Play a great brand of football and have stayed near the top despite the draft. They have kept the AFL product afloat in an era of fake franchises, thuggish head-hunting teams and rolling mauls. Was it Mitch Duncan they got at 29 (when we got Scully at 1?). A team to be admired. IMO, a far better team than the essendons, WCE's, Hawthorns, Carltons of the world.

The club song is already based on an American song - You're A Grand Old Flag' - so what would be the point of talking up a New York Yankees connection whilst talking down our Yankee theme song.

i don't know what all the angst about this is. surely 'the viney bump' has bumped us past the bruise-free tag we were previously clobbered with. most commentators have given viney plaudits for his style of football, as far as i can see. i also don't get the barrett-bashing, although i may be missing something as i only occasionally see him on the footy show.

Scully's career hasn't really been helped by his 'recruitment' anyway. The AFL are trying to head-off soccer, so they set up some stupid thing called GWS. For teams like GWS and gold coast to succeed then the bottom clubs in victoria have to drop off. fortunately, in our case the player we lost was not what he was being built up to be so we emerged out of it ok. in the long run, 18 teams is a crowd-killing concept, and when the Aus. economy takes its next dip and the tv rights drop off, that's when the proverbial will hit the fan.
