How and why did you become a Melbourne supporter?
felixdacat replied to Webber's topic in Melbourne Demons
Webber great thread stories like these are really great reading and more can be found at the thread below http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?/topic/31934-you-dont-have-to-be-a-lunatic-but-it-helps-apparently/?fromsearch=1 -
If a fan wants to criticise a player then they have every right to do so BUT in the same respect players have a right to reply and if you are going to criticize then expect to be challenged. Have no sympathy for both parties in this issue. Have an issue with someone drumming up support or the like for an argument that they start and are not happy with the outcome. Lacks character for mine.

Is Dermott Brereton the biggest flog on tv?

I just turn all the commentary down when watching Footy it is so much easier. -

Being competitive is the only thing we can do at this point, it is unrealistic to think that we should be winning, it is also premature we are putting the cart before the horse so to speak. Winning is a result of hard work, perseverance, skill and luck. Last season our team was introduced to one aspect of that the hard work the rest is still to come. Where the media, the public and the supporters think/want/expect us to be at this season will not deter MN, NC and DM and the rest of the Football Department at the MFC from going through and ticking off each progression as it happens. I laugh when I hear the experts in the Media say it would sound the Death Knell if we lose the first round because they think that our Club would implode on itself. The coach and the football department have been quite clear from the outset about the amount of work that needs to be done to get this club back to greatness. It has been 17 months since this journey has started I don't think I will place any high expectations on winning games on the team for at least another 17 months more. But that's just me.

I want to see us play competitively in the first round if we win then that's great but if we lose god its only Round 1 FFS, no use droppin our bundles because we lost the first of 22 games this season. Idiots in the Media want to turn football into Days of our Lives or Neighbours and build the drama into football. A lot of people will get sucked into it, but really last year our competitiveness improved each round and all I will be looking for is that to continue and be sustained for longer the W and L's will sort themselves out as we move through the season. AD seemed quite clear in relation to Melbourne what I got from it is; 1. Tanking is not punishible by the AFL rules 2. There was not enough evidence to charge MFC within the rule of the AFL 3. CC and DB both pleaded guilty and where punished for what they confessed 4. MFC was punished for employing these men. FWIW MS was confounded so much that he forgot how to ask a question, GH was getting upset because the above 4 points did not meet with his innate sense of justice in that MFC did bad and they must be punished. But as AD has said the AFL could not prove that MFC breached it rules. You can't find a club guilty of something that is not an offence no matter how you try.

I am just itching to see four quarters of Football played with the new look team, sick of Internet single cam replays quarter by quarter. Itchen to see the boys have a really good crack at another AFL team with premiership points on the line. I am excited by the chance to see some of our new recruits running around in the Red and Blue. Young players such as Toumpas, Viney and Barry Mature age rookies such as Terlich or Matt Jones, New veteran such as Byrnes, Rodan and Dawes. My expectations are low in regards to wins but excitement is high to see some real football.

no worries! -
Good luck Mitch i hope you come through the game no worse for wear. In relation to Mr Hur - Ben may not have an agenda but I know that he generates a hell of lot of discussion and debate on this forum and he also ensures that there's an alternative view. Regardless if you agree about that view he keeps the argument/discussion going. (and going and going)

You all crack me up! How is the kicking efficiency of Jack Grimes relevant to this whole topic. RPFC you started talking about players and who you would cut and Cowboy was asking all the Nay Sayers about Neeldy not being a good coach to offer an opinion about why? And who they would replace him with? But instead we have a bunch of posts banging on about our captain. I personally like what Neeldy has done thus far, and its a work in progress that will evolve into something grand. I would not go so far as to make ultimatums like I would pull membership if they sack him mid year but I would be writing to the club to express my utter disappointment if yuis did occur and move on. I know this topic is not aimed at me as i drum for the other side and i was not going to post anything but seriously you guys all need to calm down.

'Raising The Bar' ... 9 MFC players who must lift in 2013.
felixdacat replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
RR your right the 9 players you listed need to raise the Bar, along with all our team. But in reference to your nine I don't agree the nine players listed are "flying under the radar" -

I can put up with the occasional brain fade from Frawley, but can't stand it when he is kicking in, he just takes to long and opposition set up their press while he is making a decision on who to kick it too.He frustrates me and I spend most of my time yelling at the TV for him to hurry up. Watts and Dunn should be designated to kick in. Other then this aspect of his game I like his work and IMO I would prefer he take the second best forward and leave the best to T Mcdonald.

lol Zero Tolerance yeah because illicit drug use is such a straight forward issue. It is wrong and that all there is to it! If you do drugs then you are bad and you will be punished. Why don't we try prohibition cause that worked well in other places. I pay to support my club and I expect them to deal with the issue properly not bury it's head in the sand and say your now the community's problem. Is it the biggest problem for the AFL?, seems to me there is a lot of rumours going around but nothing concrete to say that its as huge an issue as you say. Seriously? IMO people that drink beer have more tendency to use crack! What gives anyone the right to tell someone what they can or can't do with their wages. The amount they earn is irrelevant and comparing your job with theirs is illogical and is like apples and oranges. How does the AFL policy reinforce the idea that drug users are victims? AFL players just have better work conditions and bully for them. AFL is not condoning illegal drug use it is recognising that if someone tests positive to illicit drugs it has to follow a process that is fair and equitable. You can show that someone has used it and you need to work with the player for them to address the situation, if they continue to use and test positive they will face the consequences. If a player is caught in possession of illicit drugs by the police they face the same law as everyone else. Drugs Laws treat users differently to suppliers, and possession amounts determine the penalties from 2 years to 25 years.

I could not agree more RPFC, It Is What It Is, I for one am glad to move on to Friday night and see how the boys fare. looking forward to see how Hogan and the other debutants play in the red and blue. Would have preferred no charges and to take the fight up to the AFL but its too late now, so you gotta move on. No use pulling your hair out over what might have been.

Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>
felixdacat replied to Jonesbag's topic in Melbourne Demons
Just to add a lighter side to this issue. When the ACC Report was released the other week the local paper the Townsville Bulletin had to get in on the story, unfortunately for the local Rugby League Team here in Townsville the NQ Cowboys were...well I will let the headline speak for itself. -
The only negotiated agreement from this would be both parties to walk away with no further action, the commission or the AFL should not be able to come up with a whole new charge as you can only be guilty of the breaching the rules laid out in their constitution. Making up a new charge will see them (the AFL) without a leg to stand on because MFC could have them over a barrel. i.e due process and natural justice The media will jump and down and say that the AFL should have done more i.e loss of draft picks or fines. But the AFL ,with all their investigation, can not and will not be able to prove that Melbourne tanked or that they brought the game into disrepute. It is said on here by some that everyone believes that we Tanked, we have got commentators all saying it was obvious we Tanked and therefore we should be punished. I would ask those people if it was so obvious that we tanked then how come after a 7 month investigation and an 800 page report we have not been charged with some form of tanking as per the AFL rules. If it was so blatant and inept form of tanking then obviously the smart ar$es that say this can prove unequivocally that it occurred. If so why don't they let the AFL in on the the secrets so they can charge us. On the offsiders both CW & GW both say that we tanked but provide no evidence other then "it is known" what are we Dothrakian. Journalist used to base their articles on facts (and verifiable fact at that) but now they have these opinions columns where they voice their opinion and people treat them as fact. It really give me the sh!ts because there is a really great saying that goes Opinions are like a$$holes every one has them, and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks. SO what's the point? Is the opinion of a journalist any more wiser than say a Taxi driver or some quiz champion down the pub. I reckon they would be on par.
