  1. Intersting that we havent heard confirmation of the Brock deal.. Must , to me , mean theres more associated with it now with interest in Buckley and Bell. Really thought the McLean- pick 11 deal would have pre-empted teh Gibson announcement.
  2. Only one thing springs to mind for mine as to why theFD would retain Miller in any battle plans. His forte is the lead up mark, he does posess a pretty good pair of mitts...his feet are awkward. If however you are in possession of the ball at or around 50-60 and have a flurry of fleet-footed fellows able to deliver to targets then his ( Miller's ) preference to off load could be turned from a handicap to a weapon. If they ( either the FD or the presence of talented mids , or both..lol ) can magically arm him with confidence to play on immediately instead of taking a half-hour survey then he may well yet earn his keep. I cant think of any other reason for him being "required"
  3. I'll preface this by suggesting this as a thread is about any particular person or club but of the clubs and how they see the potential mothballing of conventional drafts as either an opportunity or a storm to be ridden out. Im placing it (thread) in draft and trade as the change in the landscape of drafting will affect the potential to compensate in the short term. Obviously some of the predisposition towards looming drafts must be annexed to the relative ranking on the ladder of any given team. But this then too must be garnished by how that team is placed even now and before the draft or indeed the conclusion of this week's trade. We at Melbourne I would proffer see this draft and trade week as a giant opportunity the likes of which we havent and are unlikely to see repeated for a long long time. Our own performance of recent years has contrinuted to the prize of 1 & 2. Its debatable as to whther the AFL will allow any continuance of this 'prize' in its current form to persist after the moratorium of the "loaded" drafts so we may well be the last recipients of this icing & cake combo. We have in all likelyhood two more picks under 20 to come as well. We are finishing off a major rebuild.. we arent in all probability going to be placed or primed sufficient to tackle serious finals activity for 3-4 years. I would say however we are looking at this week and the coming months with great expectations..we see it as a positive. I dont know that all clubs will see it this way. Not all are blessed with as many draft picks . Some are double troubled by not having bult up much in the way of stocks in the last few years to enable them to weather out the next 5. Richmond comes to mind here. In hindsight they have trade poorly and had a couple of misfires in recent drafts. Wheels have fallen off their wagon and the clouds are dark. I would want to be a Toige. Fremantle and North are curiosities here. North seemingly at the birth of some form of rennaisance strike me as much smoke without fire. Recent delistings and movings on suggest they will be underpowered unless they sure-shoot at this coming draft. They do, like the Dees, have some kids in waiting but their star quality is waning. If we expect something in 3-4 I would think liek richmond they are at least 5-6 away. Fremantle is like the tide, one moment high the next you struggle to see water let alone waves. They seem to lack depth and despite having a number of very good players coherency and continued form stability ( of any note) . The coach is as much an enigma as his team, they must surely be looking to the skies and praying for some blue. A handful of teams must feel they are well situated to make it though the next years either seemingly in tact and capable of sustained eight activity of requiring only a top up and tinkering to maintain this. Geelong, St Kilda, Dogs and Adelaide to me fit this scenario. I think they will just take the ensuing years as they come before needing a major overhaul. They would see no storm...just a bit of rain. There a couple of teams who for mine are a little too optimistic about where their lists really are. Collinwood and Carlton. In any ones book they would be about 3/4 of the way there but reality suggests they are both shy oof 2 good KPP's and both might be about to lose one. Both teams are caught somewhat in no mans land going forward and might find themselves subject to some turbulence. Both will find the coming times a lot more inclement than they suspect. Their club-egos may preveting them from accepting that they arent as cemented in the 8 as they consider. Quite succintly Port is going to suffer hypotherrmia if it doesnt address its needs with some judicious drafting. I think it knows it and this is why it needs the best deal form Hawthorn of whomever. They too are looking aprehensively towards the skies. Im inclined to lump the likes of Essendon, Sydney , Brisbane and Hawthorn into a shared outlook. All have the ability to climb if only steadily over the next few and with inpsired drafting/trading over the next few ought to be able to make a decent fist whilst GC and WS suck the life out of the talent pool. Syd is probably the poorest placed in this lot but they have a knack of remaining bouyant. I think this will continue even if the sea gets beyond choppy. Teams looking to finals in the next 2-3 may see the coming storm as just an annoyance, teams looking to rebuild must be concerned as opportunities will be thin on the ground unless they have already made provisions. Teams floating around the middle must be crossing their collective fingers.. thast my view on this...whats yours
  4. Miller has historically taken most of his marks further than kicking distance...( in fact half way to the locker rooms we all seemed to think ) that was the major bugbear of many of us.. he wasnt a lead up forward.. he was a halfway home one !!
  5. still...not too shabby for a kid !!! welcome to Melbourne mate !!
  6. First deal done Hawks land Gibson in trade week opener Gibson and North's fifth-round selection (No.69 overall) head to the Hawks. In return, the Roos gain Hawthorn's second and third were off and running now..:D
  7. Am as harsh a critic as anyone but have also been wonderfully entertained by the great "Robbo" . All in all it must be a hard realisation to look in the football mirror and see the reaper in your background. His time was up...the club knew it...he knew it...we knew it. Go walk in the sunshine and strum your guitar lad........ but just do it where we dont have to listen :D
  8. ..a required player ... bit like "he has our full support " ... the dreaded deathknell !! lol Its all words. Just keeps the suitors honest.
  9. working Buckley intoa adeal or trading separately is surely juggling come sematics ? Two teams...this for that..all the same in teh wash. Buckley will struggle to break into our new ( bar raised ) midfield.. he could be used off of half back but there too he is johnny come lately. Some aspects to like about him...not enough to miss him.. Trade him... do it !!
  10. but seriously...cream is still cream and it always rises ,,,e.g. Jurrah .. you just have to move the cream to somewhere safe for the time being
  11. nope <_< for starters...if I was that way inclined Id mask my IP.. also, simply not my style. no sorry...move along to some other
  12. does it really matter in the end.... thankyou works for me
  13. Nothing is finalised til it is. And it cant be til trade week formally opens tomorrow... then it will be. Should go ahead as advertised.
  14. To compare what Plough attempted/accomplished with his 5 year plan to whatis currently happening at Melbourne is superficial. At the end of this draft period the amount of change is hardly comparable. In 2 years we will have revitalised over 50% of the list...quite incredible. Effectively in the great scheme of things Melbourne realy only gets to go out and start winning properly and for the right reasons come season 2010. He's (Bailey ) only allowed one year to accomplish any real lift ??? This isnt TV where shows stay or fal on the back of topical popularity this is footbal where progres is measured in seasons. I can only presume that when Bailey sold the club on him as the choice of coach that he must have pointed out necessity to rebuild/restock first then work towards continued sustained successand that would take a period of time. We will have a veryr young team that needs games in their legs. The club musst thought 3 years initally was prudent in order to allow Bails to establish his bonefides without overcommitting and now that after 2 he has shown his ability to do the hard yards he ought to be allowed to build the team properly. If he was starting from scratch 2 years ago I would agree with waiting til seaons, but he effectively started from behind scratch.
  15. correct..Bruce currently 30..Green 28
  16. youre not alone folks has been an oasis amongst much turmoil and disappointment over the years Trade week will really find its niche this year.
  17. Onya Junior. I too lok forward to your leadership on ( and off ) the field. I think all would agree hes been a magnificent servant of the club and deserves a year as a swan song of sorts. Im sure you will convey much of what is right and expected of a player wearing the Red and Blue on to the younger brigade. enjoy '010.. Im sure you understand the reality of your position.
  18. Not bad for a first post I would concur with at least 1-4, with 5 haing many qualifiers to it. Certainly this wasnt a 5 min, 5 day or 5 week deliberation. I too harbour the notion that Brock had begun to get itchy fet the minute his role was dictated by the club ( read Bailey ).. I mean fancy that... a coach wanting to determine the style of play !! lol I feel there was much largese under Danners that simply isnt tolerated any more. This doesnt suit all players..S.I. L.
  19. Beamer's starting to get backinto the swing of things. He can still improve and I think he will ( given he gets a good and non interupted preseason ) ought to enjoy his new midfield company. Look forward to a blinder of an '010 from him
  20. Well.. hes probablya bit stiff to miss out as theres a handful in there who might well have not had as good a year as we believe Flash did but then that might speak to our point of view and no an overview. Ol' Aaron better get his skates on and put in a few blinders and show them their errors , as well as earning his new big paycheck
  21. I think Casey Scorp is on teh money... in essence it was Casey's call..and responsibility. We need to be mindful they are they and not strictly us !! Am sure now much of the dust has settled on our partnership framework that the MFC will look to be more 'mentoring' in helping Scorps with staffing Geez ..German is really just one cog in a much bigger machine..there are other cogs...quite probably better ones. One that might have more inclination to want to stick around
  22. I expect that by about noon on monday the deal as originally broken will be rattified (or is that Rattenfied)
  23. yep..simple... that or 34 and 50 for their 27 well... you can try !!!
  24. If we get flogged and get another spoon we might as well all give it away and take up darts Thats not going to happen. My view is he has two years to create what we have now, he ought to be given the same two years to do something with it. fair's fair !! We've accomplished an incredible amoutn in a short while really in overhauling this team It needs at least a year to gel and another to ride that success with honing and improvement. To expect anyone to all but bang on the 8 in a year is I think just unrealistic. I would think you would be better placed ( indeed better PACED) to be able to work you wonders over two seasons without thinking you need to fabricate a short term look of success in stead of a real one, one that yakes a littel longer but sticks around.
  25. I cant see how.. you would wait in pr3eference to the en of next year..i would give another year now.. where are we in accord ? Just asking
