have greater trade currency and/or draft potential.. all of this might well put us in touch with a player who will more than compensate for the loss of an adequate if not consistently brilliant player. Its more about the mix than any one player in particular.. no man is an island and no player is a team!!
  5. from same article: "It is understood two Melbourne-based clubs, who played in the finals, are now circling after initially believing Lake had been secured by the Bulldogs. " thats not us !!!
  6. Most likely scenario is indeed he goes to the sqawkers but it might cost them more in the trade now as Port will think....hmm.. the Dees could part with 11.. what will Hawthorn deal up ?. Makes their dealings costlier I would have thought. As they say...its never over til its over.
  7. just to throw the cat amongst the pidgeons.... How much more currency do we have should we want him ( if indeed we do ) now we have pick 11 ?
  8. You raise a very valid concern. Stability. That will come as a result of all the work thats happened/happening to reconstruct the list. well my view of course. I think the idea invoked here by the club is to establish a core of newer kids who will gell and mature together creating a nucleus around which any more delisitngs/fine tuning etc will be done. As I view it the hard work is done, well will be at drafts end. We will have an incredibly furtive list. I honestly cant remember a time when Melbourne will forge a new era with such a consistent spread. Very few cloggers and they will be the fodder and/or opportunity to replenish as time goes on. But to the essence of your point , the stability will build. Any changes here on (post draft ) will be less intrusive. Its probably this very stability we've lacked. We have had glimpses of decent footy but not coherence one week to the next. Albeitly there has always been the overture of ladder position but weve been very up and down. I honestly expect this to abate as season '10 takes hold and the team bonds. Stability will be a happy result of this.
  9. Scully : Trengove :D Talia B) Temel Daw
  10. The world and the lifeforms upon it evolve. As is often quipped the only constant is change. It's this very adaption that ensures the continual existence of many a species as to remain unchanged is to ensure their demise as their predators will have the time to hone their lethal craft. Football is no different. Financial climates, locational demograhics, lifestyle choices have all created an environment that fuels constant change for the game and if it changes then so too must players and the clubs they represent. To stand still is to be a target. Change is not only necessary but desirable. Those that embrace the notion that in order to go forward know then that you can't sit still or neglect the constant management of the advancement of your resources. In order to reap you must first sew. There have been distinct periods in recent history of this most illustrious club, MFC, that have driven many to question whtether we would ever enjoy the basking in warmth of daylight or seem perpetually imprisoned in the cold of listless darkness. The club seemed stalled for many years both corporately and sportingly or as some would have it, we were going nowhere fast. Luck and fortune is often built upon the practice of not so much 'not doing things wrong' as Doing things right. They seem the same but they arent. The differ in confidence and direction. One is dictated to by fear of wrongdoing and the second is empowered by the inner beleif that you have it right. I believe that now, the Melbourne Football Club is gettting it right. So much really has been achieved in these past few years. The makeup and design of the Football Dept has brought many dividends. The change of personnel at the helm and management has inject new verve and unswaying belief that Melbourne, as a football club , can not only remain viable but will actually become a force to be reckoned with. It also realised that the pain necessary to endure for this to transpire was not quite over. More change was/is required. In order to improve something you either completely redesign it or modify some of its componentry. You can then further refine its abilites with "tweaking" or fine adjustment. But it must first be sound. What we are now seeing as season 09 , for the MFC, has ended is the continual redesign of the player-group. The machine that is the team simply wasnt up to the task at hand ( winning) and needed overhaul. With trading all but seemingly already underway and the mouth watering prospects of the upcoming drafts to add to rebuilding process we are I sense truly out of the Darkness and looking upon a new Dawn. Yes, we have said this before but hindsight shows us these were false dawns as we hadnt really changed. We have now. There will be many a member and spectator alike who will grieve the loss of a favoured player. They may indeed dissent against the club but I'd suggest they lose sight of the bigger picture and the Club , indeed its team is bigger than the individual player. In order to make an ommelette you have to crack eggs. In order to go forward you have to change. Those that still harbour the pain of feeling dispossesed by recent events, or indeed the lacklustre performances ( or seemingly so !! ) of the last seasons then take heart the aspirations of seasons 2010 and on are much different from that which we have had to collectively endure. There is indeed much to draw upon and instill us all with more than reasonable expectations of success from here on in. There has been change and that change was desperately necessary. Much kudos to the club's hierachy, itself a product of change. We were once a team who wrote their own destiny. That is about to happen again. Go Dees !!
  11. Marty McGurk Marty missed round one, and unfortunately never really recovered from his in-grown toenail, and was off mid season to have some surgery. Upon his return to the club from his convalescence on Koh Samui he got down to business. He has shown great dedication and application whilst carrying the drinks for the Scorpions reserves and showed much promise in his limited cameo runs later in the year at Casey. 2010 will be his chance at a break out year and hopefully will rise to the attention of the football dept and spectators alike as nobody really seems to have heard of NoName. -Seen Someone on melbournefc.com.au
  12. The Col Sylvia Xpres has arrived at the station. A little late but with a head of steam raring to go again. Looking forward to his ( hopefully ) continued rise in '10.
  13. My thoughts exactly, really thought he would take the opportunities this year and step up and cement that position. He didnt. I dont htink he can. Happy to trade
  14. dare I say it.. Melbourne: Brock Mclean ... traded
  15. just as a what if.. Should it be Garland then Id be a tad disappointed..but then we havent had him this year..either. Who's to say whether he'll ever really get over his foot etc. ...alas...a little rain must fall .."lol".. Change is a bit like that. Rather keep him..but wont lose sleep
  16. what ...you only bet one carton ??? .. you could put your house on that one !!
  17. probably not...they'll find another avenue..another ...legless rumour.. another over the top rant. Still i..its s forum.. its what happens
  18. I as well come back after a little sojourn and..whoa there buddy...are we on the right stage coach here..lol Well.. its certainly interesting isnt it. Hannibal & Co.. I love this time too ..lol..well if youre not in finals that is. SO many posters ...so much emotion...so very littel reality or common sense. There is some and I wont embarrass you by naming..you know who you are Firstly. Thanks Brock for your time at Melbourne... you now join an illustious lot who have defected from Melbourne to Carlton.. and only one do I forgive.. all hail Barrass Still good luck in your endeavors and thanks for the donation.. no really..thanks !! Dont really care why he's going I simply look at the positives, Still if he left for money...good faustian luck with that. If he left for a run in a possible grand final.. again good luck with that... but we'll win one before that lot will If he left because he didnt really like the way Bailey runs things....then the sooki-la-la queue is >>>>>> way !! :D Im over it already. Dissapointed in many ways too but more in that he never really quite emulated his better games for nearly long enough.I too thought he would amout to more...but he hassnt. Such is life and on we move. To garner pick 11 is really pretty good all things considered. As others allude we can now have our cake and eat it too and probably spring for a few frothies while we're at it Its about the CLUB...about the game...and then the player. Seems at long last this club is getting its act together and proceeding in that manner. Well done to all involved at the MFC.. Go Dees
  19. Dr..if you bothered to read.. I was looking past the highlights reel !! :rolleyes; I came across him some whiles back when Aunty was showing games form all over.. I watched many that featured Gumby. He has a raw talent. He could have been much better mentored and coached but has done quite well with what he had to go with. So less of the sarcasm and more of the addresing of the subject at hand..huh . What drew me to Daw in the first place was the parallel with Gumby but in this instance we have the talent at an earlier juncture. When you see what some decent players were at "that"raw young time in their career and you observe what Daw and similar have you cant but wonder what they might become.
  20. Frawley is case in point as to why you/we/all have to give some of these kids a few good preseasons and some decent plays time to see where they are really at. hey..am as guilty as the next having said that some kids just wont make it... CHIPS will
  21. bothered to watch much of Gumby ?? I have.. whenever he was on Aunty.. . Highlights vid aside his accomplishments are quite decent. Magumbwa could easily have played AFL had he been introduced to footy earlier... just like a certain MD !! Theres a type of athleticism in them we see rarely in our footy
  22. yes... of course they are..but WJ is allowing us to discuss them one by one as to Cale...much improved.. Seems to be developing stature. I think he really undrstands his role now. Look forward to his 2010 onwards
  23. oh....times 100 I can feel a bit of mercurial chemistry in the making there... those that understand synergy will be salivating
  24. geez...you must have a sore head bashing that brickwall..lol. Yoiu and a fwe others ( humbly include muself ) seem a lil alone in a rational approach to appraisals. Brocky is good...not great.. he is problematic with regard some injuries..and thats worrysome. I too raised the spectre elsewhere of .."how do we fit the likes of all Jones, Beamer , Brocky etc ..into the new look "effective" midfield ? And its damn hard to filed a compelling argument for a few.. and that includes McLean. Id be quite happy if the bluebaggers were dumb enough to offer us 11. wonder if this really has legs ?? hmm we'll see...somehow doubt it... but then..............
  25. review 10.... not doing a 9 ??
