  1. If I see James Hird run his hand through his hair one more time i think - in the words of Mr.Creosote- i will throw up.
  2. Had to laugh on the weekend when James Hird was quoted saying that the Bombers deserved to play in the finals because the players had gone out and risked their bodies playing this year. Hird's declarations reek of entitlement, it is good to see one of these so-called power clubs get what's coming to them.
  3. Barassi, in the words of Bobby Davis, "The last of the non-thinking coaches".
  4. It is much worse because expectations have been lowered to the level of non-existence by anyone connected with the club and anyone who commentates about the club. At the moment it's like we are not really in the competition; just an apparition which shows up for a ceremonial flogging. the melbourne brand has been effectively de-branded. i drive past the mcg and feel physically sick. this year is the first in very many that i have stayed away because of the emotional trashing which follows a day watching the boys go round. still, the afl needs us, if only because the smith/barassi legend is itself intrinsic to the competition's own self-image, or brand. that is our saving grace. PS a little edit to tidy up my message.
  5. Dodgy demon disposals of yore: Greg Parke, Peter Weekes, Earl of Spaulding, Warren Dean, Cameron Bruce, Tom Scully. In Tom's case, he was a good disposal.
  6. Once I got over my Brit car fascination i got an EJ station wagon with sludgy grey motor. Thought it was great until it started dropping out of third gear on the south eastern freeway. Another time all the electricals stated melting for no apparent reason.
  7. That was quite illuminating, WJ. Can you also shed some light on these guys from that season: Vearing, Catlin, Jungwirth, Dowsing. As a child, the first game i truly followed was round One Match of the day v StKilda and we were hammered.
  8. Which 'record'? The back page of the Herald-Sun, Inside Football? The Insiders?
  9. With Hogan Dawes, Watts, Howe and Clark up forward next year they will just suck the ball into the forward line. Lesser mids will look better because less goals have to be invented.
  10. Who was pick two, out of interest?
  11. Clubs like Essendon are born of entitlement and a plethora of excuses are now being raised to mitigate their behaviour. Whatever it takes says all you need to know about Essendon. They now need to take the public's medicine, in public.
  12. Trade both Watts and Barassi for another fifty years of obscurity, but only on the condition that Norm Smith rises from his grave and says that both boys have given their club good service.
  13. Does anyone think that the current Pope looks like the late great Stan Laurel. If so, could be only miracle short of Sainthood. http://media.theage.com.au/news/world-news/pope-francis-lands-in-brazil-4592195.html
  14. What's scary: thinking we were on the rebound after defeating reigning premier, Essendon mid-1966.
  15. You can back-door this article still by pasting the URL address into google, that's what I did.
  16. I agree with the idea of spreading the gospel by it was a blunder to instal Sheedy as Chef de mission, he had/has too many axes to grind and never put in place a balanced playing list, relying totally on youth. The afl will be propping up the bottom quartile of the comp in perpetuity and they have effectively set up the GWS to fail, big time.
  17. They reckon the early settlers had some trouble settling in. It was Sydney, after all. Now that TV rights money is flaming the night skies east of the Blue Mountains, we can see what a debacle GWS is, and has become. Their only victory was in securing a dud number one draft pick, noone else wants to go there. Pretty soon this will be the AFL's Dunkirk: http://www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/opinion/brace-for-20-years-of-gws-misery/story-e6frg7uo-1226680393058
  18. Apparently now unbackable at one sports agency: channel 7
  19. If he had some legitimate go home (to Victoria) factor in play then we should consider him.
  20. Watching Agar's highlights reminds me very much of Clive Lloyd in full pomp. We, courtesy of Darren Lehmann have found a potential superstar.
  21. Hey, my recent thread announcing start of series got deleted after five minutes. It's just not cricket.
