Behind the Draft 2020
sounds like we were pretty set on bowey and laurie, and the decision behind carroll or rosman was line ball

Best 22? / Next 22??
it's not a trick, @58er, it's an illusion; a trick is something whores do for money... they have both been on our list for three years and have obvious deficiencies that look likely to hold them back from being regular best 22 players they've clearly got heaps of talent - you have to in order to be on an afl list - but both have been in / out of the side on a regular basis due to the missing elements in their ability

the notion of spargo turning into our robbie gray type sounds very promising bit of a myth re distance of his kicking tho; i seem to remember he had no issues dobbing one from just inside the 50 arc in a final

Melbourne - premiership contenders?
listened to the footyology podcast this week; neither rohan connolly nor mark fine thought we were a chance of finals, let alone premiership contenders mark fine is a saints nuffy tho, and his views are almost universally terrible - but he's right that we've been consistency mediocre for a long time

i would have thought arthroscopy indicates they don't know what's wrong with his knee - explorative rather than determinative won't play til round 6 at the earliest i suspect

Review Finds Collingwood Guilty of Systemic Racism
exactly my point @Cards13 - i would suspect that eddie's surprise retirement tour announcement was done in the wake of requirements from sponsors in the wake of the initial findings in the report being circulated at a high level

TRAINING: Monday 1st February 2021
up until the last few years when it became clear what a weapon a 3 point shot was compared to a 2 there's a good ringer article here: https://www.theringer.com/nba/2019/2/27/18240583/3-point-boom-nba-daryl-morey i guess, ultimately, 3 points will always be worth more than 2, thus the risk-reward ratio is skewed 50% higher to the benefit of shooting a 3 than a mid-range 2 not to mention that - for the most part - the chance of an offensive rebound is far greater off the back of a missed 3 than a missed 2, due to the spread on the floor the other big change is that so many more players at that elite level are getting what's considered 'wide open' 3 point attempts; the % of players shooting higher % from outside the arc has increased exponentially over the years: from 22-24 foot (i.e. just beyond the arc) the likelihood of making a shot is insignificantly different from 4-21 feet to make it worthwhile to take the greater risk and earn 50% more points per shot made: people like the curry brothers, klay thompson, dame lillard etc are freaks when it comes to the long-range shot, but there's good reason as to why it has expanded as the go-to shot from back in the final years of jordan: but, back to our side, FOR GOD'S SAKE DON'T HANDBALL OVER YOUR HEAD!! taking a 3-point shot and handballing over your head are COMPLETELY UNRELATED as far as i am concerned, as the 3-point shot is a scoring attempt, whereas a handball over your head is effectively a no look pass to someone behind you which is just a ludicrous thing to do i hate seeing our players do it

Game plans, tactics and all that jazz
sort of second this gimme a close, exciting game over a one-sided high scoring drubfest any day of the week...unless it's the dees! then more of the latter in our favour please modern football's atrocious skills is more by dint of too many teams, too many poor players running around in the 90s there were 14 and then 16 teams with 20 taking the field every week; now there's 18 with 22 and the focus has shifted from ball skills to incredible athleticism
-
Game plans, tactics and all that jazz
the new standing the mark rule seems to be a direct reaction to the behaviours of hawks and the filth over the last decade who have become adept at using the mark as the first defensive mechanism to stop quick play waiting for the over-officiating to get the 'interpretation' of it wrong in round 1...
