Why? What do we have to gain by doing this?
-
It is funny how media jump on social media and report trade rumors from there. It has been a slow week, the AFL needs to get this back to two weeks, most of the free agents were done before this week. We have two more weeks of this, I think the carrot of pick 2 has us all excited that we will land that gun midfielder, the problem is there aren't any gun midfielders available. One week down, we should find out tomorrow what band we get for Col Sylvia, considering the same panel that put the recommendation to the AFL for our priority pick will also assign the free agent compensation I wouldn't hold my breath. It should be Band 3 but expect it to be band 4.

I love trade time, all the build up and then the long 3 weeks. So today we are trading Blease, Tapscott and Jamar. In theory I have no issues with any of these three being traded as long as the trade works for the club. Kent went past Blease and Tapscott in his first year, you can't have small forwards that can't spend time in our midfield.
-
This may have been the conversation that never happened between Roos and Jamar: MJ" I hear you are speaking to Jolly" PR"Yep" MJ"Where do I fit in" PR"Second Ruckman behind Jolly" MJ"Thats Crap can you find me a trade" PR"If that is what you want we will try"

It is clear cut for this guy, spend next year at Peel Thunder and hope the Dockers have injury problems or move clubs and increase your chances of playing at AFL level. Then next call is what club does he want to play with, a club like Melbourne a poor team with no midfield were he could get 15-22 games next year or risk going to another club that has a decent midfield that he still might sit in the VFL.

Just for you we will go out and give our picks away for players that aren't worth it. It will make you happy because we have a trade. There is no point trading for the sake of trading, the club isn't going to trade if it can't get the right deals. We forget two years ago we got Clark, last year Dawes along with a deal that saw us get Hogan, Barry and Jack Viney for a second round pick. If we can't get the right players in a deal that works for all parties I'm happy to go to the draft with pick 2, 20, 21, 39 and so on. If we don't get a deal this year we work hard for next and hope that under Roos our current players stay fit and improve. We still have 16 days of the trade period to go, just calm down don't believe everything you hear or read, relax and assess our clubs trading performance in 16 days.

They might be prepared to wait for Dew which will be good for us. We sign Dew for 2015, then Roos coaches his third year in 2016 before the handover, we get 3 years out of Roos.

The same elite midfielders as Scully, Morton, Gysberts will be. We need players that can play their role, we are extremely bad at the moment, the club needs to improve next year and by introducing more 18yo kids this isn't going to happen. Jones gets smashed every week, then our next best midfielder is Jack Viney who also gets smashed each week, they need support now and picking up an Aish or Kelly won't give them that. This rumor could be a mile off but I would love to see 2 Sydney premiership players on our list next year, they might not be fancy players but they will perform and offer so much to our club.

It's about getting what we need at the club, pick 2 may be overs for Smith and Parker but these two fill our needs and we know what they will offer. They will walk into our starting 18 and have an impact on our playing group. Or we hang on to pick 2 get another untried kid, he may be great but we just need to add players that can impact straight away. We all know that get the footy inside our forward 50m arc we will have enough targets to kick a score, are tall backs are good our small backs don't defend well enough. We add Smith to our back 6 and that is then as solid as any back 6 in the comp. You add Parker to our midfield it helps, we keep our second round pick and Sylvia compo, add two young midfielders, get Cross and convince another midfielder to go into PSD. We can't get all the players we want in one draft or trading period, it is about bringing players in that will help improve us to be competitive, to give our young players every chance to be their best. Then next year we will most likely have another top 6 pick we can add more all of the sudden we have a team that is more than competitive it is challenging. I would take Smith and Parker for pick 2 any day add in Sydney's 2nd round pick as a sweatner.
-
Steve13 agree, all of the sudden we have a midfield that can compete, I would be happy to get Parker, Smith and Cross and keep our second round + compo + third round pick for the national draft and try to get Miles in the preseason draft.
-
I would take Parker and Smith for pick 2, but it will most likely be Smith and Bird which I would want Sydney's first round pick also thrown in for our third round pick.
-
They are pushing for it and trying to get this confirmed before this goes through.
-
Just on pick 3, ST Kilda are keen on the idea of letting Nicky Dal go as a free agent and are confident on getting a Band 1 selection for him given them pick 4, the reason they will do this is to trade pick 3 and 4 to GWS for Pick 1 and 10. This will hinge on the AFL confirming they will get Band 1 for Nicky Dal, if they get band 2 they will keep him.
-
Luke Parker and Nick Smith, that is something that would add to our list and I would be happy with giving up pick 2 for these two plus Sydney's second round pick. We don't have a strong defensive small defender adding Nick Smith to our backline would be a good thing
-
The AFL website says a package of two players for a pick in the top 5, have to say don't know much about Nick Smith to get that exited.
-
4th round pick or pick 2 in the PSD, get him to commit to us and we then have the upper hand.
-
I get a gut feel we are into a couple of contracted players, we have PSD pick 2 that is a very good tool to have when negotiating with uncontracted players.
-
Is Shiel the guy that has strong ties with us, I remember a while ago their were posts of I think his family being sponsors and supplying fruit to the club. Offer pick 2 for Sheil and Miles
-
Tell me who are their gun players, J cameron, is one and the others are potential that will be picked off as they develop
-
GWS is going to be the AFL's biggest basket case, players don't wont to go there and players want to leave. The Gold Coast at least can sell G Ablett aand the lifestyle.
-
No it won't, we can pick up Cross as a delisted free agent which means no compensation as his previous club has removed him ffrom their senior list.
-
Yes we made the right choices the only one that I thought we should have kept was Bennell, Bennell suffered the same fate as a number of our players they never let him settle into one role, his was a small forward then down back then forward again, he should have been our back pocket, same with Jetta he isn't and never will be a small forward but down back he looks good and through the middle he looks good except he blows up to quick. Adding Byrnes and Pederson lets see how that plays out next year, Rodan offered the club what they expected and Dawes was great when fit. I think we will get a better assessment of the 2012 draft and trade period in 2014 Toumpas we knew about his injuries and he was always about the future not 2013 Hogan he will have the same impact next year as Jack Darling did in his first year Viney Gun Barry Showed some good signs late in the year Dawes As stated when fit was good not only his performances but made blokes like Watts and Fitzpatrick stand taller Kent Supprise packet if he can build his tank he has all the tools to be a good AFL player Terlich/ M Jones/ Clisby all three showed lots at AFL level To me thats 9 players we added through the 2012 draft and trade periods that will make us a much better team. We had to clean out the players that had been around for a number of years that continued to under perform. Moloney and Rivers great club men but I still feel it was in the best interest for them and the club to move on. I was happy to see Rivers playing last Friday night, he deserves to go out on a high the mans body is giving away he only has a one to two years left great he can play finals footy. And don't forget Mitch Clark, if and a big if he stays fit he will be like a new recruit in 2014. Here we go again all about the hype and the ifs at some stage it has to turn

Watts has the class of Goodes, but doesn't have the desire to run and work hard, hopefully it clicks for him and he realises that he has the ability to be an elite AFL player and the work that is needed to become that player. No one can question this guys ability only his want to do the hard work.
-
I just hope he gets to play that high half forward pinch hitting in the midfield, the bloke played half the year up forward and kicked 22 goals, and of those games he played forward he half of them he would have spent a lot of time as our loose man in defense. He can be a 30-40 goal a year forward and if we have fit Clark, Dawes and Hogan up forward Watts will be a very hard match up. Happy he signed but like most he needs to show what he can do on a regular basis. No more half arsed efforts, he will know Roos won't let him get away with that.
