  1. howe left two seasons ago, and wanted to play forward hibberd is a far superior player
  2. what i was told is that a significant party at adelaide has declared that it's a "done deal" in so much as he's picked the club he wants to play for and the salary he wants to receive - but like everything, i take it with a grain of salt
  3. All the talk at the moment is that it's btw Dees and Footscray; Crows would prefer he went to Pies cos they're prepared to give up pick 6, but Lever's preference is Melbourne The $$ have been pushed up by Footscray's offer, as to whether or not we are matching that valuation is another matter I was told yesterday it's a "done deal" but we shall see
  4. Worth it 21 year old key defenders who read the ball in flight and kick it well are a rare commodity
  5. $850k a year is the rumour...
  6. We are not good enough to get to 16 wins We are an average side still in development mode Since Roos we have gone 4, 7, 10 and then 12 wins under first year of Goodwin Continuing this trajectory is the desire, not the minimum KPI I would like to see us hit 14-16 wins but like everyone I have zero expectations that we can actually achieve this cos, well...MFCSS
  7. He is absolutely integral to our growth as a side
  8. Nice comparison, reads the ball as well in the air as Rough, that's for sure, if he has four premierships by the time he's 28 I'll be a super happy little Demon
  9. no, martin was always going pick 1 to gc17 we were choosing btw hogan and kelly
  10. don't forget, it was a toss-up at the time as to whether it was hogan or kelly we were taking in the mini-draft
  11. If you were to rank the KPPs in terms of sheer quality, would Frost even be in the top half dozen btw the two clubs? Talia, Lever, T Mac, O Mac, Kelly, Keath, Frost, Hartigan, Garland, Keilty, Dear... If Frost was the make weight to get the deal done, I'd take it in a heartbeat
  12. from a crows mate - apparently the wobbles have been told the same as dogs
  13. H is for Hansen...not Heritier... Sheahan was bang on the money about Lewis leaving the Hawks, and was pilloried before it came out as true Here's hoping he's on the money re Lever too
  14. saints will have to pay up big to keep him had his break out year in the 'right' season
  15. lewis is a ripper how anyone can i question is worth i cannot fathom
  16. apparently it was the 'rule of the week' - no straight arm fending off in the ruck contests apparently roughead got pinged for it a few times for footscray too
  17. i imagine our so-called 'war chest' will go towards ensuring the likes of gawn, hogan, hunt, t mac, petracca, oliver go nowhere
  18. It really doesn't ANB would have minimal value
  19. the stories about how stinger did that falling thru the glass door are legendary same with jako and how he did his back in
  20. What's the general consensus on the notion of Hogan of being used as an asset to get Lever? I don't like it, personally, when the option is there to trade something else - I do not want to lose Hogan
  21. I was thinking More in terms of isolation over that last thirty years, so Robbie in his final year, Wilson in his twilight etc McLean at his best - for about half a glorious season - was phenomenal
  22. well, it's 30 years since 87, i'd say since then our best mids have been, in order of what i think of as 'eras' of football before our current captain became our best mid: - robbie - brian wilson - todd viney - stephen stretch - sugar healy - glenn lovett - stephen tingay - andrew obst - kevin dyson - andrew leoncelli - shane woewodin - cam bruce - stephen powell - travis johnstone - james mcdonald - brent moloney - brock mclean i think that oliver can be significantly better than all of them
  23. We play a zone defence; we're not likely to recruit a gorilla tamer - I don't think it would suit the game plan as it stands If are are able to get Lever plus hold onto Frost and the Macs, our defence will be built around closing down space and interception I think if we are fortunate enough to get Lever we are ensuring that T Mac will play forward on a more permanent basis, but he can be thrown back if required So the backline will be formed out of three 'bigs' in Lever, Frost, and O Mac, then the interception and rebound of Jetta, Hibberd and Hunt (plus Lever who also adds excellent rebound kicking to his defensive responsibilities) plus the rotation of Vince, Lewis, Jones, ANB and I think probably Brayshaw and I am seriously excited about our defence It's more about what we have to give up from the midfield / forward structure that will see how our game plan is effected with the addition of Lever It's why I am totally unopposed to giving up 17 and 18 first round picks - ideally getting something 'back' from Adelaide (say, 2018 second round pick) I am REALLY excited about the idea of getting Lever, But not sure why this thread isn't just part of the general Lever discussion...
  24. genuine freak, will become one of the best midfielders melbourne has ever had
