  1. Sorry, just realised there was an NAB thread... shows how much i have been paying attention.
  2. The AFL continues to morph into a premier league, with the top teams cherry picking who they need to keep themselves clear of the pack.
  3. Not sure if this article has been posted or linked to yet: http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/jesse-hogan-ready-and-here-to-stay-in-2015-20150303-13txrd.html
  4. I personally haven't got over the way Ron left the club. Best and Fairest, and Premiership captain one moment, we are the navy blues the next. Meanwhile I'm stuck at Richmond station for 50 years watching the 2pooz pass by.
  5. It was a big win for MFC, one of the few we have enjoyed in recent years. Good luck to the guy, he has set himself up for life. Just shows the national draft system is a dud.
  6. What annoyed me about this decision was my right or wrong perception that Neeld and co were deliberately being hip and 'counterintuitive' ie not picking Wines for the very fact that he was a demon supporter/friend of Viney - Need also coming from 'outside the system'. ... if any of this makes sense.
  7. Q: What do Ross Lyon and Colin Sylvia have in common? A: They were both looking for the 'sylvia' lining...
  8. This was the game where a plan was devised to stop Jack Dyer 'taking out' Norm Smith. Red Fox describes how one of the Melbourne players (a copper, i think) tailed Dyer and prevented him from having his normal impact, excusing the pun.
  9. On World of Sport, Tilbrook started out as "Diamond Jim". Then Lou started calling him "Topaz", finishing with "Tillendrium".
  10. What goes round, comes round. Norm Smith came to South in 1970 and got them into the finals for the first time in decades with exhilarating football. Six years later Bobby Skilton, from South, very nearly got us into the finals. In the 90's Ron Barassi went to the Swans and helped resurrect the club. A year ago Paul Roos comes to our club and a turnaround in our club now looks on the cards. I'm hoping for near wins to turn into wins this year and get us closer to the middle of the table, and out of the stinking rut we have lain in these last few years.
  11. It is just a business. And we won this time. To misquote Jack Ruby:"The world will never know how close Nathan came to not signing".
  12. The hero worshipping true believers on this site are living in fantasy land. These guys are career footballers, so it wouldn't worry Nathan Jones in the slightest which colours he pulls on after next year, be they Melbourne, Geelong or Hawthorn. It is no longer a supporter's competition, it is a return-to-investors=from-media-rights sting.. I just hope that soccer swamps good old aussie rules before the two-poos win their twentieth premiership.
  13. Alan Johnson, without a doubt. Brett Lovett, because he was an intelligent footballer.
  14. Looking forward to reading the article. What is coming across in the comments is a degree of envy and miserliness.
  15. Forgiveness is a powerful force, it re-unites. It is the kind of energy someone like Roos could put to good use for the club. I would love Brock to come back, if in fact the guy can still play football.
  16. I posted about Ray's illness last year, but can't find the post. Just wanted to mention the sad passing of my lifelong demon buddy, Ray this morning, in Frankston palliative care. Ray bravely fought a brain cancer for nearly two years when he was only given three months. We used to go to watch the Dees play when we were kids, ducking off from Springy Under 12's and catching the No. 4 to Richmond. For long time supporters, that was when Phil Rhoden used to drop kick 55 yards from full back in the reserves. I was honoured to attend Ray's wedding last year, shortly after he was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour. Ray's family and mine are all crazy demon supporters and we spent lots of sunny (and otherwise) afternoons at the MCG screaming for our team over the years. You don't need to suffer any more, Ray, and we will all miss you and your wonderful sense of humor. You were taken before your time. Condolences to your wife, kids and extended family. BD
  17. "I really rate x, y. z.........." .As if the football world really cares about what some anonymous football nut says.
  18. When a courageous man like Phil Hughes leaves us so young it feels like things will never be the same again. I hope there is a completely new look at helmets so that this kind of tragedy is never witnessed or experienced again. R.I.P.
  19. Offloading Chip and TS for Hoges and now Petracca not a bad second dip... http://m.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/afl-draft-2014-emma-quayles-firstround-predictions-20141126-11uey0.html
  20. Hopefully McCartin won't turn out to be a lemon.
  21. Sometimes it's better to go outside your club.
  22. Couldn't help but notice Barassi's trademark impact on the game in these last minutes. First, he almost spoils the Hawthorn kick and nearly injures himself when standing on the mark. Later he takes a courageous mark under pressure (which the commentator describes as an easy mark!), then astounds the commentator by... handballing. This was a good tactic because of the conditions as Melbourne were able to maintain possession and work the ball around the wing. A big loss, losing Barassi. Gonzo, do you have any more from this period?
  23. As the actress said to the bishop, where has that footage been hiding! Demons finishing all over Hawthorn, and Mann's goal as good as I ever imagined. More, please.
