He was a 'time and space' player even at the demons. A slow burn to failure when we lose absolute guns like these.

Carlton are now a well-entrenched second tier AFL team. Blame it on the boogie, blame it on Malthouse, but definitely blame it on the John Elliott culture. The relative demise of teams such as Richmond Carlton and Essendons of this world is our only hope of sneaking back into the upper echelons of this competition. Who would have thunk back in the days of the drop kick, that these teams would have won three premierships between them in their last (collective) 70 years (carlton 1995, richmond 81, essendon 2000.

Swans also missed some gimmes. Garlett conjured a beautiful goal at the Punt Rd end, the guy is a +++ for our team. Watts was quite lively when he came on, and set up a goal under high duress, also at the Punt Rd end. Do some of these commentators go to the games? It was the Swans' second and third efforts in the first and second quarters which flummoxed our team.

The bAll was nowhere near Hogan in the first half. He contested brilliantly and was the standout player with Salem.
-
The team was monstered in the first half but Watts was useful and did some good things when he came on, pointless to slag him for effect. Would have liked him to at least wrestle McVeigh who humiliated him. Noticed no Dees came into support.

Dawes played well, never gave up.

At least we showed some heart and some run in the last quarter. Jesse Hogan = elite.

Eddie threatens to quit over equalisation proposals
bush demon replied to mdemonski2's topic in Melbourne Demons
Melbourne participated in the greatest equalisation of all time by giving up their home ground in 1965 and subsequent years, allowing the hordes to invade us. -
The guy does the best he can. Supporter websites that vilify players don't inspire, either.

MFC legend.

Without doubt, Gerard Healy, we would have won the '87 flag with him. Bob Johnston starred in WA, and played in for many years, leaving the Dees, age 25.

Mitch Clark out with a foot injury ...
bush demon replied to jumbo returns's topic in Melbourne Demons
You might as well pillory Barassi for wanting a new environment to succeed in. Barassi got it right, Clark may have got it wrong, and this time MFC will be the winners. -
MATCH PREVIEW & TEAM SELECTION - Round 4
bush demon replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Richmond's defection from Punt Rd in 1965 coincided with our mostly defective performances from this year. -
Ha ha ha. Public hypocrisy concerning players' private lives is for the satisfaction of mr and mrs suburbia who tut tut at 'illicit drugs' whilst enjoying the endless humour around frothy jokes on the footy show. Then not to mention the Australian cricketers 'capping off' their national hero status by parading around smashed as a one day cricket ball.

Re-start of the large hadron collider next week may finally prove the existence of parallel universes and disprove the Big Bang theory. One way to test this controversial idea would be undertake a search for a football thread which has Ollie Wines playing at Melbourne, but putting off contract negotiations until the end of the year.

Looks like the AFL is going broke on the quiet. The figures quoted in this article mark the death knell of this code when the next economic bubble comes along. By the way, it's Australian Rules, not "AFL", that is an unfortunate and derogatory product name, (giving its lesser cousin NRL equal billing) In its haste to ward off the round ball code we got into 'start-ups' such as Brisbane, Gold Coast and Greater Western Sydney which are essentially parasites living off the host organism. The expansion clubs have given us ugly jumpers and taken away local players. Apart from the drop kick, the biggest thing our code had going for it was its local and parochial flavour. http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/afl-clubs-delusional-says-west-coast-chief-20150317-1m1f8t.html

Mitch Clark's 6 goals - how ... 'depressing'.
bush demon replied to bush demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
Just need to have a second team to follow. This can be done by going into any Target store and seeing what jumpers are on sale. -
Mitch Clark's 6 goals - how ... 'depressing'.
bush demon replied to bush demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
The media narrative will continue along the lines of Geelong, Hawthorn, South having 'great cultures' - that being the reason why they attract players. In reality these clubs are firewalled from failure they have guaranteed access to finals and premierships. -

Sorry, just realised there was an NAB thread... shows how much i have been paying attention. -
The AFL continues to morph into a premier league, with the top teams cherry picking who they need to keep themselves clear of the pack.

I personally haven't got over the way Ron left the club. Best and Fairest, and Premiership captain one moment, we are the navy blues the next. Meanwhile I'm stuck at Richmond station for 50 years watching the 2pooz pass by.

It was a big win for MFC, one of the few we have enjoyed in recent years. Good luck to the guy, he has set himself up for life. Just shows the national draft system is a dud.
-
What annoyed me about this decision was my right or wrong perception that Neeld and co were deliberately being hip and 'counterintuitive' ie not picking Wines for the very fact that he was a demon supporter/friend of Viney - Need also coming from 'outside the system'. ... if any of this makes sense.
