Because you can only play one handed footy for so long at some stage you have to learn to put you head over the footy
-
As a young Victoria player would you rather debut at the MCG v Carlton or Collingwood with all your family and freinds there + 50,000+ people or in Darwin? Gysberts may not be in the team due to where we are playing.
-
There is nothing more certain then Morton and Jetta coming in this week and you can add Aussie to that list as well. Cheney will be close but I think with the pace of Ports forwards they might leave him out and keep Bartram in. In Morton, Jetta, Aussie Out Bruce(inj), Bennell, Rivers
-
I cant believe people are looking to drop Hughes, I thought his game on Saturday was equal to Watts and considering the ball delivery he did OK.
-
Just read the one of many news articles about Watts, he had to work his butt off on Saturday and was stuffed. The first thing that goes when you are stuffed is your speed. He would of wasted a lot of energy by running to spots when he didn't need to and will learn from this. It is important for him to play at this level for at least 10 games this year, would love to see him play every game but would be happy with 10.

The best thing about our crowd figures so far is we have played 3 home games against interstate clubs and our average home game attendance would be around 35,000. Besides this week the remainder of our home games are Collingwood 55-60K, Essendon 45-55K, Sydney 25-35K, Richmond 35-45K and North Melbourne 25-35K. The club would be wrapped with the turn out so far, imagine when we start winning more than we lose.

Don't look atthe forward line structure, we didn't get the ball in there enough and when we did the delivery was rubbish. Bailey and Co can't kick the footy for our players on Match day. I remember the first quarter Davey running through the middle had a clear run to the 50m arc should of had a shot but short passed to Green, turnover. Then again Watts had a clear break running back to goal we stuffed the kick a 30m kick that dropped onto the chest of Glass. Our footskills yesterday lost us the game we couldn't hit targets all day.

Depending on a few injuries I would make the following changes Out Bruce(inj), Bennell, Bartram In Morton, Aussie, Cheney If Bate is injured Millers form at Casey gets him a run. Unfortunately for Bennell you can only play one handed football for so long, all day yesterday he just stuck one hand out to get the footy it looks great when you get it but really bad when you don't and yesterday not many stuck. Bartram, I would love for this guy to have the skills but he doesn't, he has been around long enough and this side of his game lets him down. Looking forward he is limited. Cheney has been in good form at Casey, Aussie will play in Darwin and Morton is in our top 5 players 2 runs at Casey are enough for him.

If you are old enough have a nice Carlton Draft and relax. Our midfield was completely shut down today, this will happen, don't blame our forwards the ball never got there and our backs did a good job. Games like today will happen in 2010, enjoy the ride we have 10 years of really exciting footy coming.
-
What a game like today does is highlight that we have been the worse team in the AFL for the past 3 years. We will win between 6-9 games this year which is what we should expect. Games like today highlight areas we need to improve and the type of players required to move forward. Our ruck needs improvement that us why we have a 205+cm giant on our list. We all know that Bennell is a better defender then small forward, thats why we have Aussie and Maric. Don't lose faith we are have players on our list that given 12-24 months will make us a much better team. Watts, I thought was good today should enough to convimce me that he will be a star Losing sucks, but 2010 will be about taking the good with the very bad
-
Unfortunately the end in close, we still have a guy named Liam Jurrah to come into our forward line. Don't be supprised if Hawthorn are looking at Miller, they are in desperate need of Key Defenders.
-
We have to understand that we still lost last week and the week before. Playing finals this year would be a bonus but as the club has stated from the first day of pre season 2010 is about getting games into our young players and getting them to play together. With that in mind to we play Dunn or Watts, IMO the development of Watts is more important then playing Dunn. Watts is the player we need to get games into so he learns at AFL level. Nothing against Dunn he has been OK this year, but looking beyond 2010 Jack Watts is the player that we need to develope.
-
Don't know about our best 22, but would love to see for the last 6 games we line up as per below Strauss Warnock Frawley Grimes Rivers McDonald Morton Moloney Green Bate Watts Sylvia Aussie Jurrah Davey Jamar Scully Trengove McKenzie Bennell Jones Bruce Jetta Cheney Maric
-
Cale Morton's best role IMO will be a HFF/Wingman, he can run all day and has spent time in defense because he never had to man up in his life. When he returns expect him either continue down back, or better still add him to our midfield, in 12 months our forward line will be one of the most exciting in the AFL
-
I would throw up our first round pick for Boak he is better than what we would get considering the best 17yo have already been signed and the Gold Coast have most of the top 20 picks.
-
It was Rivers or Joel Mac, the club has backed Rivers. The only match up I see for Rivers is Grant. I'm sure the club has let Rivers know that he needs to get back to his best or find form at Casey.
-
I rate PJ and IMO he is one player that most posters have turned on. Maybe because we all wanted him to come in to be that power forward or to be a super star ruckman. The games I have seen him play he is an above average AFL ruckman that can play forward but looks better as a rooming ruckman. He is one player that I want to have a very big year, Spencer is a mile off, Gawn wont play until next year, Martin is a better defender we need PJ to be the supporting ruckman to Jamar that plays in attack a can kick 20 goals for the year. Hughes great effort and good luck
-
So you are agreeing with me, they are playing him further up the ground to get his work rate up, which is what you are saying get him fitter. Still I believe he needs to be playing his current role high HFF at AFL level with short stays in the goal square for at least 10 games this year and ideally it should be 15 games which means he needs to come in this week.
-
The reason why you play him on a wing and high half forward is to develope his work rate, it is the same reason why Morton has played in defense to work on his defensive skills he won't play there in the future as Morton is best suited to an attacking wing man.
-
Watts is not ready, rubbish, the only way we can get him fully ready is by playing him. He will learn more by playing at AFL level and will be a better player with the more games he plays. You take care of him, he doesn't play Full Forward put him on the HFF let him run around, I watch Stephen Hill play last year, his body wasn't ready for AFL footy, he got smashed in the first half of the year, then showed something in the back half. This year he is exciting to watch and has benefited from learning how to play by playing at AFL level. Hill is one example I'm sure there are many of players that are better player due to the experience they have gained by playing at that highest level.

If we play Rivers, Warnock, Garland, Frawley and Macdonald the dogs small forwards will kick a bag against us. One need to go Rivers has to be in the gun, Frawley, MacDonald and Garland can play tall and short. Bruce will get Brad Johnson, Warnock to Hall, Garland to Grant, Frawley to Higgins, Bartram to Aka, Grimes completes to back six. Our forwards, is it just me or is Bennell getting away with playing 1 good quarter of footy per week. Yesterday he wasn't sited for three quarters but once we got our run on in the 3rd he got into the game. Replace him with McKenzie, Martin is looking lost PJ needs 4-5 games to show us if he is worth keeping next year. As for Miller and Newton they will not be on our list in 2011 keep them at Casey. My team Bartram Warnock Frawley Grimes Garland Bruce Scully Moloney Trengove Sylvia Bate Watts Green PJ Davey Jamar Jones McDonald Cheney Dunn McKenzie MacDonald In Watts PJ McKenzie Cheney Out Rivers Bennell Martin Petterd We need to increase our options accross half forward, Watts is ready, he will learn more by playing at AFL level then he will playing for Casey. I don't cop the excuse his body isn't ready, a lot of players running around dont have the size yet but they are still learning at the highest level. We don't play him on Lake push him a high Half forward. 2010 is the year we get games into our young players and more importantly get them playing together, we have heard that all preseason and beside PJ my ins reflect the clubs objective.
-
With Petterd going down Bailey and Co need to decide whether to look to the future or the past. Watts might not be dominating the VFL but he is now match fit and should be included to play the dogs next week. He has had his 4-5 weeks at Casey it is time for him to start learning at AFL level. 2010 as we have heard so many times is about getting games into our young players and more importantly get them playing games together. We don't want to see Miller and Newton anymore they are the past, show us this kid, this is the kid that we need to fire.

Why does the North Melbourne football club own us?
drdrake replied to Bring-Back-Powell's topic in Melbourne Demons
Every team has owned us over the past 3 years we just always play North twice. The tide will turn nothing to be concered about we will beat then in round 22 and then win against them 8 in a row -
When you start to build a team that improves and you introduce better players, the average players start to look better. Does that mean that they are improving or are we now able to play them in roles that they are better suited to. Bartram as a shut down back pocket player is looking good, the role suits his ability. Dunn as a HFF he is better then Dunn as a midfield tagger. I can see Dunn playing a role like Max Rooke/Cambell Brown that defensive forward that can still kick goals and create. One think Dunn has shown is that he can kick goals when played as the 4th or 5th forward option. Have both these players got futures beyond 2010, Dunn yes, Bartram may depend on the development of Cheney, Strauss and Bennell, Bartram can quickly become the fourth option. Bennell will go back there when Aussie, Jetta, Blease and hopefully Maric are ready.
-
I can't understand why some people want to send Scully and Trengove to Casey, they are in our best 22 and unless their body's need a rest, which you would give them a week Off, or form drops they should play at AFL level.
