Not at all and thats a big assumption. Baileys goal for this year was to win at least half as many more games than last. it was to introduce the players that will make the great asulat It was to get these players to play together as many games as possible. To get games into legs and blood a few more. His goal this year was not to play finals bit evenhe acknowledges that if you finish 8th you will..as do I . But is that the goal ? No. So some would rather stack the team irregardless for the last so-many games in order to fall over the line ( stil highly unlikely btw ) inpreference to conditioning and preparing a wider selection of players...some of which WILL go on to play finals successfully. Some of you are just so starved of any success that you'll take any crumb that falls your way rather than the patience to take the cake. Forrest...trees etc

for as much as they are silly enough to part with. You know you dont always need to reply with cynicism . You can look outside the norm and understand that in special times strange things happen. Theres an old adag..you dont ask..you dont get. -

Is now a good time to float the Casey solution ?
beelzebub replied to beelzebub's topic in Melbourne Demons
Ahh...someone's thinking !! If we can build this as an assett and share in the windfalls it surely has some merit. As another mentions wed only be there a couple of games during th eseason proper when wed struggle to anyone else there but could reap serious dividends from gates and concessionaires etc.. Its not about relocating the club or abandoning the G or undoing all the good work etc..its a possibility to expand the brand. A thriving social venue in an up and coming area ( looking beyond the immediate ) has got to have more upside than the curretn Leighoak and Bentleigh venues...which meanwhat exactly to anyone ?? The club is obviously looking to invest somewhere...and the puprose of this thread was to note there is an elction and polies just love to throw away money...so why not be on the receiving end of some. The Bombers are in for 6 mill as of today.... North got some more the other day...its raining money... wheres our bucket ?? -

As such ... Definitely 16 . Am not suggesting abdication of the G at all . But with gc and gws plus cricket scheduling I see a window for any preseason games as well as possible lower gate games when (and if) the Afl fixture to our disadvantage or slot other games ahead of us at the G. It's just an idea more about taking advantage of political good will really -
We're back in the black . ... And hooray for that. Were a happening club.. Who'd da thought 3-4 years back !! Etihad is stuffed .. Or damn near to, Ballarat is to get some readies to upgrade and good luck to them . So is now a good time for the club to re-pitch the Casey Solution ? There's an election , Casey amongst fastest growing precincts with lots of families who in turn need I frastructure both day to day and sporting wise . Anupgraded Casey with say , for now , seating for 15000 and better facilities for the rest together with transport can solve a lot of problems for a lot of groups . Transfer some of those machine licences into a new social facity ( joint Scorps-Demons) and commit some of that revenue into community projects and it's nigh on win-win-win The AfL has another AFL standard venue to alleviate stretched city grounds . We can develop another home ground advantage that may even match the G for effect. Has got to help the bottom line just as Kardinia does.. Got to be a good moment i would have thought to do a little lobbying. We've done many hard yards , we've done the leagues beckoning , toed the line and got our act together whilst dteterminedly showing the corporates and populus that the Demon brand is alive and growing. To borrow a line ..... It's Time !!!!

He who laughs last !!!!!!!!! can hear the Irishman from here lol. Good thing. ...... Is a good thing he's not one of us !!! Hooray for Holly........Wooooooodd !!!!!!!!!

It certainly goes to show that far from apathetic Demon supporters at all levels have stood up. The club has a new lease on life so to speak, let's keep it going. The foundations are there, resources are to hand and the belief hasn't been this fervent for... Well a long LONG time !!! Go DEES !!!

An amazing effort by all concerned . Thanks Jim for your inspiration and selflessness. Cameron and Co you have theadmiration of all supporters . Good luck with the next phase. To anyone who ever opened their wallet .. Praise. Hopefully we will now deserve and command our due respect and in course better discourse in dealings with the AFL and other parties. To the fourth .. Take note we are just awakening the Demon, he hasn't begun to run amok yet !!! Who else gets that feeling ... It's finally happening. Thanks again to the supporters, volunteers, players and of course patrons and mentors of this fine club. And off we go:)

Be a very backward step for us to take either. Cox might top up a team Kerr over the hill . Move on nothing to see here
-
I for one would lime to see him get a game (Tap) but it's really more an indulgent curiosity than a necessity. Might be more likely if the maths doesn't provide for an8th finish

Im entitled to my view.. you all to yours.. If you train a race horse for a particular journey and resultant races you get it to peak at the proper time.. All other events need to be tempered with that in mind. Im sticking with my view... Strive for finals when your primed....and thats nextyear and beyond. Its all very rairy tale stuff to a lot of you..and thats exactly what it is..its not the reality. fire away

Having grown in or around Beauie in my teens + I was astounded and saddened to recently pass the old girl ( Beauie Pub) and see it dormant . The Pav group killed it off it seems . Once a vibrant venue ... Could be again

Do enlighten as to difference. I've outlined my view .. Explain yours

Thee are and there entitled to be more than one viewpoint to all this. Some take the finals at any reason or opportunity type stance and there is a certain romanticism about that...yeahhh!! finals..woohoo we made finals..we made it etc. or the any finals experience is a good one and so on and so on. There are some, myself included who take a more circumspect position and look to the best won batles of history and note very few were particulalrly opportunistic in the manner of just happening to be there. The most decisive campaigns we planned, to the nth degree, were resourced and time managed. So you have ad hoc, fall over the line versus properly thought out and positioned encounter. This year was never about finlas...hell it was ..lets see if we cancombine and grow as a team and learn to play footy together and if al goes well lets savour some wins. Use that as a foudation to rasie the bar the following year with more ( and better ) wins resulting in a mechanical approach to the notion of triumph rather than the surprise result. Were still in second gear...no matte how much you rev you wont get there with any great haste. All you'll do is burn up what you have and fry part of the team in the process. Its not ready yet. Again, finals are not the destination or prize...they are simply a pathway. I want to see Melbourne not only take out its next Premiership but to start a dynasty of success reminiscnt of the late fifties early sixties. No one hit wonders ( if that lucky ) ..rather a solid album of success. patience... and resolve are required. Tortoise..and Hare !!
-
hard to beleive you could be so naive as to consequences of a mistimed and conceived tilt .
-
Not scared of any reality about making the finals.. The reality is we are highly unlikely to unless all the planets line up again. Timing is often 'everything' ..and the timing is about being in the right place at the right time. Its simply my view that this isnt the time for us..not a time when we can do anything meaningful other than fall into them and then out. I dont see that as achieving anything. However playing to win is. Finals is a road...not a destination.
-
I say ...play to win...dont mention the F word. its very very unlikely.. Ive always maintained theres a time and place...and this years not ours as the prime raison. dont want to get there filling up numbers.. We cant get better than 8th in theory..and we all know what happens then. You need to temper enthusiasm with reality. Yes there will be those that call for finals at all costs, but we dont want to strive to making finals...we ought to strive to win premierships and you dont do that from 8th...far too much of a handicap. Then there are those that will say ..ah but the experience..playing in finals.. How does it help if your first is to lose? We can go far...and will.. but it will be in 2011 onwards. Best to perfect the play rather than fal lover the line. Its a short term price for a long term gain.

Brilliant piece... Not only have we become that "old fashioned club" but with the roots of football so entrenched in our club we really are THE football club. Martin can sense what's unfolding and is excited. Love that he left one game for ours :)

am surprised and yet Im know. Disappointed for Maric as he really didnt do much wrong but he'll get his chances again. Trengove as emergency suggests someone has to pass a last minute fitness test. Watts is a bit proppy by reports but be a shame for him not to play as he's really growing into his role.
