Best 22 for Round 1, 2017
whatwhat say what replied to spirit of norm smith's topic in Melbourne Demons
fwiw, we played 23 players to their 22 and we had 96 total interchanges to their 89. oliver - 73% time on ground @ 77.4% disposal efficiency lewis - 75% tog @ 79.3% de tyson - 67% tog @ 70.8% de jones - 80% tog @ 82.6% de melksham - 77% tog @ 81.8% de bugg - 73% tog @ 81.0% de salem - 81% tog @ 83.3% de viney - 71% tog @ 76.5% de vince - 86% tog @ 62.5% de stretch - 68% tog @ 73.3% de brayshaw - 72% tog @ 80.0% de (trengove - 0% tog @ 0% de) vs: mitchell - 86% tog @ 82.1% de gaff - 84% tog @ 97.1% de (!!) masten - 76% tog @ 85.7% de yeo - 92% tog @ 78.6% de wellingham - 82% tog @ 74.2% de hutchings - 80% tog @ 64.0% de priddis - 84% tog @ 70.4% de shuey - 76% tog @ 90.0% de (!) sheed - 68% tog @ 73.7% de nelson - 85% tog @ 88.9% de jetta - 79% tog @ 50.0% de looks to me like we definitely rotated more players through the midfield, but their prime movers - particularly gaff and shuey - don't waste it. -
hoping jetta plays as well. jetta, tyson, hibberd, kent, garlett and yes, ol' faithful whipping boy watts ALL need some football under their belts.
-
no, not a grade, but i think it runs deep, and most importantly runs quickly and all day, and delivers the ball well. their slingshot ability is also red-hot.
-
My biggest concern is turnovers and getting hit on the rebound. Saints' skill looks good and I rate their mids highly. We are a side who want to play contested football, and I worry about their speed of transition. It's a massive game for both sides to kickstart the season. Could be a genuine classic '8-pointer'.

What about: Jack, we know what you can do but the players you are competing with don't have the same level of game day experience as you and need run in their legs and to better understand game play and pattern, something which as a former leader we know you already have a strong understanding towards.

swans have taken the foot off the pedal big time? this is the big issue with the jlt; it's really 'just like training'. saints do run really hard.
-
zak jones is going to be their new tom mitchell too, clearly. classy little player with a killer side step.
-
they play the zone defence that we try to play superbly. their mids are also slaughtering the saints - steven, billings, and dunstan completely cut out of it. mccartin has been hit from pillar to post; he leads with his head every time.
-
doesn't he have a bung toe? ben kennedy is so classy at vfl level.
-
hawks loss to power was interesting - their key mob in mitchell, o'meara, smith roughead et al got enough of it, but port were cleaner with the ball and if vickery is their second key forward / ruck they'll soon discover how limited a footballer he is, like richmond before them. bombers look seriously quick with ball movement and foot speed.
-
the beauty is that if they start playing a harder tag on him. in theory it should free viney up in particular around the contest. oliver, viney and salem will be the #1 rotation of mids for us you'd think.
-
Did you watch him? He was shocking - today. Doesn't mean he's better / worse than T Mac but that he was really poor. Today. T Mac is not that far off where Rance is; both make mistakes. I think Rance is incredibly overrated. I'd probably rank him ahead of T Mac, but not by that much.

lampard and mithen are going to be stars for our side for years to come - 18 and 19 and electric through the midfield and daisy is a freak of a footballer. love paxman and newman's speed is so exciting -

also, has it been thought at all that we should just have a single board, not separated out into men's and women's teams? things like jumper sponsor, essendon, etc. get discussed on what is more or less the 'main board' - don't see why it's not just a 'main' board rather than having women separated out from the men's football discussion. -

i much prefer watching the aflw to the jlt. -
a fit beams, martin, zorko and rich will make the world of difference for the lions.
-
rance's decision making is arguably worse than t mac's, his disposal is just as middling, and his game awareness appears to be worse - he seems to lose it in the flight every time.
-
well based on watching pies-tigers, tom mcdonald is a better key defender than alex 'best in the business' rance.

Best 22 for Round 1, 2017
whatwhat say what replied to spirit of norm smith's topic in Melbourne Demons
i still think jetta is best 22, regardless of lack of preseason. i feel much more comfortable about our defence when he's back there. hoping that hibberd and garlett are fit for round 1, and ideally kent too. we have zero pace other than hunt, garlett and kent. B: Jetta - T McDonald - Hibberd HB: Hunt - O McDonald - Melksham C: Salem - Jones - Vince HF: Petracca - Hogan - Brayshaw F: Watts - Weideman - Garlett Foll: Gawn - Oliver - Viney I/C: Lewis - Tyson - Stretch - Spencer Emerg: ANB - Bugg - Harmes weideman plays for mine as he assists with our structure, spencer has to play because playing two rucks seems to actually be working this preseason and we might as well try something different against the saints with hickey being the dominant big man of late when we've played them at etihad, watts gets a game because vandenberg is injured (and if it was a choice, i'd take hogan / weed / spencil over watts being in the side, as his lack of competitiveness is an indictment against him as a player). we really need petracca, salem and brayshaw to develop, and develop quickly. probably add stretch to that clutch of players who are required to come on to replace the likes of vince, who has gone off the boil, as part of the midfield rotation. if brayshaw playing as a midfielder can't get it more than 10 times a game and turn it over 50% of the time, he's never going to make it. -
MATCH REPORT - TWO OUT OF THREE AIN'T?
whatwhat say what replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
like this: Best Melbourne Oliver Oliver and Oliver Hunt Lewis Bugg Salem but no way for mine salem was in the best. unsighted far too often. i'd give our preseason a 6/10 too. dogs didn't look bothered, blues look garbage, and meth coke are looking pretty good, particularly through the midfield, and chopped us to shreds as a result. we need our young mids like brayshaw and stretch to both get the ball more (10 possessions to brayshaw is a very poor return; although why he seemed to be stationed exclusively across half-forward i have no idea) and do more with it when they have it.
