just curious... Chips is listed at 91 kg on the MFC site.. that right ? Seems a bit beefier than that now...certainly got the guns expect him to blanket Neagle this week

We dont need Jurrah on the paddock all day.. just 60 mins will inflict enough damage and fear into the oppo's coaching box. Footy is as much a mind game as physical, some might say more. Liam hasnt been unablel to run out his games in the Maggoos. Roll the dice I say Both Jurrah and Watts are quite capable playing up the ground and they can just as easily take turns dragging theire respective defenders with them opening up our forward line.

Whilst I tend to agree that its beneficial ( long term ) to allow the kids to string together games theres also the overiding constraint of need v want. We need to replace teh run and poise of Grimes. The best fit currently is I think Bail. he's worked dillgently and patiently in the Magoos. I think hes earnt his opportunity to return to senior ranks. We dont categorically need a second ruck of Spencers ilk atm. yes we need, ftm , to persist with him but not at all costs. The Bombers wont be fielding an exceptionally tall team I think this week. Jamar ought and should prevail.

theres a growing consensus here it seems for Sylvia, Jurrah and Bail. Lets see how close we are ??

Have been giving this game some thought. The OP does spell it out quite rightly. We are a conundrum at good old MFC. Much talent, much ability, much potential and lot of inconsistency from players who ought to be a lot more stable in efforts than they are delivering. We got ravage by a Crows outfit that decided to draw a line on their own beach and say enoughs enough from thi smoment on we will play to our potential , we will compete we will fight. What a diference thats made. First us and then the hapless Bombers. Prior to this season many pundits would have placed Essendon far far above the lowly reforming Demons, though stangely ex Bomber Stategist in Chief Sheedy might not have been so keen to do that. All in all we werent meant to get to ofar off the bootom this year with even our own Coach sugesting almost as much. 6 wins doesnt get you too far up and we're only 1 and a half away from that 'achievement' already. We are though capable of much more as on any given day when playing well we can and do take it up to the better sides. We must now draw our line in the sand. we must not retreat from our destiny. We can not only win this Saturday , we must and we must do it decisively. Elements to that cause: For too many weeks too many of our better players have lowered their guard somewhat. The need to get their backs up and not shirk the responsibilites they have taken on. Davey needs to turn it up. A servicable game simply isnt enough from this elite player. Aaron, you made the deal , youre taking the money...deliver son. Stop letting the niggling of others constrain your game, beat them and you can do it. Let a little brotherly rivalry prod you into competition. I dont mean to pick on himper se but his is a prodigious talent and all to often we see the economy version. If we are to be a power once more we need to abandon the good enough is good enough attitude and strive to beter each week. Striving and achieving are indeed two different things but if you dont set the bar higher you will go backwards and thats exactly what it appears to this observer. Confidence is the difference often between desire and delivering. Young Watts I think is turning that corner. Last week was a bit of a break out game for him and this week on home soil with some decent help I think he might just "arrive". IDoes history repeat ? Often strangely enough. Last year with great fanfare ,what can only be described as wonder in football terms, saw the much antcipated debut of the Warlpiri Warrior. It was against Essendon and so I feel this ought to provide an omen portending to our futurea and re-happen. Bring in the Jurrah !!! Dilute the opposition, divide and concur. Liam has that happy knack of lifting and encouraging those team mates around him. Is it a little bit of red dirt magic ? who knows, who cares...it just seems to manifest. Sylvia must be champing at the bit to stamp himself again on a game. He ought to have regained confidence in his toe from last week and be salivating at the prospect of returning to the G. He does play better there. Early in the year Bail showed a bit of dash and class and with Grimes out I think his efforts ought to be rewarded. Whilst we prefer the corridor Rohan can use the wings well and this option ought to be employed when were getting bogged down or stymied through the middle. its a swing/pivotal approach. When youre getting doen inthe guts move it around the flanks and damage teh scoreboard that way, this will re open the corridor and so you can choose your route according to opportunity not simple blind instruction. The Bombers will desperately try to restart their season against us. We cant allow that to happen. We must use their 'doubt' to our advantage. We know we can start in a decent fashion when we put our minds and bodies to that task. we need to play for four quarters though, something weve failed for most of this year to accomplish. We have equitted ourselves rather well in the champioship quarters but not had the legs to run to the finish. Calling Scully and Trengove. Its almost unfair to sadlle these with the task of the final baton change but they are our hope here. We simply need to run Essendon ragged, they will falter. Our defence is quite steady an we ought to be able to keep their score. They are struggling , indeed like us ,to maintain scoreboard pressure and they struggle even more to contain it. We need to have our kicking boots on this week, but I think that maybe a goal haul between Col and Liam on top of previous weeks efforts ought to give us the points. Go Dees, knock those planes out of the sky

In a nutshel... providing he actually wants to come to us then yes..he's ours.. the fineprint is we have to match ( relatively ) any one else bid. But we get to trump essentially. Not quite lock it in Eddie..but almost
-
This the crux of it.. 1) Bails unlikely to make more than 3 changes as he wants steadiness and consistency and you get that by playing much of the same groupings. 2) the Only def in is actually Sylvia. The others are our sumisings. Jurrah may not get a gig though I think it might just be the right time after all adding spark and mission to the foaward line and giving Knight s the king of al headaches. Thatwill make it hard to match up th ebacks and might give Jack ( W) the day out hes been needing. 3) many players would be bloody stiff to lose a start but there is the question of needing two rucks for the Essendon game...if only one Spence is out maybe allowing a Bail in.. But would we be better off with Warnock to sure up the backline. Having said that Bail could give us a bit of run off the half back in lieu of grimes who'd be a selector huh !!!!! lol

It'll al come down to team balance and the one required for the Bummers.. Some players may be shuffled purely on that requirement and not just form.

Im happy enough to wait til unveiled but I dont see how that woiuld stop anyone already knowledgable from ascertaining its suitability to being on a jumper..say ala Carlton style but in the fashion of our emblem on white . Im assuming it would lend itself to white ??
-
To those who know whatteh new Emblem looks like; does it lend itself well to say becoming our away clash jumper. i.e on a white background ? If so maybe we can settle on that just wondering
-
id suggest locking it til a statement (fact ) is made

I seem to remember Cuddles saying at some point that the club is well aware of young Jack, his ability and his progress and that they ( the club ) would be keeping a close eye on him especially given our father/son trump card. But there was nothing more concrete that a noted interest in an exciting prospect. I would expect when a more appropriate juncture is reached that suitable lobbying and efforts wil be had to secure his services. edit my bad..was Predergast...but sure Cuddles said similar ..lol those predisposed.. drool !! source: Viney cathes Demons eye

I had originaly thought to wait to bring Jurrah back,, to make sure hes primed and fit but by all accounts he's moving well and the engine is building.I think we NEED to roll the dice this week in order to stop the haemoraging. Watts is starting now to play ( not attend ) and more the better for his efforts. But He needs help up hte front and I do recall his games with Jurrah went well as they seem to not crowd each other. Both can play well up field and draw defenders away. This will cause a major headache for Knights I sense. Bate I trust will return to form and form the third leg of that attacking forward set up. ALl will benefit from a fit Sylvia returning with him hopefully stamping a little more asurity and composure going forward off of a half back rebound. Who for Grimes? I cant see Bailey making five changes. I tend to think we'll see Bail Morton and Warnock named on the extended bench with a decision as to which of the three left til last to add impetus to their training and endevour. I tend to think possibly Warnock, but depending on match ups possibly Morton if on song. I tend to think Bail might only get a run if a front 6 opening appears. He can fron front and back though. Cant see Jones being dropped for whilst hes not producing quite the same nor is he playig teh same role as old. He seems the new designated tagger apprentice. The staf are bound to perervere with him whilst he shows gradual improvement ( and he is ) The more positive midfiled roles are covered by others now. A couple of guys might be a bit stiff getting dropped to allow the Cream back in. Possibly Jetta and Cheney

Another positive was we werent reduced to playing catch up footy. A much better effort in that regard. Still far far far too many fumbles etc but thats often the way when youre nearly getting there and the plays are there in mind just not executed pefrectly by the body. We still havent enough of the right folk on the paddock just yet, but there's glimpses. Somewhat ironic as yesterdays game was an iprovement of sorts whilst still cascading us towards more silverware of the wrong kind.

Its at Etihad , late arvo on a Sunday.. No chance in hell. Strangely..we dont do too bad against the Sainters, but I feel this might be all over in 15 mins....sigh...yet again !!

Bailey - is this part of the master plan?
beelzebub replied to The Chazz's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think you will get many who quite legitimately will argue we (mfc) can't order games to suit. In the spirit of the OP though I think there is something to the notion that Bails will try to work it to best outcome which may not be win stall cost at presentas there is no point or need .This isn't the tanking of the last 2 years but constructive positioning. Kids need games in legs ( and together ) Some perserverance at the scoreboards expence will be experienced. We aren't making a tilt yet were still building and moulding a team. In short I very much expect a further changing of the guard as season rolls to it's finish together with some swansong selections. Agree 2011 and on is a different matter. -
So does this not go to an argument that its not wholly teh nature or character of the young impressionable player but as much the natureand quality of the clubs attention to mentoring and personal development ? i.e you might be able to take a semi roughie and polish him ?
-
Its a vexed question. Character, past, present and future. Not everything is set in stone. As many suggest its simply due diligence to assess where a player's head is at and suitability to the sport at that level. With the way AFL clubs approach the well being and nurturing of its young charges there is some scope for taking aboard a less than perfect soul with the view that they had the potential to sort t themsleves out. Do we seriously dismiss the potential of a kid on the basis of what might have happened, that is without balance and thought to what he might become ? Many of us have possibly done some silly and stupid things in our youth but still managed to work our way to maturity without subsequent incident. I think you really have to approach the assesment on a player by player basis, there's really no one size fits all answer to the suitability of a player.

Cheney named on the field not the bench so he's a starter.

the fightback against the AFL's raid on the NRL has started
beelzebub replied to half back's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think this goes to the fear of those great unwashed of NRL lands...CHOICE !! Once there was a time there that you had a choice or Rugby..Rugby..or ...Rugby...only the 'wogs' played soccer. Only the Toffs played 'Rugger' and you had to be a Poofter to play AFL. Blue Collar folk of NSW and much of QLd played the real (?) game. I concede it was Soccer that inflicted more of the early blows to League able to utilise the same fields the New Australians coninued their sporting culture and played the 'world game'. The Odd oval with sticks appeared here and there..but very sparse. Rugby was still safe. More and more Kiwis and Islanders settle into Sydney and they of course are Leaguers. Their game still seems safe-ish. What happens within borders stays the same. Or so it seemed. But this land was changing....morphing. People move around far more often. And that nasty mob have infiltrated with some clowns heralded by Helicopters, boofy hair and high leaping , tight short wearing , self promoting mulleted blondes. Even Sin City couldnt ignore this...and so a seed was sewn. But it seemed like naught but a blot on the landscape. To the North, further un-Bearable events transpire and now we have a Trojan horse (s) within the fortress. And it all goes south after that for League. Suddenly it seems quite normal for folk to watch a variety of games. The rot has set in . League has misjudged the interest and intrigue of the populace. It arrogantly supposed what was always would always be. Despite Ch 9 refusing to concede ground in its NSW realm all else of the country turns and tunes to AFL . The more this happens over time the more natural it becomes for up and coming sporty types to consider playing that ping pong in lieu of that 6 tackle game. The AFL continues to invest and the NRL continues its self deceit. NRL is still tripping over its allowance of that 'southern town ' to participate thinking this might crack the ferocity of Aussie Rules. It of course judged wrong. We have ample room for the following of many a sport down here but there is nary a guarantee up north that this would be replicated. As more enjoy the spectating and /or playing of the 'Australian' game the more attractive it becomes for some to consider and inded commit heretic acts of cross coding or indeed choosing AFL from the beginning. In a nutshell ...CHOICE They havent really allowed the notion of choice up there, for even the ackowledgement of this choice is yet a further nail in the coffin carrying the miscontrued idea of monopoly and so they cant admit it. Players, indeed household names, heroes of their code; defecting !!! Actually choosing to play AFL and snubbing the 'status quo' ? Surely not !!! But its happened, and they just cant beleive it. Fait accompli -
the fightback against the AFL's raid on the NRL has started
beelzebub replied to half back's topic in Melbourne Demons
did you read the whole article ? he goes on about what Folau could do if remaining in rugby etc.. ""If Folau stayed in the NRL, he could go to rugby and play for the Wallabies or for clubs in Japan, France and the United Kingdom. Even if he stayed in league, Folau could superannuate his career in northern England.""" ( from the article ) It isnt a NRL v AFL article I agree...but you can sense the undertone. ....and dare I say it smell the fear..lol -
OR do we.... use our first pick at the trade table to try to secure the services of a disgruntled under 25 KPP ? Either a forward ..or a back releasing Garland forwad...just a thought.
