2008 Redrafted
i wouldn't even have nic nat at 4 personally in fact, of the ten listed at the top of the thread, he'd probably be 10th for me of that lot

well if he survives til the end of his contract at the end of 2022 then he'll have been in charge 'officially' for six years, but running the show for seven? that's the magic number for coaches it would seem - i seem to recall a stat that few after they've been in charge for seven years, with dimma hardwick capturing his first in his seventh season in charge

Kick it Clarry
i would think diesel kicked it a lot more in the last few years of his career when he was a forward target as much as he was a midfielder if you compare their careers: as opposed to at the same age:

if we have the majority of those folks in the mids as opposed to viney, oliver, petracca, brayshaw, harmes, langdon, tomlinson, and even jones we are in big trouble adding langdon and tomlinson plus replacing jones with trac along with harmes going back means our mid make-up is quite different automatically

one of my big worries re harmes was seen in the marc mcgowan twitter vids - instead of minding his man (fritsch, who had isolated him as a full forward) he went to the contest, which resulted in fritsch getting an easy mark and goal i am a big fan of harmes running thru the midfield as a run-with mid who can attacks and hits the scoreboard i can understand why they want to try him down back...i'm just not personally a fan of it as an option (but it seems like it's happening)

CHANGES: Rd 02 vs Carlton
tom boyd shoulda won a norm playing back up ruck and tall target
-
CHANGES: Rd 02 vs Carlton
seems like lockhart and smith are part of the back 7 plans, along with harmes, who presumably 'floats back' after starting outside the back 6? gives the blues are 'going small' with only mckay and casboult likely forwards, plus pittonet being relieved by the latter in ruck, it would seem that o mac would be the unlucky tall out UNLESS lever is crocked again B: Jetta - May - Smith HB: Salem - Lever - Hibberd ? Langdon - Petracca - Harmes HF: Jones - T Mac - Melksham F: Weideman - Fritsch - Pickett Foll: Gawn - Oliver - Viney I/c: Brayshaw - Tomlinson - Bennell - Lockhart Emerg: Jackson - Bedford - ANB - O Mac

brayshaw signed a long-term deal year before last, trac signed up prior to this season, and viney is an rfa at the end of this season the issue with trading one of these three - and for me it'd be brayshaw every day of the week cos i just don't rate him - is what you'll get back peptides with dodoro in charge would offer a third round pick; we'd probably end up with parish or lesser equivalent is brayshaw better than parish? arguably...you certainly wouldn't be looking to go anywhere near one of langford or laverde who are other types that the peppies fanatics often tout as their 'trade bait'

Petracca Raring to Go
it's interesting you say this, as they're slightly different sort of players i feel yes, they can both rotate forward / mid, but i think de goey is a better mark of the ball and trac's ground level ability is better than the goog's de goey is listed as 188cm and trac at 186cm, but from my understanding that's de goey's measurements from when he was 17 and he's grown significantly since then both have the potential to be game-changers for their sides

Training Ground?
it's been discussed quite a bit @Diamond Jim - https://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/249729/casey-fields-set-for-redevelopment primarily intended for aflw, but obviously now a key consideration going forward for afl too

CHANGES: Rd 02 vs Carlton
wow that first tweet from mcgowan is atrocious ball use smith takes a nice mark from a forward 50 entry bomb, takes forever to decide what to do, kicks it straight to t mac, who bombs long to a pack, may hacks it out...straight to t mac, who get it to viney who bombs it indiscriminately, before a pack and nice handball from smith and then dunkley is the only player to hit a target coming out the other side of the backline what was that about learning our lessons re f50 entries?
-
1964 and all that ...
yes, very 'modern football'
-
Backline Selection Dilemmas
i would be very surprised to see jetta and hibberd both dropped
-
1964 and all that ...
what i'm finding interesting about this is that - unlike a lot of clubs who were successful from the 50s to the mid-00s - is that we really didn't seem to have a regular key forward target it would seem to me that we played more of a 'modern' style game of football where the goals were shared around and it was more about the overall contribution of the team as opposed to have a clear 'target' up forward?
