Bail and Maric are quite different role-players. To say Maric was ahead because he was an emergency only goes to the notion of who might not have played for him to come in. we might never know any underlying injuires or illnesses etc. Maric , though being educated around the ground is essentialy a small forward oportunistic crumber etc. Bail is a flanker come wingman who can get the ball. He would fill any hole by Cheney's dropping quite ably if not actually adding a bit more to offer. Cheney is obstensibly crafting a defensive role with barely a pass mark to date. stil , time does avail improvements and this is what Bailey is about. Bailey may opt to not actually win the ruck at al contest..just win the ball..often two different things that go un appreciated by many. PJ may be droped to bring in a bigger-engined medium style player. It will be very much last man standing agaisnt Freo at Subi

Well obviously the forward line is still a beast in the making. Other than suggesting Watts and Jurrah WILL be there a lot of other bits and pieces are far from obvious or settled. Somewhere ( and for the life of me cant find it ) was a suggestion that BP was still looking at another tall large forward. We probably have enough medium height guys to fill in the gaps around them. Green whilst a good goal scorer isnt ( for mine ) a forward. Imnot convinced about Bate yet either. Davey is wasted in a pocket. Guys like Petterd and Sylvia are natural flankers. Still much work on format down there if not personnel. The midfileld needs refinement more than construction and possibly say the introduction of Viney down the track as well as the maturing of Gysberts and possibly others playing a semi midfiled role whilst not actually part of it might see it all come together. Rucking is a worry in terms of relief for Russian and insurance. Gawn might be the idea..but thats a long way off. Do we dangle picks at a table in order to secure someone ?? Backline coming along quite ok ..needs further maturing and nous..otherwise OK

We paid out Carroll for obvious reasons, those requirements arent apparent I would have thought for any current player at Melbourne. We will let some go and delist otherws. No mad panic to cull any more...we need to do it with a view to potential injuries and a 'just in case' scenario. many of those that some willwant gone at end 0f 2010 will go at end of 2011 should they not have stepped up. In considering the cupboard cleaning we might want to consider where and how many players of any calibre we could hope to pick up over the next couple of years given the compromised drafts. Some early glances and reports suggest a little bit of depth in this years too early for next though we would expet to get Viney via f/s Theres a suggestion there may be a reintroduction of the mid year drat in 2011 so a spot on rookie list may be reserved for that. Last year saw a biggish clear out . This year will I think just be one of convenience with some players getting another year possibly by default. Wholesale clearing has finished for a while. Likely sayonaras.. Bell, PJ, Miller..and Rookies, Meesen , Newton, Hughes Healy. Thats 7 ..would be about it for this year...now...next year will see a handful who escaped the axe this year get marching orders unless rapid improvement is made.

PJ just simply hasnt come on the way we all thought and some early glimpses suggested. Just never improved. Stop gap of sorts til seasons end then there will ba a parting of the ways. Thats about it.
