  1. Suggested Demonland activity: go to a thread where everyone is slagging off at each other and post a comment about the summer Ashes series and see if it gets deleted because its not about football.
  2. Don't forget George Lakes.
  3. You Only Live Twice.
  4. Presumably because this would lead to a devaluing also of our AAA credit rating. Punishment by international credit agencies for trying to manipulate the currency. This in turn would increase our cost of raising finance overseas to pay for our housing loans and bank cards.
  5. The Tory, Labor and truth-seeking media commentary on debt is a blinkered insult to people who slaving their guts out through their working lives. The public debt melodrama is but a small part of the big picture. What about the massive - and growing - PRIVATE FOREIGN DEBT. This issue truly crosses party lines. We as a nation live well beyond our means and it is not just government largesse via middle-class welfare of the Howard era, baby pay of the proposed Abbott gig, or the tendency to spend more on services of the centre-left parties. The libs bang on about government debt because they want to protect self-interest. you never hear them talking about the amount of money being borrowed off-shore to prop up the shop here in Australia. And to think Ron Barassi, Brian Dixon and Ray Groom were my footballing idols. The net total $$$ Australia owes to the rest of the world is fast approaching $800 billion, will this get in the news in the next few weeks? I doubt it. : http://www.australiandebtclock.com.au/
  6. LJ interested in reviving his career with us? Club has been in constant contact with him during his travailles. Jurrah back playing footy after release from Alice Springs jail
  7. Mitch Clark shouldn't play football in slippers.
  8. I have been a one-eyed JW supporter, but it's stuff like turning his back to the play (when we were in possession) and ball in vicinity at the 13m mark of first quarter that makes me feel the guy is not wholly committed. He doesn't 'gut-run' to offer himself to the ball-carrier, just little half-runs. That said, the overall team performance is so poor that it is hard to mark him fairly.

    GAME DAY

Dees owned the last ten minutes. If they can bring that effort to next half plus bring on Wonnaemirri, could be a lot closer than some think.

Comical free to Freo, great tackle. Howe gets mongrel bounce in square, bad luck.

JW doesn't work to create opportunities or help out unless the ball immediately in his domain. Very sorry to be saying this.

    GAME DAY

13 minute mark and JW ambles away from the action, back to the ball. We are in possession.
  18. Miss McLean, but your scenario is like saying Australia'sprivate foreign debt is over a trillion dollars, whereas our net foreign (private) debt is only about 800 billion dollars. So, taking into account Mitch Clark (Brisbane) for Moloney, (or Maloney as demonlanders prefer) and Hogan for Scully our position isn't nearly so dire.
  19. If I see James Hird run his hand through his hair one more time i think - in the words of Mr.Creosote- i will throw up.
  20. Had to laugh on the weekend when James Hird was quoted saying that the Bombers deserved to play in the finals because the players had gone out and risked their bodies playing this year. Hird's declarations reek of entitlement, it is good to see one of these so-called power clubs get what's coming to them.
  21. Barassi, in the words of Bobby Davis, "The last of the non-thinking coaches".
  22. It is much worse because expectations have been lowered to the level of non-existence by anyone connected with the club and anyone who commentates about the club. At the moment it's like we are not really in the competition; just an apparition which shows up for a ceremonial flogging. the melbourne brand has been effectively de-branded. i drive past the mcg and feel physically sick. this year is the first in very many that i have stayed away because of the emotional trashing which follows a day watching the boys go round. still, the afl needs us, if only because the smith/barassi legend is itself intrinsic to the competition's own self-image, or brand. that is our saving grace. PS a little edit to tidy up my message.
  23. Dodgy demon disposals of yore: Greg Parke, Peter Weekes, Earl of Spaulding, Warren Dean, Cameron Bruce, Tom Scully. In Tom's case, he was a good disposal.
  24. Once I got over my Brit car fascination i got an EJ station wagon with sludgy grey motor. Thought it was great until it started dropping out of third gear on the south eastern freeway. Another time all the electricals stated melting for no apparent reason.
  25. That was quite illuminating, WJ. Can you also shed some light on these guys from that season: Vearing, Catlin, Jungwirth, Dowsing. As a child, the first game i truly followed was round One Match of the day v StKilda and we were hammered.
