  1. Hes had a bit of an interupted time at Melbourne whilst all the while showing more than a bit. Timing could be perfect to come in and get a few games in as the season winds up. I like his style , poise and calm. Good decision making, a good deliverer of the ball. would seem a monty to come in this this and good on him. Hes a bit deceptive...quite solid while not looking like hulk. Keeps his footing and knows where the goals are when in the vicinity. A good offensive defender as well as a defending forward. Id really like to see him finish out this year in red and blue.
  2. put 15 kg on him over a couple of years ...and presto !! Might put pressure on Spence and others . Once he's found some legs Id like to see him play a couple of NAB ( pre season ) if only for limited spells to see where he's at, give him a feel for the firsts etc.
  3. Gotch's review Jack Fitzpatrick: Jack played in the ruck, and as a key forward. He had 16 touches, so he had a good impact on the game. Unfortunately, he kicked two behinds. I reckon that if he’d kicked those two goals, it would have been really nice, and cleaned up his game. He took ten marks out of those 16 possessions, so that’s a good sign. And he was important in the last ten or fifteen minutes, when he went in the ruck. He took a couple of really good marks behind the ball, which was really important. He showed enough to be quite exciting, to have that sort of impact on the game. As second ruck, and forward, he had a couple of opportunities, and did all the sorts of things we’d hope for him to do. He’s just got to polish it up a little bit more, but he’s heading in a really good direction. seems to be coming along well. Too early to get terribly excited... but maybe just a little !!
  4. Gotch's review ""Luke Tapscott: We brought Luke in for his first game, and he’s going to be a good player. He showed enough in his first game, which was really pleasing. He was able to impact the game as a half-forward or midfielder, and he would have had 18 to 20 possessions, even though he wouldn’t have played more than 65 to 70 per cent of the game. He’ll only get better. There were just a couple of skill things, the under pressure sort of things that he’ll get better at. He’ll hit those targets by hand and foot. There were just a couple of little things in the game, when he might have got a little bit tired or fatigued because of the pressure. He has a lot of pressure skills, too - he likes to tackle, and likes to be hard, which is good. So, he was really impressive first up - he got through, and he’ll build on that."" another likely lad
  5. very much so...but more so for other clubs who havent had thechance to stock up... Weve times it beautifully ( hopefully...lol )
  6. quite probably ..cheers
  7. The thing is... they still need a balanced group as mauch as any team. They cant have all forwards or mids etc. They also need some eperienced leadership and so they cant have all kids in diapers. I would be very surprised if GC go to the draft with the picks they have presently in tact. There will be some trade. There will also be some talent at each of our picks. Keep in mind some of the best players came at picks you thoughth were throw aways and some early ones just dont develop. I do agree it will depend quite a bit on the strategy shown by GC but there are hundreds of talented players out there. who knows there might be a few more like Bail/Pons etc just waiting for a chance and theyd be much more ready to go. I think this and next years drafts will be quite unlike many suppose
  8. dont tease !!!
  9. GC draft rules AFL "6. 2010 Post-season, AFL listed player access Gold Coast to have capacity to pre-list 10 players who had previously nominated for the AFL Draft, or were previously listed with an AFL club. Gold Coast to have capacity to sign up to 16 uncontracted players" and somewhere there is mention they can take two years to do it.
  10. Conversely do you hang on to medicrity for fear of change ? The draft this year is according to BP and co deeper than last. Sometimes you do need to mix it up .... Or stagnate
  11. Watts Jurrah Bate Sylvia Jetta Bennel Petterd Maric Bail Wonna Green Davey Morton etc yep aware we need more than 6 .. There's a few
  12. That forwarc arc is starting to get rather popular. They can't all play survival of the FITTEST me thinks. Good luck to Wonna though. Adds a bit of dash and pomp
  13. Why ? GCcan take up to 16 over 2 years. Doesn't mean for certain that will be uniform acroos all and every club. Gysberts is still contracted by my understanding. Hawk player ? Bit of muck raking I think

    Rivers

No one is essentially disputing that JR is having his best season for many .. But given his past seasons have been nothing of note that as a comparison or grading means nothing . The only thing that has relevance is that we need to field our best team and does this include Rivers. Also where to from now. Can he improve beyond that which another will given the same gametime ? Many still avoid that he's not got the form of his nab rs year !! But that's ok because he's a supporters fav. I recall years back an article about the Dees new twin stellar stars in the making , Miller and Rivers ... All greatness awaited them. They both have been good without brilliance , both have limitations and neither have what they once had . That's a shame. Times change and the game has ( and will ) and what was once a square peg for a square hole becomes less useful when that hole changes. For Rivers to be contributor he ought to be he needs to improve his offensive link ups he needs to make better decisions with the ball and have more positives in his quiver than just a spoil. I await
  15. Bruce will play out with the Dees.. A no brainer surely. Whether that's one or two more has yet to be seen. Honestly who else would suffer his skilful disposals but seriously he IS Melbourne. There will be a shuffle in amongst the rookies / seniors with one up one down likely and rest of rookies to clear for newbies. Bell will go, Tmac must be iffy, newt is history as is meesen. Healy &hughes must be reaching expiry. A question must be on table about Stef ? With some you have to ask how long some fringe players get to show their wares ?
  16. On that very note how dif it might have been had we played Ess at that 'other' place ? So much better in so many ways at the G
  17. I must fess a Sat arvo is my pref. Given a noted push away from these sat games .. Well seems like some sort of agenda in practice should we make even more of a push to be that team in Melbourne that takes the sat arvo game at the G ? If we are more and more about embellishing our heritage and relevance to this city would this not help cement it ? Melbourne , sat arvo at the G watching Melbourne because that IS Melbourne !!!

There seems to be many who in their arguments supporting Riv seemvery quick tooverlook his lack of leg speed. Unless youre trying to wrestle a stationary opponent or float across a casual offence you're going toget mercilessly exposed in today's faster game. These days it's all about mobility, pace at the contest !! Who else is noticing Jareds not so efective at the spoils against quality forwards ? Some seem to think there's enjoyment in these observations, not the case at all. If he can pull through another pre-s fully fit and another yard of pace then fantastic but why the head in the sand stance should that not be the case ? It's about a team surely. Get the best on the field not simply the favoutites
  19. yep..in a Nutshell.. Aussie must be fit.. If he cant maintain a high level of fitness then 2011 will be his last ( I think hes contracted through next year ?? ) In a marvllous world we'd have 10 on bench and play everyone...but the reality is theres only so many places and you need to earn themand keep them...othes are coming, somple as that. Its not a charity or a suburban club where ya fav's are carried. Do , or dont do...and if you dont..well we all know how that ends. On song he lights up that forward line and would be marvellous to see him get a couple of late games this year and carry that form through to 2011. whats it to be ?? I certainly dont know
  20. ya sod !! lol took the plum one huh !! I think the clue is DB wants run..and lots...all day. Bail fits that..and is a reward for greatwork in the magoos. am going a little left field.. Dees to draw......again !!
  21. not impossible....not probable either...still...It's footy !!! They wont want a repeat of this week will they !!
  22. ahhh !! yes.. quite so. Another aspect is even the best teams dont rest on laurels, they keep the list fluid. We may have a ouple of kids who were adjudged say 8/10 talent.. 8/10 potential and were 6/10 along the road. One they are further along they may be rejudged lower.. and it might warrant an earlier call than with some otherplayers who ARE making progress. i.e get some value or cut losses when able, and then get newer blood in and on it goes, constantly improving the bloodlines as it were.

theres no indication Bruce and Junior wont be there next year and if so definitely wont be ( I couldnt imagine ) play the midfield as such...so back half it is. Your introdution of Strauss is valid. with the forward line filling up even Bail could push for inclusion on a back flank and HAS the speed Jared lacks. The point Im making is that in my view ( and others ) Jared is NOT a walk up start each week. yes RR singing it will be !!
  24. im not bad at cryptic....but that one eludes me !! 18?
