  1. When The Age puts 'exclusive' at the beginning of their updates it is implying that some kind of investigative journalism is underway adding a touch of gravitas to their speculations.
  2. Watt rubbish. I am surprised the investigators haven't questioned Demetriou and Anderson's own dismissals of tanking in 2009. I mean, what have the AFL got to hide?
  3. It's an even handedness exercise by The Age.
  4. One minute the HS is suggesting that MFC tanking is an open and shut case, the next some audio tape "may unlock" whether this is so. With potentially mountains of out-takes to get through better get Phil Spector on the job.
  5. I'm currently sitting on my old vinyl, "Teaser and the Firecat", so I am perfectly qualified to say I am 'on the record' as saying that 'as I've stated on many occasions'... etc...Fair dinkum i am totally sick of this grandstanding. why not go on an afl website and spout your line there because it's not needed here. The club is totally stretched at present yet has to keep up an on-message message and so for holiday relief we get to read this back-stabbing, keeping it real nonsense.
  6. You may or may not have been around when South Melbourne and Fitzroy (what quaint names) were cut from the pack. My earlier comment was a nuanced comment and certainly not victim mentality. Your reference to 'group think' is just a throw-away line. I finished up suggesting that Melbourne, through the spirit and deeds of Jim Stynes (and others) would prevail against the dark forces. At the moment, the league still needs the passionate traditional supporter and can't totally go with its orange jumper mentality, but the trend is surely towards a premier league situation (with compliant minnow clubs) and anyone who doesn't recognise this reality is being naive.
  7. There is a ridiculing of MFC bordering on hatred in some media circles. We are seen by these critics, commentators, comedians - as the club to be cut from the pack in Victoria. The pretext of the 2009 tanking allegations gives administrators such as demetriou (melbourne has no purpose, remember?) an opportunity to further these objectives. sooner or later, renewing a coach, an administration, a 'club vision' - will no longer keep supporters behind a club, and massive debt and disintegration will take that club down the fitzroy path. choosing a melbourne instead of a carlton or a collingwood to enforce league rules fits this strategy perfectly. stynes' gift to us was to re-unite the club and, ironically, not accept defeat. it is this mindset of resistance which will ultimately silence the champions, healeys, bartletts, demetrious and wilsons of the footballing world.
  8. Three things I remember about Big Carl as-a-Demon: 1. His big hanky; 2. His funny kicking action, a kind of throw and back-spin release; 3. His 'run and carry' when we had to come out for a big third quarter.
  9. . Get back to the bush, Redleg. Lol
  10. I'm already in the bush, you nincompoop and I didn't realise it was your website.
  11. Hold up a democracy-in-Sri-Lanka sign in Bay 13 (along with a raised glass of lemonade) and watch security move in quicker than a border protection boat.
  12. This thread should be merged with the indulgent, post-grinding thread.
  13. The Age article, "Dees asked to explain antics" sets out a misleading impression that it is the league asking the club to explain the players' behaviour, then link this to their (ongoing) line about the dees dirty year. Should be asking The Age to explain their antics about our club. On the other hand, we may have been experimenting with positions to see if the boys can perform better on a different side of the fence.
  14. Spoken quickly, abbreviated from "Few premiershaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarps"....
  15. Thanks for that. Anyone with time on their hands may like to go through the list and categorise teams that use 'Grand Old Flag' as their team song.
  16. Update. This list illustrates that the demons brand is spread far and wide across australia, and is not parochialised and local to trendy parts of melbourne, as some commentators such as Greg Champion would have you believe. What about a demon jumper which includes a logo from each of the listed clubs: Armadale (Junior) Football Club W.A Bentleigh Demons Football Club Vic Berri (NSW) Demons Football Club NSW Boolarra Demons Football Club Vic Boston Demons USA Chelsea Heights Demons Vic Dandenong Demons Vic Diamond Creek Demons Vic Dubbo Demons NSW East Launceston Demons Tas Eastern Park Football Club S.A High Park Demons Ontario, Canada Hope Valley Demons South Australia Horsham Demons Football Club Victoria Koo Wee Rup Demons Victoria Laharum Heights Demons Victoria Lockley Demons South Australia Naracoorte Demons South Australia Ngallo Demons South Australia Nimbin Demons NSW North Hobart Demons Tas Norwood (Redlegs) South Australia Otway Demons Victoria Pennant Hills Demons Football Club NSW Perth Demons Football Club WA Port Macdonnell Demons South Australia Portarlington Demons Football Club Vic Shepparton United Demons Vic Surfers Paradise Demons Football Club Qld Swifts Creek Demons Vic Timboon Demons Victoria Tullamarine Demons Vic Wandsworth Demons United Kingdom Willunga Demons Football Club S.A
  17. This post was partly inspired by the "Melbourne reigns supreme post" by Whispering Jack. I have often wondered why more has not been made of the Australia-wide connections to our name and colours. Presumably this naming convention links back to the birth of our own 'demons' in the 1930's under Checker-Hughes. A quick internet search reveals the following football club as "Demons", many red n blue, and at least some using our club's logos or symbols: Pennant Hills Demons Football Club NSW Boolarra Demons Football Club Vic Perth Demons Football Club WA Bentleigh Demons Football Club Melbourne Metro Berri (NSW) Demons Football Club NSW Horsham Demons Football Club Western Victoria Surfers Paradise Demons Football Club Qld Eastern Park Football Club S.A Portarlington Demons Football Club Willunga Demons Football Club S.A Armadale (Junior) Football Club W.A Has the club ever researched all the Australian Demon Football clubs (not to mention the Boston Demons) with the view to creating some loose kind of association? Maybe our promotional material could be forwarded to these clubs, maybe a host of other connections could be made. Know any others?
  18. An authentic jumper is one which is not littered with corporate promotions, but one which the wearer pays a premium to the club to have the walking billboard features removed; something like the demonland website.
  19. I will always remember Tony Charlton for his memorable commentary in the 1964 Grand Final - with Crompton running triumphantly back to his position - that he would be 'the hero of all Melbourne tonight" if Melbourne win.
  20. I am impressed with the Demon greats forming guard-of-honour on the Demonland banner, but surely Checker -play like demons - Hughes should have got a guernsey as the man who originally revived our club in the 30's and who coached the club to the 39-41 triple premierships. He even filled in when Smith was briefly stood down in 1965. For that matter I would also chuck in I.W Smith. The width dimensions could be achieved by making gary a little less hairy and robbie a bit skinnier.
  21. That's because Robbie Flower was the ultimate 'team first' player. In our earlier glory years Ron Barassi only won two B&F's, one in his final year when he was a veteran. Melbourne had no big goal kickers during that period, also due to the team first culture.
  22. As the Wilson Cup approaches the finals it seems that rivals Carlton, Richmond and Collingwood have dropped off the radar of the AFL and its chief attack dog. For some balance: Dark artists drop the ball I can't believe this is happening; the AFL engages in massive social engineering to secure outcomes in premierships and finals appearances for its franchise clubs and then sets in place a process where cellar dwellers are lured into early draft picks to achieve the same end. They then virtually condone practices apparently followed by teams such as Carlton, Collingwood and Melbourne to rise up the list.
  23. How fitting that the AFL use as their proxy commentator a person whose writings have always avoided the contest, in its place self-promoting headlines about off-field intrigues. With blokes this is called small man syndrome. That's what poison-pen journalist William Hammersley did to Tom Wills throughout his career.
  24. Could she start going lightly one some of the other AFL club bottoming out co-conspirators as well, in the interests of balance.
