All players would have a Christmas program, for an athlete at elite level training is required you do it no matter what the day is. I'm sure is other MFC players had to do 100 x 100m sprints on the 25/12 they would have done this. Funny how training is back to this, when you think about today's game it is basically what it is, repeat high speed running over 100-150m

I agree, that whole wing forward pocket level two Olympic Stand is the best place to watch footy.

Go back to the hype around Col Sylvia when he was drafted, big strong forward midfielder, great hands, good kick, everything I've heard about this kid just reminds me of Col Sylvia, the only difference his body is sound.
-
I just hope he isn't our next Col Sylvia, for some reason everything about him reminds me of Col

Garbage, Blease was lazy plain and simple. I remember watching preseason our two young midfield stars Gysberts and Blease the last pair in the running and battling, you can go back through training reports would have been Gysberts 2nd or 3rd year and Bleases 3rd or 4th, a number of us expressed concern back then about these two, nothing to do with development it was them doing what they needed to do to get better, basic fitness. Bailey and co put up with is, Neeld didn't and Roos didn't, be interesting how Blease goes at another club, my money is like Gysberts he will be out of the AFL in a couple of years. Strauss and Tappy unfortunately just couldn't stay healthy. You need some luck with your body and these two got none. Strauss I still think could have been a decent AFL player, Tappy to me was extremely limited, couldn't run through the midfield to slow for that forward pocket role, to small for a hit up HFF, looked OK as a small defender but his pace would have been exposed so even if fit I don't know where he would fit.

Best 22 and the reserves 22 Jetta Frost Dunn Garland McDonald Grimes Harry O N Jones Vince Watts Dawes Howe Garlett Hogan Gawn Jamar Tyson Viney Cross Kent Toumpas Salem M Jones McDonald Harmes Terlich ******** Hunt Stretch Michie Riley Bail Pederson Petracca King Fitzpatrick JKH Spencer McKenzie Brayshaw Newman Trengove Neal Bullen Looking at these teams another tall defender would be good. Mids we know have a lot of players that can run through our midfield.

Toumpas has all the ability and tools to be a good AFL player, he just needs to get his head believing that. -
Interesting to see Watts spend a lot of time running, didn't do much ball work, just ran.

Looks like one Jack Viney.

Yep, you need them to get to brownlow night and more importantly to get the girl to take to Brownlow night
-
So much for time off, all our young blokes have been working on the guns

People forget that Jetta actually saved his career with his last game of the year, he showed something down back that changed peoples opinion of him and had the coaches, mainly Rawlings thinking he still could make it down back. Evans, Strauss, Blease and Tapscott showed nothing over the past 12 months. I would rather rookie other players than ones we have delisted this year.
-
Are we talking in Debt or Financial year losses? Every club would have a debt of some sort, 2mil for an organisation that size isn't a massive debt but if you are talking about 2mil loss from last financial year after the numbers they had is a worry
-
There is another delisted free agent period I think starts tomorrow until mid next week, wouldn't be surprised if we get someone.

The drafting age is right, the kids need to get into the system at that 18/19 age mark so they can be trained and educated. You allow them to do this outside the AFL system you might find a couple but you will have a lot more be completely underdeveloped.

A number of the boys look bigger, looks like most of them have been hitting the gym hard through the off season. Frost looks a beast -
He will be delisted at the end of 2015 season. Sam Blease wants to blame everyone but himself. I watched him and Gysberts train, would have been his third year, to me running behind our ruckman not just behind a mile off them was a disgrace. The two guys I feel for are Strauss and Tapscott, they just couldn't get their bodies right, they didn't get a chance due to there injuries and unfortunately you have limited time to earn your spot.

CHANGES 2014 - Retirements, Trades and Delistings
drdrake replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Really, we get Frost, Garlett, Harry O and Newton, 4 players that will most likely be in our round 1 team, plus we still get pick 2, 3 and Stretch . Frost and Newton are young, Garlett has 5 years left. To me we have the right balance, bring in players that will improve our side for 2015 plus get 3 all Australian U18 players and have no requirement for them to play if they are not ready. It is all about balance, we are recruiting for now and the future rather than a 5 year plan based around U18 kids. -
Like Jetta, when he played that back pocket he looked OK, we just moved him around or he got injured. As a rookie you know that Trengove will go straight on to the long term injury list so a guy like Tappy or even Liam Anthony from North could easy play round 1 if we rookie them.
-
We have one, you need 2-3 and that one will be attacked by his home clubs. The club has added Stretch, Pick 2, and pick 40 to add mids, that will be three mids and a key Forward. Balance you can't have all our forward hopes on one tall
-
Nothing to do with hindsight, we just plain and simple stuffed up those drafts and the post was more to highlight that there are always good midfielders in drafts but good talls are harder to find
-
It just highlights we stuffed up our picks but there are always good midfielders in drafts, but big good key talls are hard to get. If you have a chance to grab one you get him and we have a chance to grab one.
-
That is fairly narrow, we just picked up the wrong players. Every draft since 2007 we picked the wrong mids, plenty of them to pick from and there are a number of mids picked up through that period that are A grade midfielders that have been picked up after our first round picks. 2007 We could have Dangerfield, Roili, Ward, Ebert instead of Morton 2008 Shuey, Swift, Hannebery, Beams, Zaharakis instead of Blease and Strauss 2009 bit of a nothing draft but still Fyfe and Martin Imagine if we got it right and had Dangerfield, Hannebery, Shuey, Martin and Fyfe instead of Morton, Blease, Strauss, Scully and Trengove.
-
To me there are always good mids in any draft, it is about picking and developing the right ones. Big strong key forwards they are hard to find. Dawes is limited, Hogan at some stage will be offered big bucks from Freo or the Eagles, we have no depth in our tall forwards. We need to grab a mid and one of the tall forwards.
