I stuck it out to the finish, as tough as it was. West Coast next week. Probably a win for the Dees and their last for the season.
-
To see a sponsor like Volvo stick with us for next year is a major plus for the club.
-
My votes: 6 Valenti 5 Whelan 4 McDonald 3 Bruce 2 Maric 1 Martin Comment on game: Very disappointing.
-
Should of heard the roar in the members and around the ground when we got our first score. A rushed behind.
-
A mental rest? OUT: White, Carroll, Wonaeamirri IN: Jamar, Bell, Davey I'd have Garland, but I don't expect him back so soon from injury.
-
He's been a good servant to the club. I thought he got thrown around alot tonight, Ottens traeted him with contempt. He is not strong enough through the upper body. He's asset was his leap. The circle has destroyed him. Time to go Jeff, sorry mate. If a club wants White... all the best.

Geelong is a proven side where they have had no early draft picks Ie 1,2,3,4,5. Yet they have managed to drill skills into them and develop their team into something great. ANd by selecting draft picks, "in hindsight" quite well indeed. Alot of their rise - whilst credit will be given to the likes of Thompson, Hinkley, Tudor & Co, alot of it was player driven too. Striving each other to get better, by being honest amongst themselves. This takes leadership. A bloke who wasn't out their tonight, Paul Chapman. You might remember, back after Round 3 or 4 or 5 last year was their turning point. When Chapman spoke to the group after a game and told them a few 'home truths'. We need players to make decisions and say, 'enough is enough'. That is why I think Brock McLean will be our leader. IMO he has that same quality in him, so too Jones. Bruce I don't think does. You will be excited next year.

I'd agree with that. But we do forget quickly. Brisbane were awesome at full strength '01-'03. I was optimistic all week, until I saw the teams run out tonight. (It was the heart). Geelong just looked so much bigger in their bodies. Exactly my thoughts driving home. And Garland. Warnock disappointed me early tonight, but looked better later in the game.

And also with the Olympics starting that would of kept alot home for the Opening Ceremony. 08-08-2008.

Well time to go POSTAL. Because he needs better endurance. He's 22years old FFS. He's still finding his feet and he hasnt matured yet. I can't believe how many want to trade him. How on earth are you meant to dominate in a game against Geelong at Full Strength. You can't against the likes of Scarlett, Harley, Taylor, Mackie, Hunt. Sylvia was far from the worst and most underperformed and he wasn't the best. FFS, we got smashed all over the park tonight! - By the Premiers mind you! I kept a close eye on him, IMO he tackles hard, he does chase, he shows endeavour, and when he presented the ball was heading this way, that way - hell, even for Port Phillip Bay! The delivery was poor, there was no delivery to the forwards, the ball was held up with handballs, transfers from left to right, back to left, back to centre. ANd more often than not when the boys did this, sure enough it was turned over by skill errors and pressure from Geelong. IMO - He'll prove you wrong. Ditto. Not one of the best, certainly not in the worst.

Bucks, not the greatest of games but there were many others, when he tries to break, our boys don't work off the ball for him and shepherd. The Geelong players do in spades. Look at Selwood and others like Kelly and Bartel, they shepherd and give their teammate space to run into. Our boys don't work as hard off the ball to create. Totally agree. Clumsy & indecisive. Evertime he kicks or handballs the ball he "telegraphs" it and the opposition know what he is going to do, then they close it down when the possession is in transit. What happens then? Turnover. Goal. I agree deanox. Every one. A couple of additions: - Bartram - tries his best Bate - not a KPP (yep) Bruce - did a good job on stevie johnson Buckley - must improve reflexes Carroll - clumsy awkward & indecisive Dunn - doesnt work both-ways - (yep - good defensively) Frawley - mistakes, promising glimpses Green - no direct opponent (no right foot) C.Johnson - down on output P.Johnson - invisible at stoppages Jones - needs better disposal (or 'needs a hand') McDonald - age wearies him (blue collar worker) Maric - showed footy smarts Martin - strong in the air Morton - improved disposal Sylvia - needs a preseason (Definitely) - IMO he should of been put on Ablett - so G.Ablett would teach him a thing or too. Warnock - backup defender only Wheatley - long kicks nowhere Whelan - typical wheelan game White - games gone by (not accountable - yet still - only worries about his opponent) Valenti - bled red n blue (Is it me, or was he the one who showed the most strength out there for Mfc?) Wonaeamirri - injured by halftime (all at sea) Bruce kept S.Johnson very quiet, but it didnt worry the Cats who kept the Dees scoreless in 1st quarter. White back to Sandy. Make that two.

Don't worry Pringle. I have been to 7 matches this season. Not one of them a win. ANd yes, I have been to the same 3 as you. If I can put your mind to rest, two things: - 1/ Our boys didn't play well at all. Very average indeed. 2/ Geelong are the real deal, and should be the mould and benchmark the mfc should aspire to be. The difference? 116points. <_<

I thought Graham Gaunt was referring to earlier reports on 'Ology", I don't think it was his 'assertion' as you put it mo.

What is the MFC doing to promote the 150th Anniversary Game?

And the AFL's leader(s) are over in Beijing for the Olympics at present................they won't be there tonight... -
I prefer Sylvia to stay. But I want some improvement on his endurance. And I want it this summer. Like Gerard Healy's article in today's paper, he needs to excel now that he's in his 5th year, 6th year next season. He needs to be put through the ringer over summer and push himself - "gut busting" and "run until you spew" IMO, DB should put Sylvia on Ablett tonight, throw him a challenge. Let him learn what is required of him.

Thanks Bazza. Suzanna your down that way aren't you? You interested? Can't wait for the reports on MacNamara, Grimes and Petterd against Geelong. Looking forward to tonights game at the G under lights on a Friday. They'll all be switched on and give a good account of themselves.

My blood stirs when I read comments like these. Its pure emotion. Red & Blue emotion. What made my blood boil, on KB's show this morning on SEN was KB's questionning and lack of understanding of Barrassi doing a "back flip", that he'd rather see the MFC die than relocate. KB's opinion was that Barrassi has got it all wrong. Many Melbourne supporters rang up in support of Barrassi's view. Which warmed my heart. You see, what Barrasi wants is Melbournefc to survive, not die. Survive at all costs - as our club, MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB is the original club of the AFL and he feels it is extremely imprortant for the AFL to keep that tradition and history, it is paramount in his view for the Mfc to remain it's own entity in the City Of Melbourne. So, relocation is not an option. KB missed the importance and overall picture of Barassi's view. If there was a relocation this club's spirit and foundations and history so rich in tradition would erode. It's vital for the club and its members and supporters and more importantly for the AFL, that it survives.. FULL STOP. And I totally agree with Barrass. Go Dees! For he is Melbourne through and through.

JL and mickrocks1 your on the ball about Mark Stevens. I like positive stories such as these. Things like Brock and Isaac Weetra making themselves available for the Ballarat Demons function go unnoticed by fans in general. I'd like to see Mark Robinson write a positive story about the Melbourne Football Club one day... <_< Well done to Brock McLean on donating the $10,000. He doesn't want to make a big fuss about it, as Jim has told the media. Good on him. He wants the club to survive as we all do. Great initiative and leadership will no doubt see him as Captain one day soon.

Where is everyone sitting tomorrow night...

We'll be cheering for you! -
TY Robbie flower! That's one thing I don't want to sound like by the sounds of it.................Fortunately the registration has been down for sometime over there which will prevent me from squabbling...Sorry you had to read that crap...back to the footy.

Let's hope your still happy after the game...

That's debatable Rogue, you think Jamar is the Number 1 ruckman now? Is that based on last weeks game or on Hit Outs?

Ok you got me in relation to this mornings topic "Bugger the Filth" and yes I probably should of edited and included it. I will put my hand up for that. With regards to Post #29. Post #29 was in reply to RR. Post #28 was a list of the National Draft (information for the reader). Is that so much "poor form?" I deleted "And he can talk" and replaced it with "What?" Because why is it such a concern? As RR often responds anyway. Even though I understand his p/day comparison. (which mind you, does not mean a thing) . ...Ie. I'm sure it would vary from day to day, week to week, etc - I mean who really cares?
